He quit on us, so he can join that prestigious club of people never coming to my kitchen, but I'm not buying that this is because SU, in its current state, is some flawed job. Some lucky AD is about to land a great opportunity that he never thought would be available this soon.

What a fraud, joke, coward, poser, and weak minded doushe. Seriously Mark. Family reasons? We are supposed to buy that when you come out on your Minny presser and talk abour "opportunity "? You arent Cuse material. It takes some balls, intelligence, and a personality to be the AD at Cuse. Go to the Midwest where just a pulse and a necktie will get you loved. The same fans as St. Louis Cardinal fans that pamper and coddle their players and cheer them outta 0-20 slumps. You belong in Softville, USA. Congrats.

In this day and age, there is no way to handle it well. There's an old cliche, "its not personal, it's business". A lot of folks on this board take everything so personal. He took a job, and stayed for almost a year. Decided he could do better. For whatever reason, pay, hated the area, hated the people he was working with etc. I dont get why this board gets so emotional about people leaving for what they perceive to be greener pastures.

I guarantee you EVERYONE in this board would leave their current job for a competitor if they got a 20% plus raise. Every single one.

I turned down much more than a lousy 20% to keep my word and commitment. And I did more than once. I valued my word more than that. In the long run it paid me back in spades. It is not easy to have the character of your convictions, but in the end you have to live with yourself.

What a bunch of overwrought wailing and gnashing.

The only thing of any material consequence is not having the ACC meeting covered.

Other than that it's all meaningless. No notice or two weeks notice, it doesn't freaking manner. It's the end of the year, there isn't anything going on that needs immediate attention.

-if he got an opportunity that was a better fit for him, far be it for me to tell him to pass on it. more money too.
-they way he left, left a lot to be desired. pretty weasel-y looking.
-he's an AD. qui gives a . there are plenty of people to hire and we have plenty of money to spend. this isn't a G5 losing staff to a P5.
-I don't think Syracuse comes out of this looking bad, coyle looks like the douche. he screwed over a university, a worthy fanbase, a worthy community, and loyal employees that moved here with him.

I look up from my phone to see Coyle standing down the way talking to another dad as their son's were practicing baseball. I thought it odd that he was not personally attending one of those lax games and found it even more odd that he seemed to not even care about what was happening because he wasn't following either at all. I almost wanted to go up to him to let him know how the teams were doing and update him on the rain delay in the men's game. Weird then, makes more sense now.

I agree. Outside of the considerable egg on our face, the actual staff and whole AD being caught off guard, overshadowing a Syracuse legends retirement, pissing off a HoF basketball coach, and making our new football coach feel like a turd - the ACC meeting was the "only thing."

EDIT: I forgot all the time and money invested in the search that brought him here, all of the changes he made that will be at the very least evaluated by the next AD, and the fact the University is about to announce a major upgrade to the premier athletic inside venue on a collage campus without an AD.

My understanding the concrete and steel contracts have been awarded for the dome reconstruction. Pete Sala is in charge of the project so I don't think it slows it down at all.

Good summary. Things happen for a reason.

#1. However, $850,000 > $330,000 (CuseOnly says Coyle was making $575k for a $275k increase - still that is $23k more per month and $1.4 million over 5 years). That's an easy decision for Coyle especially if he worked at Minny before and knows many of the people there. I fully expect he will make better $$$ offers and take his people from here to Minny.

#2. Chancellor realizes a P5 AD worth his salt needs to be paid more than $330k (if $575k then that's competitive). AND thumbs down for Pete Sala (I know and like him) - he is a behind the scenes guy already making good money and doing what he's comfortable with. Being an AD is outside of his comfort zone.

#3. If my info is correct on Babers and he's making $2.4 million plus incentives with a 6 year contract, we are very competitive on that front. No worries here.

#4. Most important. The new AD needs more freedom to make changes, especially staffing changes. I think Coyle couldn't hire positions of need and especially was told he had to keep some deadweight for political reasons and you cannot tie a new AD hands like that. Moving Hicks versus removing Hicks is a perfect example. To fix, SUAD needs a cleansing from top to bottom.

Time to move on and let's hope the Chancellor fixes this soon with another home run with an even better hire than Coyle.

You do know he was bought out and booted out of Hawaii right?

Well, if the latter is the case, we need to nuke all the threads complaining about how long it takes and who/how we schedule our games. Most schools have games scheduled 3,4,5 years out and we don't even have a solidified schedule for 2017 yet.

What egg? Nobody who was involved in the hire had reason to believe that the Minnesota job would open up two months later.

The process resulted in bringing in a guy that at least one other school was willing to pay a large premium for. It also resulted in a decisive decision for the football program, which was one of the areas he was brought in to address.

Everything you listed is PR and hurt feelings, BFD, forgotten in a week.

Coyle was making $575K here, so he got a raise of $275K to go to MN.

Babers is making $2.4 mil a year, some say $2.5 mil.

Agree 100% and we have just hired a brand new football coach who anyone in there right mind will give a ample years to right the ship. I don't get to caught up in the AD spot, who cares really. Babers and Co will take the field versus Colgate regardless of who the AD is.

Chancellor isn't going to hire some buffon. In my book, some talking head, politician type dude just took a new job for more money and tries to justify it by putting lipstick on a pig, don't care and not buying it, just move on..

I honestly don't want to hear from or see the AD, just do your job. Understanding they will be at sporting events and fundraising but they don't need the limelight.

I think your right big picture. But there's no arguing that short term it hurts the perception of the school and is disruptive in terms of progress with a competent athletic dept that needs desperately to string together a bunch of years of competency.
