Dammit, now the Doyel's and other online media are calling for JB's head

calling Davis a liar is one thing, JB's comments later on to the effect that he's just a basketball coach and he wasn't involved in earlier investigation and only vaguely knew about the details of the accusation - the it wasn't my problem attitude - are more troubling to me. BF worked for you and was one of your closest friends. He's the 2nd guy behind you and apparently was taking young, unsupervised ballboys on away trips that you couldn't have missed, an investigation into abusing boys happens, and you don't care to learn more about it and be involved? What

I think JB was just trying to get the media off the topic when he said he wasn't involved in the previous investigation. That troubles me not one bit. If he said he was involved in the previous investigation, what would have happened? He would have been grilled on it for hours by the media. If you say you have no info, there's no where for the media to go with and so they move on to the next topic.

Also, CTO had commented days ago that it was SOP for coaches with small kids to fly babysitter with them, so it wouldn't have been unusual or noteworthy since he was there as a babysitter.

I do think that most people won't both to sort through details, so that's why SU needs to stand by JB publicly, today (assuming his statement is what we expect). Otherwise the witch hunters will have their scalp by the end of the week.

JB can defend and should defend Bernie. But he shouldn't attack the accusers. That is what will be an issue. I think that there has to be some sort of punishment. How harsh could depend on public pressure. If we punished him before the tape, I don't think there would be an issue. SU missed out on that one.

Wow. KO, I disagree so much with your take on this. Boeheim is guilty of being a shoot-from-the-hip knucklehead. Nothing more. Punishment? Maybe before Gorby tore down that wall

If they respond to public pressure, they may as well fire him immediately, because that's where it will end. Imus taught me one thing - you cannot placate a lynch mob - either SU defends JB 100% or not at all. No half measures, because doing so means you'll get bullied into firing him anyway.

If a woman in sales said she was sexually harassed by a SR executive and the company's CEO said she is nothing but a lying whore, do you think that CEO would not be fired? JB is a representative of the university and is held to a higher standard than us fans. I don't think he should be fired. And am fine with him not being punished. But public pressure will want blood for his actions. SU chose not to distance itself from JB's statement before the tape. Huge mistake. Now they will overreact to show that they do not condone his statements. The question is how large will that overreaction be?

If the BOD thought the company's revenue would actually DECLINE if they fired the CEO , they would not even after calling that sales chick a fat slut

If a woman in sales said she was sexually harassed...
So you think Boeheim would have said the same thing if this was a brand new accuser, first one first time Fine was accused of anything, coming out of the blue? Come on.

He shouldn't have said anything. He is the face of SU and people will associate his words with SU's stance.

JB is more than ok in this (its so difficult to not type...JB is fine, but i digress)

all he has to do is clarify his remarks.

he said hes known and been friends with bernie for 50 years. so he should then say, and ive know him to gay/bisexual the whole time. at no time did i ever consider him to be a molester nor did i have reason to. just because someone is gay, doesnt make them a molester. at no time did i ever see the ballboys in his room, that is a flat out lie by the accusers. they were trying to drag me into something and i wouldnt stand for it. it seemed like a $$ run, after all this is right after penn state and is the 3rd time this kid tried to do something, the 1st 2 were for $$. i stand behind that and i stand behind my statements.

granted, im no lawyer...but i dont see anything that JB did wrong.

well, I'm no lawyer either but calling a potential victim a liar doesn't seem like the way to go.

What pisses me the off about the media holier-than-thou's calling for Boeheim's head are those like Doyle saying stuff like Boeheim tried to "intimidate potential sex-abuse victims into silence." Complete and utter bullsh#t.

Anyone who thinks it was Boeheim's intent to "intimidate" legitimate victims into not coming forward is a moron.

Really makes JB look pretty stupid then if that's the case. I'm guessing JB doesn't like to look stupid but now he's going to have to defend his stupidity.

This angle on the friendship really pisses me off. People might think they know their best friends, but that is not always the case. One of my best friends in the entire world surprised the crap out of me about a year ago. He was always known as the nicest, most honest person you would ever come across. He grew up through some very difficult and tragic family situations as a kid. People used to give him the shirt off their backs. Let's just say that I found out about his darker side about a year ago and was completely floored. I have known him for 27 years and never saw that part of his personality. I felt the same way JB felt that day he came out and spoke about Bernie, total disbelief, a punch in the gut, confused, you name it. I couldn't process it. I couldn't believe it. I thought I really knew who he was. I didn't believe it. Didn't want to believe it. Granted we haven't lived near each other for over 15 years, but we always kept in contact.

It may be a really small hill of beans compared to the Fine scandal, but it goes to show you that you may never really know the people you think you are closest to. You do not know what goes on behind closed doors. Passing judgement from a distance is really simple when you jump to conclusions. Clearer heads MUST prevail here or we are lost as a society.

I'm a lawyer -- at least that's my day job -- and I agree that calling someone a liar isn't the way to go. But I also think that suggestions that JB should be fired over a poor choice of words is another example of what's wrong with our world. To seriously suggest someone who has given so much to the University and the community should be let go over a poor choice of words in defense of a friend is in my opinion misguided and ignores the context in which they were uttered.

Based on what we know now, JB did not cover up a thing and did not look the other way while the alleged abuse was going on. Show me he did, and my opinion changes. For now, it appears to me to be a bit over the top to suggest canning JB when the investigation is not complete, there have been no arrests, and prior looks into the allegations led to nothing.

Mind you this opinion comes from someone who has spent most of their career putting people in jail. I have zero tolerance for abuse or for those who cover it up. But the rush to judgment and the jumping to conclusions by this board is staggering. The real problem, and I speak from experience, is that the difference between what law enforcement knows and what we know is staggering. Maybe we would all be better serve to step away from the keyboard for a little while. (I include myself in this advice although I know I won't follow it -- LOL)

Great post.

If he says something like this, he also needs to add that he is aware of all of the details from the 2005 investigation, and that his remarks last week reflected his complete, unshakable belief based upon that info that Bernie was innocent.

And now that new information has emerged that wasn't available before, his position has changed.

exactly.

Was a good run for JB... tough way to go out. He pushed all in with a 2-9 hand.
