Darrell Gill Jr. in the portal

Well if he’s nervous about angelis return despite being able to see and talk to him, I can’t imagine any receiver of consequence is going to feel any differently
It’s very likely that Angeli doesn’t even know when he’ll be ready. It might not be until summer. So — and I’m just guessing.— he may want to go with a situation that’s a bit more certain, particularly if he’s going to make more money.

I am confused but just looking at Wake.

#1 barnes is in the portal
#2 is still there
#3 Sr
#4 portal
3 more portal

then at Auburn
#1 portal
#3 portal
#4 portal
Not the surprising when you lose a coach

Edit- sorry forgot clawson left in 24

But isn’t that going to be every portal receiver? If the internal guys don’t trust the QB room, why would external players?

Gill was our #1 by default last year, but it reality was really a 3-4 in results. If he can get #1 money someplace then thats good for him. He needs to be bigger to beat press coverage, and we showed last year when the offense is working we can feed 3-4-5 guys which was more than anyteam in the country.
Think this is the reality. He should get paid if he can. I’d be surprised if he makes it to the NFL so he should take advantage while he can.

Imagine after a historically bad year you went to your boss at the end of the year and asked for a raise. You'd be told good luck out there. That's what's happening right now.

As a leader or a Coach you can't reward poor performance and newsflash Gil and Willis and all the other guys that portaled did not perform this year, actually they performed historically bad offensively. It's even worse for guys like them that were veterans on the team. They should be pushed out in my opinion.

People want to say look Fran sucks cuz players aren't bought in and the talent is leaving and then if he retains a guy they'll be like see Fran sucks he's wasting NIL on guys that stunk so bad this year.

Too many armchair Quarterbacks here lately that have no clue. Personally as a fan I can't stomach a single $ more spent in NIL for anyone on the roster not named, Steve Angeli, Antoine Deslauries or Demetris Samuel.

I don’t think he was always open, but when you watch back certain games, especially with Ricky, there were plenty of times where where gill was WIDE OPEN and Rickie never even looked his way
Sure. But not all of those were supposed to be looking his way and we don't even know that part to tell. Almost every time a play breaks down and the QB starts to move someone is open.

Nah he will not always be part of our Orange family. Transfers never are.

Also, look at Pena and how that worked out for him.

Grass isn’t always greener. But I do wonder how much Angeli being hurt this year and the awful last two months of the season played a factor.
Agreed, transfers within their 4 years of eligibility lose the right to be considered part of the family. The exception would be a kid like Derek McDonald who gave 5 years and is now in search of a grad degree and some cash. I totally understand his decision and likely the coaches to encourage him to move on.

The issue is that our "plan" was to develop young men of character/skill, supplementing with the portal along the way. The reality is that the most talented young men of character/skill can get more money elsewhere. Fran was able to sell a bunch into coming for Year 1 and all but 3-4 into staying for Year 2.

But the way Fran mismanaged the 2025 season--from leaving points off the board, obviously fake injuries, UConn P.R. stunt backlash, mishandling the QBs/QB room post-Angeli, screwing up the end of the first half against Pitt, not being able to force the offense to adapt to something to keep us competitive, the Notre Dame debacle, and losing to 1-10 B.C... not sure anyone can wonder why some kids in the locker room began to doubt Fran's ability to work wonders. Look at the game threads between Pitt and BC. How many of us went from extend Fran to "yikes" in 2 months. How many kids have family members watching the same train wreck, only with the family/financial concerns?

This is why you cannot ever, ever, ever in college sports where there are no draft picks... tank games. Giving Filardi meaningful PT = acceptable. Starting Filardi in 3 games... unacceptable. We were embarrassed twice on national TV... UNC and ND. Fortunately, few were watching the third game embarrassment against 1-10 BC.

For comparison... Greg Robinson was 3-0 against teams with 2 or 1 wins. Other than 2020, the last time Syracuse lost to a 2-win team was 2004... Coach P's final season where we lost to 2-9 Temple. He was fired after the season (in a stupid way, of course). Coach P also did it to Rutgers in 1999. That was the beginning of the end for him as it gave life to Rutgers. At least those games were on the road. Dick Mac never lost to a 1-2 win team. Frank Maloney did it twice though... one was at home. Another coach that was fired.

Get real dude. How long you been waiting to break out this tirade? A GRob stat on going 3-0 against 2 and 1 win teams.

He's cleaning house with players and staff because we were embarrassed. Unacceptable is paying and keeping players and staff that were embarrassed for next year.

There are maybe 3-4 starters that should be retained on this team.

I'd say it would make alot more sense to bash the coach after he decided to keep a player or coach from the embarrassing team this year not when he decides to push one out.

Did you look any of this up? Wake and auburn both lost their top guys to the NFL, Michigan state and NC state also kept their top guys.
Cam Coleman is entering the transfer portal. NC State’s leading wide receiver is hitting the portal. Georgia Tech lost their best wide receiver to the transfer portal last year, and Colorado lost theirs this year. Michigan State’s WR1 is also entering the portal, and Chris Barnes, Wake Forest’s best wide receiver, has entered the portal as well.So yes — multiple Power 4 programs lose their WR1 to the transfer portal every single year. This isn’t rare or surprising anymore; it’s the new normal in college football.
To give you names
Cam Coleman - Auburn
Nick Marsh - Michigan state
Omarion Miller - Colorado
Terrell Anderson - NC State
Jayce brown - Kansas State
Chris Barnes - Wake Forest
And Eric Singleton Jr from last year with GT

He might be more worried about a lack of QB2. It’s clearly a valid concern.

Difference is those teams you mention also haven’t been good for years. G tech is on and off but mostly bad
