Darrell Gill Jr. in the portal

I think the reason people are frustrated is a school like Syracuse can’t lose its best players every off season and have really good seasons. If you get them good and then leave your just a feeder school and we can’t let that part happen.
Well we need to be apart of the next realignment coming in 2030.

Dude it seems like you may want to go root for another team. Only negative. If Fran left we would loose 95% of the team. These kids say they come for Fran.
Players leave for the money. They also come for the money and Fran. Let’s see who we get in the portal.
I agree but I think some kids may be leaving because they saw their coach quit on the season. Give Fran his credit for 10-3, recruiting wins, swagger, sayings etc ...but he quit this year and that stink takes a lot of wins to wash off.

Pitt has been average at best there not a top ACC school every year.
I don’t know what to tell y’all at this point. First, y’all said this doesn’t happen to other schools. When I named schools, the goalposts moved and suddenly they “weren’t good teams.” Then I brought up two solid programs, and now the argument is that they’re just “average.”

Cam Coleman is entering the transfer portal. NC State’s leading wide receiver is hitting the portal. Georgia Tech lost their best wide receiver to the transfer portal last year, and Colorado lost theirs this year. Michigan State’s WR1 is also entering the portal, and Chris Barnes, Wake Forest’s best wide receiver, has entered the portal as well.So yes — multiple Power 4 programs lose their WR1 to the transfer portal every single year. This isn’t rare or surprising anymore; it’s the new normal in college football.
To give you names
Cam Coleman - Auburn
Nick Marsh - Michigan state
Omarion Miller - Colorado
Terrell Anderson - NC State
Jayce brown - Kansas State
Chris Barnes - Wake Forest
And Eric Singleton Jr from last year with GT
I may have misunderstood, I thought meant last year meaning leading into the 2025 season

This is what I am trying to say. Credit goes up for 10-3. Credit goes down for 3-9. Now Fran has a pivotal year in 2026. A good season = extension. A bad season might mean no extension and a tough decision for 2027 onward. It is what it is.

To be 13-12, it might have been better to go 5-7 and 8-5... that looks like momentum. Either way, though, 2026 is a pivotal year for Fran.

People please. He is pushing these players out. He's telling them behind Door #1 is less NIL money and behind Door #2 is less playing time. After a historically bad offensive season there is no Door #3 with a prize of more NIL and playing time. This isn't some conspiracy.

How many pressers do we have to listen to Fran say he is honest and upfront with these guys telling them what their options are and what's best for Fran and The S is not what's best for them. The player meetings are clearly happening.

Man, I hope this is true.

Think this is the reality. He should get paid if he can. I’d be surprised if he makes it to the NFL so he should take advantage while he can.
I tend to think Gills departure is likely a reflection about what Fran stands to spend in portal vs pay g returning players…hate to lose our guys but this likely a net positive for us

Nah he will not always be part of our Orange family. Transfers never are.

Also, look at Pena and how that worked out for him.

Grass isn’t always greener. But I do wonder how much Angeli being hurt this year and the awful last two months of the season played a factor.
if he graduated in 3 years you are off on your take

At the end of the day Cuse is a program that needs to prioritize QB, O-line and D-line with its NIL, Pena was replaced (with a healthy Angeli of course) Gill will be replaced as well

And prioritize a good OC. A good OC/QB/OL will be successful enough. Everything else is defense. I still think we have a winner in Nixon.

These takes on the NFL are weird. Yes the game takes forever and I completely get that. But compared to college, if a player I like gets drafted by an NFL team, that player will be on the team for at least the next 4-6 years. Unless they underperform completely and then you wouldn’t care anyway. The NFL has it right, they want players to stay with their teams as long as possible. You can buy a players jersey for an NFL team and know that jersey will be relevant for years.

In CFB. I stopped caring about any of these players. It used to be fun to get a McNabb or jones brother and watch them develop over 4 years. Now, the chances of seeing that player develop at all on year team is a crap shoot. So I’m no longer vested in CFB the way I used to be. It sucks, it used to be exciting to see a player come out of H.S. then see how they develop. College game is ruined, as most of you know.

I wish him well, but generally don't feel that way about guys who transfer out. Even a guy like Duce who transferred back, I never felt the same connection to him afterwards.
Agree. I don't blame Darrell. Playing WR this past season had to have been as much fun as colonoscopy prep. But at the same time, I don't have the same feeling about guys who transfer out either, Unless, as someone mentioned earlier a situation like Derek McDonald, who graduated and is looking for a good opportunity to use his grad year, if he gets one.

Gill is solid but let’s not overreact here. Part of our love for him is the fact he’s spent his whole career with us. He is not on a single draft board for his class, he is more than replaceable

He's been occasionally very good to great. Not consistently. Although you can pretty much throw out a bunch of games this season. He's had 3 monster games in his career (Colgate this year, UConn and bowl game last year).

I think he's good, not great. But I don't know if we'll find anything as good as him as a replacement, that's the fear. I'd rather have kept him, but there's a lot we don't know.

I feel differently about a guy like Enrique Cruz who transferred out as an Upper Classman to get a chance to start. He clearly bled Orange and wanted to get on the field. That is far different than someone in Gill's situation, someone who was supposed to be a senior leader. Do people feel like Trebor Pena is "Orange"? I feel mixed at best about him and don't feel that connection like I do with a guy like Dungey who was there through it all. When a guy like Dungey or even Steve Ish comes back to visit and is on the Jumbotron, people will go crazy. I don't think people will feel that way about a guy like Trebor Pena (or Gill if he doesn't return), who by all accounts was a good kid, but bolted as soon as he had his first good year.
