Darrell Gill Jr. in the portal

Can’t wait for the spin.

Fran talks a big game. This one and Willis make very little sense on the surface, especially if we are devoting the full max to revenue sharing.
It’s more than max revenue and honestly do you want gill or Russel?

I realize I am biased, but think he's making a big mistake. For a guy like Willis, I can see where it would make sense. But Gill? He would be the unquestioned #1 WR here in an offense that has proven it will throw for a ton of yards with a decent QB. I wish him the best, but think he'll regret it.
I think he is a good receiver but this seems like a Pena situation. Let’s see his numbers next year.

Dude we get it but it does not matter anymore how good or bad you are if there is more money to be made elsewhere, they will go…and why not??? Even if the end they get duped and don’t make it. Culture don’t matter, money does…some people will make good decisions and others will really regret their decisions wether it be less money or the lack of opportunity to play or get a degree. Fran would have crushed it pre NIL when money was not a factor (at least by the rules). Now it is pay for play, and only the wealthiest will prevail. And that means only a select few realistically….just follow the money.
Amen and spot on. Hopefully that exercise in reality and common sense will shut up the repetitive boring douchnoggle he’s become.

After all of the dust settles, I will get all of the details. I have texted with his mom tonight, but I will call her after he announces where he is going, and if there is anything of real concern, I will try to report back if it is not confidential. I just think, Sr. year, and he wants a better opportunity to show his skills. I think it is more that, than the NIL money. As far as I am concerned, He will always be part of our orange.

Nah he will not always be part of our Orange family. Transfers never are.

Also, look at Pena and how that worked out for him.

Grass isn’t always greener. But I do wonder how much Angeli being hurt this year and the awful last two months of the season played a factor.

Just understand, if some don’t, that we’re going to need at least 15 impact players in the portal. More than half of them will need to be starters. It may not seem like it, but this is close to a total rebuild. I’m assuming Fran knows he’s got a lot of work ahead of him.

Dude it seems like you may want to go root for another team. Only negative. If Fran left we would loose 95% of the team. These kids say they come for Fran.
Players leave for the money. They also come for the money and Fran. Let’s see who we get in the portal.
Been here for 28 years not going anywhere. You may not like my opinions and that’s perfectly ok I don’t take it personally but I’m not going to root for another team, sorry to disappoint. I do casually root for Oregon as my wife graduated from there and we lived in Eugene for a few years and one of my daughters is a junior there currently. My family is very diehard u of o so I do have that going for me

15 true impact players will cost you 20 mil? No? Just a guess

Honestly as much as this hurts I don’t blame any receiver that wants to transfer. A *lot* of good routes and open lanes weren’t ever seen let alone targeted. When you work hard and see a whole year’s worth of effort down the drain like that, sometimes you just need a fresh start.

Tyshawn Russell played for us last season before his injury, and he and Cook return as experienced contributors. Younger guys like Darien Williams and Gabe Daniels also logged plenty of snaps and reps last year. The sky isn’t falling, but it’s definitely raining after this loss.

The more question areas a team has heading into a new season, the fewer games they will win. Continuity matters, even in the portal era. Otherwise you use your whole summer camp teaching the basics to an entire new team. You pay a price for that.

Man it's just so tough to keep up with roster changes anymore

I felt that way about the NFL 10-15 years ago and just lost interest.

I don't have time on the weekend to watch 3 games on Sunday, then Sunday night, Monday night and Thursday night.

And 20-25 of the 50 man roster are new every year.

When it's 2 hours like basketball or soccer, sure, I'll binge, and watch highlights. That's why NBA and soccer are winning - manageable time to watch a game, high level of performance, great competition.

But at 3.5 to 4 hours, 6 times a week like the NFL requires of you to stay informed, I mean, I have a life. I have other interests. I don't have a gambling addiction. And who are half of these guys anyway? Am I right?

Gill put in the time to be forever orange, when you consider that in 2 of his 3 seasons he played part of the season without a viable QB.

The bigger bummer here is that he would have been a senior and a leader.

Iowa State only has 16 players on its 2026 roster right now, because it’s all defections with no returns… can’t imagine what their board is like.
I’m not positive the state of Iowa even gets the internet yet.

Despite the pay increase I hope he can match his situation being clear WR1 for Angeli in Nixon’s O

Rebuilding your roster yearly is the new norm in the NIL era and established upperclass starters are going to hard to keep because of $$$....kids have agents who are telling them their value and if their current can't afford them they find a school that will...

Not sure what trips looked like for his family to see him play but I'm sure he has a ton of viable options that are easier trips than would be the case vs traveling to and from Syracuse. If he ends up at UT, ATM, TT, OU, etc I think the story will tell itself.

I'm sure you're as bummed out, or moreso, as I am. Great kid, huge potential, and one of my personal favorites. Kind of hoping (probably against conventional wisdom) that we at least get a chance to match, or beat, whatever offers he receives in the portal. Maybe we'll have a known entity at QB outside of Angeli by then.

Outside of gambling/fantasy football the NFL is tough to follow. 4 hour commitment with 2.5 hours of which are commercials is tough. I can watch 2 epl matches with only 30 mins of commercials in that same time.

I don't know that you and I are target nfl demographic though. If you don't scroll social media the whole game or simply have it as background noise during a gathering it's a tough product to watch.

Pena outkicked his coverage, Gill's athletic ability is lightyears ahead.

5'11 vs 6'3, 4.6 40 vs 4.3, 30 inch vertical vs 40, needing thrown open vs huge catch radius... if Gill ends up at UT with Arch Manning, or another top half SEC team, he'll be on ESPN 10x what he would for Cuse in the ACC.

My biggest concern is I wanna know where let’s say $20-22 million of the money is going ($13 for revenue sharing, I’d estimate $7-9 from outside donors) idk exactly how much last year team got nil wise but that wasn’t worth the price we paid.

I agree IM.

I'm just wating for the dust to fall and when it's September I'll root for Syracuse but to be honest this whole free agent thing is wearing thin. I don't blame the players for leaving and I would probably do the same thing depending on circumstances. I'm starting to lose interest in this whole college football thing.
