The guy can at least learn this year and accelerate having a serviceable backup

Were trying to get better QB play right now not worse. No offense to Summers but from what I have heard he isn't anywhere close to being ready to play. The only options are Welch and or Culpepper. The staff has to bring in at least 2 qb recruits this class and I don't care how they do it.

Yeah, summers is way behind the ball so far. He’s certainly not an option.

I have a feeling Cuse will be searching transfer portal in the off season

It never fails on this board. The same guys that wanted Dungey benched for Devito now want Devito benched for Summers.

It's the circle of life on syracusefan.com

I never wanted Dungey benched what are you talking about

Culpepper from what I have heard is not even close to an option. Welch is a Senior RS, why have Summers if we cannot burn his Redshirt. He will probably transfer anyways like Chance Amie, why not ? He is naturally the second best QB behind Devito right ? Who is better, tell me please

I certainly don’t think a true freshmen who is buried on the depth chart would help this situation. I have to imagine for better or worse DeVito is the guy this year, then we need to hit transfer portal and recruiting trail hard for QBs and see who comes out on top. If it’s Tommy great, if it’s not get the next guy out there.

These people. The 4th guy on the depth chart is our savior folks

Its funny, he is 4th on depth chart because he is a RS, for no other reason...Devito has not potential at salvaging this season in his current state. Welch I have seen and is a Senior and just...well, not good. and Culpepper had cancer and was playing TE. Why is burning Summers redshirt such an "off the wall" idea. He is at least a 3 Star commit.

because Devito is still a way better option and a kid who clearly looked unready to play according to training camp reports is going to get destroyed, especially with the high school offensive line we would have in front of him. Tommy has plenty to work on, but he isn't some Rutgers Sitkowski bust, he still has a ton of potential.

Agree. Maybe not a full ton, but 3/4...
Tommy needs his moxy back; play like the UNC Tommy from last year...

Edit: Seeing both; I'd rather have gunslinger Tommy, than timid Tommy...

Dude hes 4th on the depth chart because he is no where near ready. Your talking like we have Kelly Bryant on the bench here or something. The kid was throwing the ball into the ground on skeleton drills in August that syracuse.com got footage of. What in the world are you talking about.

Agreed, look its clear we need depth at the QB position in the worst way especially after only having Summers as the only QB on the roster from the last two recruiting classes and missing out again on the top 2 or 3 guys this class. That said Summers is a true frosh who is more of a project then a guy ready to step in and play. To think he is the answer is insanity.

I never said start him but not exactly sure with Devito's obvious injury that he shouldn't be ready to go. I would at least get him some more work. If Devito is really injured and needs to sit, how would Summers be that much worse than Culpepper? I guess my point is that neither of Devito's backups are serviceable today. He is 4th on depth chart because he is a RS.

Welch and Culpepper are better options at the moment. I love devito but I want to see Welch come in against Pitt if devito is still feeling the injurt

I am not sold at all on Clayton Welch only because he has like what 10 attempts ? He is a Senior but has gotten so little playing time that he cannot be really "serviceable"
