Day Three Fall Camp: Wed., August 2, 2017

the deeper routes where there last year.. often though the QB settled on the softer reads and we got the completion and not the big plays. year 2 of the system and hopefully the qbs read the D abit better and make more of those decisions that lead to more big plays that the scheme creates.

it was frustrating to be there live and see guys running wide open and we threw 3 yd curl completions

Completely agree.

If TD is taking second team reps, looks like Markenzy is at RB also. I really think he will have a steady amount of carries this year. He physically is ready, just look at the picture above, his legs are massive! No arm tackles to take him down like they did with Strickland last year. I am optimistic about Pierre for sure. I am quite optimistic for the future I must say.

If devito starts the season at #2 and the opener is a blowout by halftime, who plays the 2nd half?

Exactly what I was thinking this morning. Do they burn his redshirt? I'm thinking no.

Personally, I am 100% against burning the redshirt. With ED as the solid #1, it gives TD the extra full year of actually playing, the year of doing nothing but absorbing the offense (which will make a HUGE difference in his 2nd year as a RS Freshman), and if he truly is picking it up as fast as hoped the chance to actually competitively compete next year for the starting spot. If as a RS freshman he can actually definitively beat ED in his senior season.... that does nothing but bode very well for the program.

They changed the rule so you can still redshirt even with appearing in 4 games right? So I would expect to see him in exactly 4 games barring severe Dungey injury

I believe it's 3 games but that's only for injuries

I'd stick with Dungey until in the 4th Q. He still needs as many reps as he can get and besides the team needing to learn how to win, they need to learn how to play 4 quarters and keep their foot on the gas.

I don't know how important game reps are vs blowing a season of eligibility for mop up duty.

There are so many variables to him playing or Red shirting it makes my head spin . One of the biggest is the potential for the possibility of the rule change for next year . If so I play him 2nd half game one and get reps and give babers confidence in him . Plus if ED goes down he has at least something to draw on , and then play him any chance you can in either way blow outs to gain experience. Say he beat ED out next spring and got the shirt this year everybody and rightfully so would say how can you trust him over ED with no game experience?
Also if ED keeps his job TD can take a shirt next year and have experience for his RS sophomore year ... or if he is wowing people after 3 days what's gonna happen in a month when everything slows down ??? The answer is there is no answer but things are looking up for the cuse QB 's .

Aren't there other programs that have played 2 QBs lately? Dungey has shown no sign of getting through a full season; if DeVito is equal to the challenge, play both concurrently...

If TD is really good enough to burn his shirt (indications are that he might be that good) then what makes all of us think he will be around for that 5th year anyway?

Why not do what florida did with Leak and Tebow?

Just thoughts, don't kill me!

I say you only burn his redshirt if Dungey goes down, TD is that much better than the rest and he can help you get to atleast 6 games this year. If those 2 things don't happen, you redshirt him.

TBH TD still has a lot to prove and learn let's
Wait and see how the next few weeks go . we know TD has the unique skill ( remember dilfer compared him to ARod ) TD needs to learn and grow over the next month , His hoopla alone has pushed ED all off season and ED looks better for it . Again all in all it's
Gonna b a good problem to have .

I couldn't agree with this more. Having someone to push you brings out the best in the best.

Not to mention you're right, it's a fun discussion but it is way to early for any of that talk. See how everything develops. It just seems surreal to have the "problem" of having a QB like TD come in as a true freshman and have a discussion like this.
