Day Three Fall Camp: Wed., August 2, 2017

the new rule for changing RS I dont think has been approved yet. its 4 games of play.

TBH TD still has a lot to prove and learn let's
Wait and see how the next few weeks go . we know TD has the unique skill ( remember dilfer compared him to ARod ) TD needs to learn and grow over the next month , His hoopla alone has pushed ED all off season and ED looks better for it . Again all in all it's
Gonna b a good problem to have .

seems like you're taking a softer approach to TD's progress. Not complaining, just an observation. I'm just glad that early reports indicate that his pre-camp hype is seemingly living up to expectations per players reports.

Aren't there other programs that have played 2 QBs lately? Dungey has shown no sign of getting through a full season; if DeVito is equal to the challenge, play both concurrently...
Only two that come to mind right away are Wake Forest and Northwestern.

i think at the end of the day, any kid that can help you win games now, should play.

Agree completely.

Always put the best players on the field and the next best at 2 deep. For a frame of reference, 'Bama (with top 5 or better recruiting classes year after year after year) is projecting as many as 7 true freshmen and 2 jucos will play key roles this season, with as many as 6 starting.

Personally, I am 100% against burning the redshirt. With ED as the solid #1, it gives TD the extra full year of actually playing, the year of doing nothing but absorbing the offense (which will make a HUGE difference in his 2nd year as a RS Freshman), and if he truly is picking it up as fast as hoped the chance to actually competitively compete next year for the starting spot. If as a RS freshman he can actually definitively beat ED in his senior season... that does nothing but bode very well for the program.

I agree, and with ZM's valuable game experience and RC , zero need to burn the shirt.

i think I just needed practice to get here and for him to do his thing , and to be patient and I have no patience lol . im excited to see how much clearer he will see things in the next few weeks when it slows down for him even more mentally

I'm not sure it's that clean. I mean, IMO, this is a program that needs to be able to develop talent AND develop depth. To me, a redshirt year is important on both of these fronts for as many recruits as possible. I mean, obviously McNabb could have played as a true frosh but he was a guy who got better each year and stayed for five years (not sure that would happen today, but developmentally it certainly seemed to help him).

I don't know -- it's hard to say b/c it's a different era of college sports but I think this program's only chance to feel like it has a shot at loftier goals than say a Pinstripe Bowl appearance and 4th place finish in their division is by getting back to trying to get kids a year to develop before running them out on the field. That's not to say they couldn't play and contribute, but that it helps with their development.

Having said that, as was pointed out in an earlier post, even the best programs seem to be playing more true freshmen these days.

It's not so much about playing true freshmen because they can play. It's more about playing every true freshmen that clearly puts the best talent on the field. That should be the mindset.

Everything is just so different than back in 94. I don't ever remember thinking I hope that true freshman McNabb gets on the field. I mean, I didn't even know who he was until that spring game at the end of his true freshman season. Recruiting just wasn't covered like that. (Gulp, I don't even think there was much of an internet. I'm 43 and feel like I'm 83 just by saying that).

It will really just depend on the game and situation. If Dungey gets hurt against one of the 3 super heavyweights (LSU, Clemson, FSU), you're going to see the Officer. He's been in those games. TD won't get thrown into that mess against those DL. You could probably say Miami too given their front 7 (NOTE I didn't say they're a powerhouse).

If it's an injury that's early on in any of the other 8, good chance you see TD, because he'd have time to get in a rhythm and help us best win.

I think there's 0% chance that TD redshirts. Would be nice to have a 5th year guy like McNabb 98, but can't imagine it will happen. Especially if he's impressing early in camp.

Aaron Hackett wins the Ronnie Garvin award on that first throw.

Didn't see Pierce nor N. Johnson in that video, but saw Elmore and Enoicy (unless I have the #'s wrong?)

Love that DeVito release.
what I notice is Td got the ball out fast as the WR turned the ball was on him ( dropped because of it) and the next qb threw it a little late , all timing stuff but these are the little things you look for, the difference makers

Oh we had an Internet back then...there was a guy who used to go to the open practices and report back to about 20 of us back then. He had a strange name like RRLTrump or something...wonder what happened to him. Legend has it he died after the '98 NCST game.

If TD is close to ED right now...and we don't have to play him...I'll very much look forward to 2021.
If TD Frosh is close to ED Junior then what are the chances that TD is here in 2021?

(Assuming rate of improvement over 4 years)

I always thought that was '96, but I know there was some AOL porn room that you all shared before I finally discovered the internet that year. And, without blame, you shut down the room of sin and moved to a new message board.
