Dear Herm Frazier... Future schedule request

They did that for 20 years. Then with new NCAA rules those type of games went away only to reappear sometime later under new names and locations, but the Kickoff Classic didn't. We participated 3 times. Our games were some of the least attended.
Those games were exemptions to the 11 game rule that CFB used to have. I agree we dont have a large fanbase but with all the other NFL stadiums doing preseason bowl games Metlife would be smart to do as well. Our Penn State game in 2013 was a respectable 61,202. Metlife would make money with that attendance figure and most years would probably get more.

Can we please get WFVU back on the schedule at some point in the future? Syracuse owned them of late and their fanbase is simply batshit crazy. It was always enjoyable beating the piss out of them after years of them whooping on us.

Maybe a 4 game series or something.

If not, maybe we can get Dumpster Fire U back on the schedule. What do you say RutgersAl?

Here's a little reminder:

Why legitimize RU.

Why legitimize RU.

They are in the B1G. I don't think us playing or not playing them will legitimize them. If we play and beat them we look better to NJ recruits. If we lose it's not like losing to a MAC or AAC team. Like it or not they are a peer team by conference affiliation.

I want the following back to Syracuse: (1) Michigan; (2) Auburn; (3) Texas and (4) UCLA.

We have historical connections to all four programs and have hosted all four in the last twenty years.

They represent the four other major conferences with whom the ACC competes.

For those worried about attendance, Syracuse University Football fans would come back to the Dome in droves if we could arrange scheduling with the above four schools.

Michigan with 9 B1G games won't schedule us again.
Auburn is a team we could get as the SEC requires 1 P5 team per year.
I doubt Texas will play us they have 9 conference games as well. We did turn down a series with them in 2007 during Gerg's run as HC.
UCLA is possible but likely.

Awesome. Another non-conference schedule thread. Let's try to get these down to only two a month, boys.

For my money, we should get schedules going with Army, Eastern Michigan, Miami (OH), Maryland, Illinois, Indiana, Missouri, Vandy, Mississippi State and West Virginia.

If we decide to play some TOP teams (akin to the LSU game), I'd propose Penn State, Michigan State or Texas.

UCLA was 1968...

Our old AD regime unlike most of our fellow P5 schools doesn't have our future OOC games scheduled. Most teams have their schedules done for the most part we have multiple openings thus these threads spring up more.
We need Coyle to get FB scheduling done a lot better.

Let's schedule Adams College. Their coach is John Goodman for Pete's sake .

i admit to blacking out for most of the 90s and early 00's...and boy was i convinced we didnt play them, but was too scared to look it up.

i wouldnt have missed either one of those live and to not have a memory...aye ye ye

I would drop 1-AA as scheduling need and go with an Army/Buffalo/Colgate rotation.

Miami as a non-conference opponent should be a thing.

I would be good with Rutgers because we are recruiting NJ so hard. Gives us a chance to play down there.
Eh. We gain nothing from playing Rutgers..i don't think the recruits are that concerned with playin in Jersey because we are already close.

Ive wanted Army and Navy forever. We played Army with McNabb and there is no reason that should have ended. Id love to play a service academy once a year. Make it a tradition.

Playing a 1AA/FCS team is a near-guaranteed win and it counts toward bowl eligibility. Why give up a home game to go play at Buffalo and West Point? I know those are desirable road trips for SU fans, by why give up the home games? This program need home game revenue.

Id like to play 2 northeast schools that we should always beat and one P5 school every year. Let's get Oregon over here sometime too..why not. Ideally id love to play Army and Navy every other year, Colgate every other year..and UB i guess. I don't mind playing the Rhode Islands and Maines of the northeast either.

All for Rutgers for all the reasons people don't want Rutgers.

There are logical reasons not to want Rutgers.

But that school just gets this board going. Imagine Rutgers week here?

I used to say no right after we got the ACC bid. Because I wanted them reduced to the Rutgers I (barely) knew in the 90s. But then the B1G came calling, so here we are...

Move BC to 2nd or 3rd weekend in October, and make Rutgers our annual finale. That's what I'd do if I were running things.

Imagine if they get Schiano back. Shafer's outburst at Dabo will look like a bedtime story in comparison. God I want this to happen.

I would like to play all those teams but we don't have much connection to any of them. Since 1918 we have played Michigan twice. We have only played Texas 3x one of which was the 1960 Cotton Bowl. Same with Auburn but their Bowl was the '88 Sugar. We played UCLA throughout the '60s but have not played them since.

If I can count right here are our the P5 teams we played the most in the Carrier Dome era:

33x RU & WV
14x Penn State
12x MD (including 2019)
7x Northwestern
5x Minny
4x Illinois & Ohio State

Which is such a small number of teams number given the 43 season time frame (assuming we don't add another P5 to future schedules).

If you want recent history it should be RU & WV (although WV will be very difficult to get on the schedule). If you want pre Big East history than it should be Penn State & MD (although MD will be difficult to get on the schedule). If you want someone else then it should be Northwestern. Outside of the Northeastern schools I wouldn't mind playing Northwestern on a yearly basis. Similar schools and they are in a major city.

I still think they're well on their way to being reduced to that Rutgers. Just give it a few more years.
