You have one of the better run defenses in the country. Granted the losses this year have not been pretty but you were mosly eviscerated through the air. So, someone please explain to me why you mix up your scheme and run a 3-4 with a TNT (tackle-nose-tackle) look? What they ran wasn't even a traditional 3-4 which would have put the inside LBs up on the guards and may have given us a prayer of stopping the dive. And if you are going to bring in another inside LB why would you not bring in Luke who is 250 and can take on a guard? And if you are going to play a team that mostly runs why do you have your safeties back in 2 deep? Why is one safety not up on the strong side to make it look like a 4-4 or a 46 bear? And why was one of those safeties Jerami Wilkes?

And lastly why, oh why did it seem that the D linemen did not attack all day long? They all got steamrolled and seamed to be trying to stand up whichever O lineman was head up on them to then read and shuck I guess. Sure I'm not a college football coach so I do not have the level of expertise that the staff has. But I do have common sense. And I would have liked to have sat in that meeting to figure out just what the hell they were thinking.

Today the defensive players were set up for failure. Its as simple as that. Just look at the scoreboard. Time to stop letting the coaches coach HCSS. On the bright side I was never happier to leave to take my 5 year old daughter to a princess themed birthday party.

This is my major concern. As soon as I saw we were going to run a 3-4 i knew it was going to be a long day, and we probably don't have the rigth DC for the job. I know HCSS is saying the right things right now and falling on the sword for his assistant coach, the same he did for McDonald after PSU, but i'm not buying it for a second. He said on several occasions he wasn't going to interfere with his coordinators and was going to let them coach because that's what worked best for him. This is totally on Bullough imo.

I said before that with Davis being out it made his decision even more peculiar, and then you don't even use Luke as the ILB, instead going with a 5'11 freshman? I mean what in the ? First thing you need to do is stop the run up the middle. That looked like the last thing we were worried about. We were so unprepared for this option it was a total embarrassment. I actually thought we stood a chance looking ahead to this game because I thought we had the size up the middle with Crume and Bromley to stuff up the dive option, and then had the size on the ends with Welsh and Robinson. They may not get to the quarterback, but they are solid against the runs. Combine that with our mad blitzing style I assumed we were going to shooter our LBers into the gaps. On top of that we are still in some sort of 2 deep zone coverage. Totally set ourselves up for failure. These kids never had a chance, and that was the most disheartening part of today

Fantastic post! That's what I've been asking myself all day. The players had no chance at all in that scheme. That was a disaster that some one deserves to get fired for. That's one of the worst coaching decisions I've seen since watching SU football. What the hell were they thinking? I'm mean it was a gimmick defense. It wasn't even a real defense.

Anyone know how Bullough did running the 3-4 at UCLA? Hint: it was Robinson-esque.

But I am pretty sure we didn't run a 3-4 on offense, so that one is even harder to explain.

People are suggesting HCSS needs to get more involved in game planning. I'm not so sure the answer is that simple.

exactly why we would deviate from our 4-3 after we have been so good against the run all year is something i would love to know the reasoning behind

imo we have talent on the defense. very worst it's no where near as bad as they have been in 3 of those losses. our offense really needs a talent upgrade so when your defense struggles so bad and gets you in a early hole your forced to abandon your strength which is running the ball. imo it all starts with the defense. if the defense keeps it close were able to stick to the offensive game plan. if were forced to throw it around with either Hunt or Allen were going to struggle mightily

We gave up 34 points and 390 yards to NW...in the first half! 35 first half points to Clemson and 625 total yards on D (468 in the air). And now GT rushes for nearly 400 yards. I am not so sure how much talent we have on D.

well we potentially have 3 or 4 future NFL players on our defense

Bromley and......

Keon Lyn, Brandon Reddish, possibly Dyshawn Davis, and Eskridge has all the physcial tools if he can get it together mentally. same with Raymon

None of those dbacks are playing in the league.

Ha, I had to leave at halftime to go to a princess themed bday party as well.

The father of the girl that my 4 yr old son calls his girlfriend was wearing a GT hat. We started talking about how good they looked today. He asked me who I root for. I think I said Old Dominion, can't remember.

tell that to NFL scouts

that's what i'm saying they look like cause of the scheme. it looks like they are getting torched, but there in some zone

Respectfully disagree with that list. I think it might be a stretch for any of those players to get drafted, let alone play in the NFL. I know Keon is projected as a 6-7 rounder. Just don't see it.

disagree all you want this just isn;t my opinion. NFL scouts were asking Shamarko last season about Reddish when he was a sophmore. you better believe he gets drafted. they barely draft these guys on college production, but if they have the size and speed they know NFL DC's can put them in the right spots to make plays

Easily Bromley, Davis and Spruill. I'll even go on a limb and say Eskridge and Whigham in 2-3 years.

"Easily" huh? Where is Kaiser when you need him.

I won't need to tell that to scouts. They're plenty able to figure it out.

They're slow footed and slow to react. They get beat in zone or man. Whigham is the only guy that looks real.

ok well just don't be surprised when you see them drafted

I will be. I'll be even more surprised to see them play in a game. I mean I'd think that after the season we've had we could all agree we have no NFL talent. I'm not sure why it matters anyway. The poster that said our defense wasn't very good was correct. I'm as big a fan as they come but we're not good. Time to scramble to 6 wins and get to whatever bowl we can.

it matters because it means our defensive coordinator is not any good and can't win with some decent talent. even if they aren't NFL talent they aren't 56-0 bad.

so let me ask a question. if we had GT's defensive talent how do you think our DC would do?

Oh I'm not absolving the dc at all, he should already be gone. But it's not all a scheme problem either. Our players generally lack game sense and athleticism.

The league is a different animal. Cuse has 11 guys in the league. And I'm supposed to think 4 more come off this defense? Think about the guys cuse has put in the league as dbacks...will...shamarko...donovin...Gregory...those guys were light years ahead of these guys.

what was your thoughts on the same guys i listed last season when they were put in a position to succeed? did they magically get worse?
