Built this out of 90 landscape timbers...at $1.97 a peace cheaper this way than the standard way. My development in the Syracuse area.

Damn thing probably weighed 2 tons as I need my tractor to set this.

But did S. Miner authorize your permits, or did you happen to leave off the permit application your affinity for SU?

On a serious note, could th quiet surrounding the Dome renovation just be the quiet before the storm, a.k.a. the permitting process? If I recall, the permit process was super slow with the IPF. I can't see why the city would move any faster now than they did before.

The only thing worse than a tunnel under LA... is driving in a tunnel under LA during an earthquake. And yet we have the negative nancies here who worry about our water table. Cars can float the last I checked.
Post of the year! I'm calling it now and it's only January. Freaking literally laughing as I read that post and the responses

Thanks, guys, for that. Amazing stuff.

Eh, chucks lost its juice years ago. Faegans and the new Lucy's surfer bar local are the heart of the marshall street scene.

The new Lucy's (Orange Crate) is also being torn down with this project.

Aren't there 2 in Presidential Plaza that are essentially empty?

The last I knew, there was only one vacant building in Presidential plaza - the old Harrison House Apartment building (a former HUD property). It was bought by SUNY Upstate in 2011, along with what was then known as Townsend Tower. Townsend Tower was renovated by Upstate and is now known as Geneva Tower.

As far as I know, Upstate still owns Harrison House. I believe I had heard that they wanted to do a similar renovation there that they had done at Townsend Tower, but haven't been able to secure the funding for it. The project was originally supposed to be completed in 2014. Not sure what their plans are for it currently, but its status would appear to be irrelevant to this proposed project.

Update: Upstate Medical University buys vacant downtown Syracuse apartment buildings for student housing

Deal would resume work on renovation of two high-rises in Syracuse

Why does the developer want tax breaks? Stupid.

The answer is because no large projects built in Upstate NY are done so without tax breaks. Dumb structure, but it's how these projects get completed around here.

Yeah, it costs much more to construct a building than the building is worth.

My main concern here is the parking. Tax breaks, OK. Necessary evil. Tax breaks for a building that's walkable to everything, two blocks from every bus line in the county, and directly next door to a 1,000-car garage? Building an additional 1,100-car garage under the current building (at maybe $40,000 per space) is unreasonable.

I would guess that this aspect won't make it to the design phase.
