Development in and Around Syracuse Discussion

Does this mean they are at least starting to accept that the community grid is happening so they are gonna try to get some freebies from the state instead?

hopefully. This project is 10 years over due.

I would like them to re-vamp the Rte-92/481 interchange ... that thing is a disaster.

Linking this because of the final paragraph of the article:

In addition to serving as team Chairperson, Galvin's focus will be on developing a mixed-use project centered around a multisport arena, performing arts venue and community food hall concept.

Interesting, I would love to see this happen and not built in the suburbs.

I’ve met Paul a couple of times. He’s a good guy. Definitely a fan of urban development. His company constructs buildings out of shipping containers. He was supposed to build that apartment building across from XO Taco but the deal fell through and another developer built there.

Interesting, though I'm not sure how construction advances could make a big dent in the affordable housing shortage when, as he notes, the bottleneck is upstream: the LIHTC application and financing process.

For market-rate housing, yeah, this is a nice piece of the puzzle: low-waste and lower-cost construction.

Yeah there are definitely bureaucratic road blocks in the way that are definitely not always easy to overcome, especially when you are talking about government processes (no offense).

None taken! Everything's very regimented, and that makes it very hard to accomplish policy goals as perfectly as we might like.

Oh, that building. Good luck to them. I think that's a tough location.

I think it’s a great location right at the corner of Salina and Jefferson, especially with the conversion of the old Sibley building across the street hopefully happening soon.

And Kubal on the other corner, Salt City Market a couple of blocks down. Nothing changes if nothing changes.

Not to mention TGCPlayer plus basically every building on that block that had been vacant for years has been converted into residential. I'd have to guess that two block stretch of Salina Street has had 80-100 units of residential come online just in the last 2-3 years.

It reminds me of the Inner Harbor, most of that area was desolate for years much like those few blocks of S. Salina. Build it and they will come or so they say. Unfortunate that COR got the work but Stephanie Miner got it done.

The owner continues to surreptitiously strip the interior on weekends. And he plans to build a dozen or so enormous apartments soon.
Interesting. There seems to be a story there that Syracuse.com should go after. I know pandemic 2020 has put everything on pause but that site seemed to always be in the news for its historical significance until a few years ago.
