The building is tiny, cramped. The inside really needed a facelift, old wood walls and seating - very dark. We liked going there occasionally for the food. Sad it’s closing. I used to laugh and say that Ruston’s diner and the Clam bar must be related - same decor, old wood all over, decent food but I think Ruston’s might actually be a bit bigger.

Yes, I agree. It definitely needs to be renovated. I have heard a couple of rumors about what may happen - Kenny, the guy that owns the building, he also owns the Basil Leaf building, is going to sell the property. That is what one of the bartenders told me. If that happens given how valuable the property is I expect Chick Fil A to change their plans and buy that property with the Basil Leaf property and that will be the end of that.

The other rumor that one of the other bartenders is floating around is that Kenny is going to do some remodeling, reopen in 3 months with new management. He wasn't fond of this latest owner I guess.

I like Ben Walsh's thinking here. Penalize these places for a year and hope they can't recover financially. The Alpine is the 2nd one to go down, Lookers was the 1st. It's a better path than trying to change the zoning

The order was issued last year after a series of arrests for harassment, assault and weapons charges at the club.

The proximity to St Joe‘s hospital was terrible. I had to rush my husband to their ER room where he was admitted a few years ago. He finally got settled in a room but it was almost 2am when I was driving home. The Alpine was right at the corner with a stop light at Butternut St. I guess the Alpine just closed, I’m at the light and all the people from the Alpine were in the street, some fighting, others just milling around, others yelling and I’m stuck at the light. I just tried to pretend nothing was going on, that I wasn’t seeing what I was seeing. I took the left hand turn in the wrong lane (no car was thankfully there) to head to 81 to get out of there. It was right near the ER, it had to be scary for people already stressed from their hospital experience. Terrible location but I wouldn’t know of a good one for it.

I would have high tailed it out of there too, who knows if someone pulls out a gun or tries to get in your car and then what. It is a terrible location for that place, all of them in a residential neighborhood should be closed. They can move to Erie Blvd or over by the National Guard where it's a business district and not residential.

Remember like 20 years ago when they floated plans to create a red light district over between Erie Blvd and 690 in the Pete Street area? I believe the proposal was to make strip clubs illegal everywhere in the city except for that area. Unsurprisingly, it did not garner much support.

I actually waited till the light changed. I was really wary but I was very tired, my mind racing in a million directions. I was almost amused that it just seemed right in step with the crazy day I had. In fact I remember thinking to myself that at least I was right near an emergency room. I was probably lucky that I was so tired that I was thinking of the poor elderly people bringing in a patient or visiting, who would freak out. Funny because I didn’t acknowledge that I would be considered that elderly person who could freak out. Thankfully no guns, and just idiots who were preoccupied by fighting or watching those fighting in the street. The street and highway were so desolate driving home that it seemed like a weird dream. Guess it helps to have a weird, tired, sick mind sometimes. Glad it was shut down, good for the hospital employees, patients, visitors and neighbors.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Breeze fly 2 or 3 nonstops between Syracuse and Boise by 2025. I'm pretty sure their smaller aircraft have the legs to make the trip nonstop.

I expect some West Coast nonstop flights added too as Micron expands.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Alaska Air enter the market.

Owera shutting down wedding events:

The winery opened a tasting room, and erected a tent in a separate location on the property to host events. Almost immediately, neighbors began to complain about noise, bright lights at night and other disturbances during and after events. The town cited the winery for such nuisances several times in 2013 and initially blocked a proposal for a permanent event building. Owera received approval in 2015 from the town for a 6,300-square-foot building but the town Planning Board limited the hours of operation, set noise levels, restricted the number of events per week and required music be acoustic.

I only ever went to the vineyard once with my wife, she went a few times with her best friend. I have no relationship with the owners or skin in the game, but holy hell. All summer long that lake is full of motorboats and jet skis. It's gotten to the point that to have some kind of minor development means you need to have a 200-acre buffer around your property.

Yeah there are basically no neighbors. But those six neighbors have tried like hell to shut that place down since the day plans were announced. Looks like they were finally successful in killing off a local business, so kudos to them.

I wonder how this saga will end. As I said in my post above, the point is to temporarily shut the place down so the owner(s) cannot recover financially. Looks like this is going to court, the outcome will be interesting and may change the landscape in the city. Or maybe not.

Alpine strip club reopening Wednesday night despite city-ordered shutdown, owner says

"Less than a month after the order, owner Gary Salvatore said today the club will reopen at 9 p.m.
“I’m not going to sit here like a lame duck,” Salvatore said.

After hearing nothing from the city after the shutdown he said he did his own research and found the city violated state and federal laws.

The city unconstitutionally violated the “taking clause” by making his property have no value, he said. They also violated the law by not having a neutral party decide nuisance abatements and shutdown orders, he said. Salvatore said he drafted a document regarding the violation of his rights and served the city with them on Nov. 22.

He also said he’s abided by the city’s requests: He has cameras and lights. His club has security guards and he said he personally sees the doors are locked before closing.

“I can’t sit idly and essentially become homeless,” he said. “I’m not trying to be adversarial; this is our livelihood.”

What I'm wondering is what they're going to do about 690. It's almost equally old, and it still cuts across parts of downtown, very close to buildings. But it seems a lot more essential, helping people to from the East to West side, and vice versa, more quickly.

I use 690 every single day. Aside from maintaining it… imo any move to remove it is not even reinventing the wheel but just lighting it on fire.

To me it provides simple entrance and exit from downtown.
