Dino and the media

It was close.

I was at that one as well.

It was hot - Kyle Orton was at his best - the Purdue train blast was endless as the Boilermakers continued to score and Joe Fields was clearly not ready to play.

At least it didn't rain that day - I traveled to Ga Tech the morning of the game thinking that it would be a nice day trip. I didn't think it would rain. I got drenched at Bobby Dodd.

Purdue game was humiliating and on a big stage.

Georgia Tech...was the most unbelievable systemic mutilation I can ever remember. Horrific gameplan matched by worse execution.

Yeah.

100%. BS Dino. Dino always makes sure the cameras are pointed in his direction when he is ready to self promote after a big win. BS Dino, sorry, hypocritical. Waaay too much time on the media instead of worrying why wards 11 guys are giving up 700+ yards.

I know you're passionate about SU Ish but seriously, we know what Babers says to the media and but we have NO idea what he says to his team or staff...none. Do you honestly believe that he's happy with the D's performance or the staffs? He's taking the hits and to be honest that's what I want him to do.

To Shafer people since you want to rip Dino fine allow me another opportunity to slam the meathead coordinator masquerading as the HC for 3 years before Dino.

Also the local media in Syracuse outside of the basketball beat reporters suck. Carlson/Axe/Bailey are trolls who read this board and try to generate clicks. They are terrible and should be called out as much as possible.

Dino has made mistakes this year he still MILES and when I say MILES is actually nice better a HC than Scott Shafer. To Shafer people he stole money from Syracuse University we hired someone unqualified to do the job and now our program is in full rebuild mode because Shafer was allowed a chance as HC.

Dino doesn't look in the mirror much. Its either:

1. The qb plays reckless
2. We are young and learning the system and it will pop on week x, on leap year x.
3. We lack depth at key positions, all after we played 3 weeks on a row with blueblood programs.

And when we win, the cameras make their way miraculously into the locker room and it was the speech that did it. No looking in the mirror about why the team came out flat the last 2 weeks with a bowl on the line. No comments about the D system. It isn't injuries, only missing Martin on D.

1. The qb plays reckless - True Statement
2. We are young and learning the system and it will pop on week x, on leap year x. - True Statement
3. We lack depth at key positions, all after we played 3 weeks on a row with blueblood programs. - True Statement

Is there anything that DB said that wasn't true? Especially #3, we lack any depth with talent after the starters.

As far as Dino being in front of every camera he could be and self promoting...you have seriously lost your mind.

Do you think Dino could be in front of those cameras if they didn't want him there, nope. He was there because the upset of Clemson was a national news story and he wasn't promoting himself, he was promoting the program.

Do you peek through your curtains at night thinking there are people coming to get you too??

I LOVE DINO, didn't care for his comments today. I know 8 season ticket holders blowing off the game for various reasons stated on this board. Dino needs to get over his self promoting preaching and get real with his team.
Your first statement is very disingenuous. You keep saying you LOVE him, but go out of your way to criticize him. Which is it?

Seriously, what "hits" has he taken. All he does is give us the "its a process" and "depth" answers in the post game pressers. The media plays softball with him too.

You can love and still criticize. If i didn't love him and want him to stay, i wouldn't care about wins and loses.

My fear with the local press is they make it difficult to produce a winner in this town. Syracuse in general feeds off negative news and the local media feeds into that.

I know people hate Boeheims pressers, but he’s always known when directly go after certain reporters.
I disagree a little bit - A) I think our reporters are cats compared to real markets and B) I think the average fan (let alone the rabid SU fan) thinks our press team are idiots who are strictly trying to up their compensation thru clicks and comments. JB's genius is he gets that the local media doesn't matter. He is a totally different person with the national guys for a reason.

I agree with you on point B, but my issue with Carlson, Axe, Infanti, Bailey is they completely manufacture stories. Just like they were starting to manufacture Dino leaving after the Clemson win. At this point I just roll my eyes with them even though Axe will tell you he’s smarter than everyone else.

Our fans and the media are going to do their best to run him off.
I think that is a cop out. This is big boy football involving big time dollars. Where is he going to run off to with his current record and where he doesn't face the same "fans and media"?

Other than getting under the skin of some extremely sensitive fans, is Babers wrong? Or just being blatantly truthful and setting expectations?

Yes, he made all of the appearances he could after the Clemson win. That's part of his IMG contract. No one wants to interview a losing coach, but EVERYONE wants to interview the upset-winning coach of a historical program perceivably on the rise. This is important to understand.

Our local media has left a bad taste in my mouth since Marrone's tenure. They do not do themselves any favors.

You are spot on. Wow, very hypocritical if Dino. Saying as a fanbase and community we need to better handle winning like the Clemson game? Whoa, excuse me. Wow, Dino was all over the map the days after our big win. Remember, HE, and HE only allows those cameras into the locker room, and its only to set up his self serving speeches, that YES, also give the program some pub. But, sorry, this last comment is kinda a slap in the face to community and fanbase. And if previous HCs made similar comments, they would have been slammed. Dino has gotten a pass this far but hos comments are soooo fair weather. The team has folded the last 2 weeks with convenient excuses like depth but again this was about the D missing one starter. Bad look , Dino, i love you and think you could be the guy but bad look with saying the fanbase didn't react correctly after Clemson, only after the last 2 apathetic losses.

Did Dino jump on every media opportunity after the Clemson win? You bet he did. But that's called recruiting. It wasn't to toot his own horn. This program needed a pick me up and some attention to steal some recruits and he tried to take advantage of an opportunity. I don't blame him for that. At the same time, the current team, coaching staff, media and fanbase shouldn't have gotten ahead of itself by assuming we'd walk through the rest of the schedule. On top of that, the team suffered some injuries.

I agree, we have this discussion about bad relationships with literally every coach we have.

Is it like this everywhere? Is it a coincidence? I don't really know. What I do know is every coach we've had, has their moments with click.com.

He could easily be a OC making slightly less at an SEC school. Work his way back to a HC job. As a Black coach, he doesn't have much room for error.

Before I saw the quote in full, I was a bit surprised that Dino had turned against the local media. That was before I didn't get the context of what he was saying and the hacks at the P-S getting mad over nothing. This was a hit job by the local paper in an attempt to create controversy where there was none. Could he have worded his statement better? Yes. I would have left out the community. They're already a fairweather fanbase with little patience; no need to bring it up more.

Regarding him not turning down any camera time, all I have to say is this. Syracuse is one of the worst jobs in college football at the moment. Although they are getting better payouts due to being in the ACC and slowly improving their facilities, it is a very difficult school to get top prospects to come to. He's not going to turn down free publicity to show off his personality and sell the university to prospective players. Beyond being a program that is years behind their peers, it is a school in the middle of Central New York where the weather is terrible and the city doesn't offer much for young people. It is a tough sell.

We're all disappointed that the team fell off of the cliff the way it did. However, although my faith has been rattled in recent weeks, I do believe that progress has been made. Wildhack said as much during the basketball game last night. It isn't showing up in the win column, but the program is headed in the right direction. Its as if some of you forget that the previous regime (Daryl Gross included) scorched the Earth with their recruiting and coaching decisions.

Marrone was semi successful here and .com hated him. It’s not a coincidence.

Personally I think this is crap. IF HCDB wanted to keep the comment to the team needing to handle it better that would have been fine, but I have been fairly consistent in my belief that he needs to stop telling fans how to be fans and focus on coaching his team. If he takes care of the latter, he won't have to worry about the prior.

"Newhouser" sticking up for the media. Didn't see that coming ;)

What process are you pointing at?
Eastern Ill - 2 years, won and gone
BG - 2 years, won and gone
Cuse- 2 years, 8-15

I only ask because Dino hasn't show a process to successfully rebuilding anything, he shows an ability to instantly turn around a team which didn't happen here. The man has never even really played with his own recruits. Next year will be interesting.

It's taking longer, but it's still happening.

We are tired of losing and these last 6 quarters were worse than anything we ever saw from Shafer and border on Gerg levels of terrible. Yes there were some who were convinced we could run the table but I think most people simply felt like our bowl chances were better than ever after Pitt/Clemson so to turn back into a Gergian level team after the 1st half at Wake is kind of a big kick in the testes.

I don't know the 4 vs GaTech were particularly awful (56-0).

It's right there in front of us:
Dungey in Babers O, 8-9
Backups in Babers O, 0-6

2017 with better S: 4-3
2017 with last years S: 0-4

We don't have the depth to deal with QB injuries and our hand-picked replacement at S (and Cordy).

Yes they were, just to be clear, between 2nd half of Wake and first half UL we were outscored 75-15, basically the same point differential. So I guess it's not worse than Shafer's worst performance, it just equals it.

This whole thing is a giant nothing burger.

When I think of Syracuse Football community I think of the fans, the players, the media, the students, this site, etc. So does he. He pointed outward, which the butterflies in the media took as at them. When a public speaker points to the audience and says community and then follows it up with multiple "we" statements, he's talking about all of it.

This whole thing says more about the media than anything about Dino.

in 2 less Q, played at half the tempo

Plain and simple the local Syracuse media outside of Waters/Ditota flat out suck.
I wish they wouldn’t hide behind their lurking and realize fans can’t stand their routines.

Rahme was good.
Since him Syracuse football coverage blows.
Good job Dino.
