I'm referring to the process of rebuilding a dumpster fire of a program in general. That isn't what happened at his other two stops. They weren't a rebuild of a team with 17 years of losing. The process of rebuilding a terrible program almost always, without exception requires 3-4 years to become a respectable team that wins 6-7+ wins a year. The process involves allowing the head coach enough time to recruit and bring in players he selected for the systems he runs on offense and defense. The process requires allowing the coach to build quality depth. That doesn't happen in 2 years. The process, as shown at other schools that were horrible for a long time, like Stanford, k state, Baylor etc involves winning games you shouldn't win and also losing games that make you scratch your head during the process. The bottom line is that 99% of the teams that were turned around, required suffering through inconsistent play during the first 2-3 years. The most recent example I can think of is Clawson at wake. 3-9 his first 2 years. 6 in year 3 and this year he could win 9 and have a statue built. So yes, there is a process of recruiting, winning and losing and learning and suffering.
This doesn't happen in a vacuum. At eastern Illinois, and at BG, he inherited talent that was close to or similar to the rest of the teams in those conferences. Completely different story at SU. He has talent that is nowhere close to the talent of the top teams in the ACC.
