Dino Babers hopes fans will support Syracuse football; will you go to the games? (poll)

If we dont get 40000 + for UNC, we have a serious issue on our hands imo.

serious issue? I think we'll be fine no matter what the attendance ends up being. We're being underwritten by tv contracts right now. We can pay ACC HC salaries. The attendance thing is just one of a few issues people have. If he went to USC for example, that school has attendance issues too but in a much larger stadium. 55k in a 110k stadium vs 40k in a 50k stadium.

We'll be fine. People will come but it wont happen overnight

If we're 5-1 and don't have 40K for a home game against a conference foe, there is a huge issue. Understand they're not giving away the building any more and I appreciate it, but this is a critical year in a lot of ways.

I think the change in attendance will lag a bit more. I think we'll see a bigger change next year, if we finish the season strong. The people that aren't coming are not the people that can tell this team is better. They are the people that see a record similar to the previous two years at this point and won't believe we're better until we finish strong. 17 years of mostly ineptitude will take a little while to overcome.

Try to see this from the perspective of the casual observer and not a diehard that posts on this board. They don't care whether someone is a conference foe. There are two things they care about. Is the team successful/fun and are we playing a big name opponent. We have no big name opponents left on the schedule and our success is still TBD.

If we are ranked (which I full expect to be if we are 5-1 heading into UNC), there should be 40K at the game. That's what I believe to be true.

I think Louisville will be the only game around 40k. Get to 37/38 for each of the North Carolina teams and that's pretty significant at this point. There is a lot of competition for fannies still in October, particularly if either game is a nooner. Homecoming and Parents' Weekend will help.

Jake Crouthamel used to frequently say the opponent had just as much to do with why people attend SU football games as the home team's record.

What I believe he meant was that casual SU football fans are willing to attend if BOTH the team is winning AND the opponent is a name brand.

It's the reason why games against Rutgers/Temple from 1980's through 2004 typically drew 36k regardless of how good SU's record was. It's also the reason he scheduled national brands like Texas, OSU, Florida, Oklahoma, etc. The record must be good and the opponent perceived as a challenge.

I'm not saying this is a legitimate fan perspective. I believe both winning AND opponent's quality drive attendance.

I believe we'll have over 40k for UNC. Should be closer to 45k if we beat Pitt. Dino is going to have to look at attendance numbers from Marrone's years for faith that the fanbase will show out (i.e. over 40k) for a winning team.

The reality is, the question isn't how many people are coming, the question is how many people that weren't planning on coming are deciding now to come.

There's going to be a lag there. I'm more confident that we see an attendance increase next season than this one, even though we do look a lot better.

Dino's noticed the empty seats. When he leaves the attendance will be why. Fill the dome.

Encouraging to see that with over 1,100 votes, many are positive. 75% (888) said they are "all in, dino has made it fun again" and 16% (189 votes) said they'd make 1 of the 3 remaining games

Beat Pitt, get ranked, there will be nice crowd for the UNC game the week after.

Beat UNC, move up in polls and you'll have close to a sell-out for NC State if the Wolfpack is still ranked when they come into the Dome.

You won't have to beg anyone to come to the games, winning will take care of that.

Bringing myself plus 1 and hopefully more to UNC. Aiming to hit more than that this year as well.

I’ve got a feeling people will be disappointed with the crowd for our next home game
We will see, CNY haven't had a 5-1 team ranked in a long time. I say we will do well.

I mentioned marketing yesterday because when Dino talks about attendance in a press conference, the fans who are NOT going to the games, are also NOT watching or listening to his press conference.

When you've been so bad for so long you've lost people to the point of not getting them back. So you better do something in the marketing dept. A message board and press conference aren't going to do anything.

The University needs to spend some money and market to get fans to the game.

The only people watching a post game press conference are the people who are already going to the games.

Aint it funny how parking doesn’t seem to affect Basketball season? Or Monster Jam? I’m so sick of that arguement.

If they do not lower individual seat prices for the UNC game ..

Parking isn’t bad at all. (Maybe a little pricey for some lots)

add in that by the time we play Lou game only a few teams will still be playing at a friday night hype game should be a good crowd.

Do they play commercials locally? Like I know down here there’s Penn State crap on TV all the time. I love our hype videos. Think it would be cool to see something of that caliber on tv during a prime time show or something.

I know we want everyone to come, but what do you think the current target demo is/should be? Families? Young adults?
