Dino Babers hopes fans will support Syracuse football; will you go to the games? (poll)

I agree but even with a win vs Pitt, the following bye week will kill some of the juice and momentum, especially for the casual fan. The fan demographic we are trying to rope into the dome. Its a tough sell in Cuse and without a doubt the silver seats on gameday have Dino's full attention. Hope i am wrong and hope we get a desirable kick time like 330 or 400.
I look at the following bye week as an extra week SU should use to invest further in marketing.

Maybe hold a bye week, mid season pep rally/block party.

Love your thought , should be a chance at marketing around town and surrounding areas. Its lacking always has been.

Have you checked prices at Cuse.com? Sheesh!
Makes my season tics look like a bargain...

Should be all over Utica, binghamton, oswego, auburn, oneida etc. those people are sports fans.

Right on, and extending for a 200 mile radius wouldn't hurt either... there are fans in Canada, buffalo, Albany, and even the metro north nyc area.

Have to capture your core before you expand to areas where other teams have influence. Cayuga/Madison/Oswego/Oneida and Onodaga county alone have close to 600,000 people. We’re in the center of the state, surrounded by people who show rabid support for any team near them, like the Utica Comets and Cornell Hockey, whiles theres a D1 ACC program 40 mins away.

**well over 800,000.

Aint it funny how parking doesn’t seem to affect Basketball season? Or Monster Jam? I’m so sick of that arguement.

People don’t tailgate for b-ball. And football always draws more.

How are the events on the Quad? Are they catching on?

I totally agree, but outside of hoops upstate is a pro geography. Whether it be independent teams, minor league, or whatever. Its frustrating. The utica hockey team kills it in terms of attendance at the Aud. Cfb is so regional and just not a priority in the northeast. We are the prime example with UB, temple, umass right behind UB has a really good product and team and a huge enrollment. Army draws the best and os the only NE team to fill ots stadium warranting an expansion. PSU of course but i try and ignore them.

Yes they are...lots of positive reports

Good! Granted the pregame atmosphere had nowhere to go but up. Regardless, I'm happy local fans are responding positively to the effort. With declining attendance nationwide, anything we can do to put butts in seats will pay dividends for our program.

Id argue this is a direct result of uninspiring marketing efforts. People my age know basketball because of melo and the great teams since. No one my age has known good football at cuse or would know to look. Marketing needs to be better and aimed at young families and young professionals.

I am right with you. I work in Albany at times traveling for sales and couldn't wait to get to my accounts and talk cuse fb, its a weekly thing and its astounding that week to week these fans , if cfb fans at all are only locked in on the national games. Some found our game this week running into it on ABC and were turned on and impressed. First time watching cuse fb. These fans are 2 hrs away by car...dont get it.

In the marketing department's defense, they've had a really tough job since 2012.

Well, now its 2018 and we’re 4-1

Exactly, they should strike while the iron is hot. I still don't blame them too much for the apathy over the last 6 years.

If we win on Saturday...I bet they market the Ish out of it for the UNC and NCSt games. I see a push for crowds to approach 40-45k

Since 2002.

I don’t care if you have Don Draper running marketing, a lousy product is a lousy product, and that’s what SU football has been for much of the past 2 decades.

SU knows how to put their thumb on the scale and pop a 42K+ crowd. They’ve done it several times before in recent years. If the team beats Pitt then the crowd for UNC will be OK. Beat UNC and the crowd for NC State be even better. Beat NC State and Wake and the crowd for UL, on a Friday night, will be excellent. Note the need for winning. Winning is the best marketing.

Not for nothing I do find it interesting and a bit comical that HCDFB expected/gets 2.5 to 3 years to start showing significant change and we get 1 game to show significant change. A bit incongruent...That said I go to the games with my son and friends so it’s not exactly a direct impact to me. Honestly this is where AD gets some of his pay. He needs to work Dino a bit on the attendance as he is bumping Dino’s paychecks. Oh by the way, Dino needs to continue interacting with the community and selling a bit as well. This is a bit like “Field of Dreams”...build it and the fans will start to come. There are multiple parts to “building it” though. Go Cuse!
Said perfectly.

I dig the ad,but isn't the whole apple picking thing just a straw man? I've definitely had weekends consumed by yard work and kids sports, and to me, that's what SU is competing with for time and money, especially among the demographic they should be targeting. Those things tug at my sense of responsibility and make shelling out $200+ per game a much tougher sell. It's also why I complain about the length of games. Time and money - I only have so much of each.

I also agree with the above that despite demographic trends, SU needs to find another 5k plus fans from the small cities within an hour or so drive.

I'd argue that your biggest contingents come from those areas now.

Probably right! But a lot of those potential die hards arent touching $110 upperbowl tickets

You know, the more I think about this with the young professionals moving into revitalized downtown complexes, that should probably be a core focus.

I never thought that reducing the pricing model was the golden ticket, but with the younger generation struggling to afford rent maybe it’s something they look into to get them involved.

I’d be looking for introductions to the property developers at the larger apartment complexes. Having a ticket deal for all of your tenants puts it right in front of their faces when they get home at night.

I’m obviously just spit firing, morning musings.
