Dino on staff changes

He looks at the little numbers and stars and thinks that’s what matters

Well, except our recruit rankings in the ACC each year is about on par with our overall record the last 4 years. So chuckle chuckle all you want but there’s a level of correlation to recruiting rankings vs performance, when you are recruiting in the bottom levels of your conference. It’s silly to pretend those things don’t matter at all.

There was a study that proved a very positive correlation between recruiting rank and winning.

There just aren't that many diamonds in the ruff. It really is the Jimmies and the Joes.

yeah, I mean we have a bunch of Dino guys prob going to play in the NFL and we didn’t before so I see your point

(Cisco, Robinson, Coleman, T. Jackson, Smyzt, Melifonwu - maybe Harris, Adams, DeVito)

Let’s wait till they are in the NFL before jumping to conclusions that they’ll automatically make it there. People said the same thing about Shafers guys as if they were sure things and look how that ended up. Yes Smyzt and some other guys are likely sure things but throwing a handful of names out there like they’re all sure things is pushing it.

that’s also not a very good amount of guys projected to the NFL, if we are going to be completely honest with ourselves. It’s better than we’re used to but it’s not like it shows we’ve become some powerhouse. We just won 5 games.

For a year as a coordinator or asst. HC role, why not? Take a gap year without all the responsibility, recharge, learn some things, and fix up the OL. Win/win.

And take the two MA OLs that BC has in their recruiting class this year.

Exactly. I really don’t feel like writing books anymore to educate people on these things. People also don’t realize that just because a recruit has an offer from another FBS school doesn’t mean that they aren’t our first option but the 3rd option for the other school. Those things matter. Purely pointing out that guys have other offers so they must be good, or better than being credited for is just living in a fantasy world.

Another way to look at is that we played with mostly FHCSS recruits the first two years and won 8 games, we played the last two years with a 50-50 mix of FHCSS and HCDFB recruits and won 15 games.

We’ll see what we win the next two years (obviously we’re all hoping for >15, but that’s why they play the games)

Where in the world did I say that he was going to fire everyone? What I do say is that if you are going to let a coach or coaches go, you let them know right away. That is the decent thing to do.

My guess is any changes will be made after the early signing period (Dec. 19-21), but prior to the American Football Coaches Association annual convention Jan 12-14 (which is the primary networking event for college coaches who are looking for jobs).

I think we’re recruiting better than we did in the past. I don’t know that it’s vastly better though as some people suggest.

Another way to look at it. If we finish next year with 7 wins you could then say we won 11 games in the last 2 years with almost all HCDB recruits and then you would have to say we’ve gone backwards from when we had 15 wins with half of shafers recruits. That 10 win season skews things with this conversation and actually makes Shafers recruiting look pretty good.

*12

5+7=12

The 10 win season was all because of Dungey I've been told who was not a Dino recruit

Agree with that logic, but for Dino to publicly say there will be changes I think it goes out the window. It's best to remove the uncertainty as early as possible, no? Don't know how many kids commit because of their prospective position coach, but why leave open the possibility of any negative recruiting if you can remove any doubt?
Babers is going to be on the road recruiting, starting to do in-homes tomorrow. Probably going to visit all the kids currently committed and others that they are still recruiting. This is the priority right now. Finishing the 2020 class and getting kids signed 12/19.

I agree with the 1st part. It’s better, but not great yet. Shafer deserves credit for ED - he was an impact recruit at a position that tends to do that. But other than him - last season was like 90% Babers guys.

Story is not over on a lot of these guys - JR/SR year will tell us more.

Cisco is his. Ravian Pierce was his.

He also had Qadir White and Cornelius Nunn.

I actually think the IMG connection was Brian Ward. I’ll have to look it up. Ward got Mikel Jones. None of those other guys has produced. I think Ruff and Bear are the two best at this point. Rumor that both Sharod and DClarke have left. Dixon never made it. The big DEnd recruit got booted. I’m hoping Cam Jonas gets run but he didn’t play this year. Cole and Munoz seem promising. He’s so far picked up Hanna and Latarie Kinsler. The WR Poitier might be his to but he’s a Canadian. So results are very mixed at this point. A lot like the other coach a few years ago who got us Ish and very else in terms of actual production.

Don’t disagree. My point is that we still need to step up recruiting overall even though it’s better than it was under Shafer. We have some nice players. I’m okay with some of these guys needing 2-3 years to shine. It is what it is, we aren’t grabbing 4-5 star players. We need to re-evaluate our recruiting: where we are focusing our efforts and getting some coaches in to hit those areas.

Would be a shame if Clarke left after everything he did to get here

I’m pretty sure Clarke was on the sidelines yesterday in street clothes.

You're assuming he was welcome to come back. We don't know that. Transfers happen for all kinds of reasons.

Clarke and S.Johnson didn't travel to either Duke or Louisville.

Don't know if it's injury related, or coach's decision.

If Clarke is injured, it would make sense he didn’t travel and was in street clothes yesterday. Sure looked like him but I’m not sure.

Is this Clarke in the lower left corner?
