Dino Press Conference | Aug 31

I did not want to introduce needless speculation by bringing this up but the interview confirms it in my eyes.

Pay attention to the player interviews, who’s giving interviews and who’s not. The RB positions been non-represented in these interviews, and it’s of no surprise now.

And this could just be the beginning. Wonder if any other key players might opt out.

Agreed 144%. Not that we don't want Abdul and/or Jarveon to play.

Glass half full - Jawhar gets a lot more snaps, Markenzy Pierre shows off the running form (sans the ball control issues that landed him in Dino's doghouse) from Frosh year, and maybe one of the other guys like Tucker gets a chance to shine.
Correct, I hate to lose anyone (though I am proud of the kids to have courage to make a decision they think is best even though there are obviously huge costs)

However, if there was ever a position we could best withstand this, its RB. You could envision a scenario where a Jaguar/Pierre 50-50 split of carries could challenge, or even eclipse the production of Adams/Howard.

The biggest problem is the effect on depth, as if we get an injury to J/P, we would have to go to a freshman...

Wonder if this could lead to SU being in some more predictable offensive sets from a personnel perspective.

Offense likes to have a physical, up the middle runner (at least pre-Sterlin) to complement the speed to extend sideline to sideline. Elmore may end up being a fascinating puzzle piece to force some offensive advantage via personnel, either as a lead blocker for Jawhar or a single back set as an extra protector with Jawhar swung out wide.

Will be fascinating to see how the RB's handle protections. Not a lot of game experience now entering this year in that spot.

Would like to see Elmore stay off-ball.

Hell, out of the box thought if we’re really screwed, put Coley at RB. He ran play for play vs Stevie Scott while at FM and put up some video game number albeit against poor competition.

Has there not been reports here about Howard practicing?
This is one of the killers of not having any media access - the reporters can't see who is doing running back drills, for exampke.

Exactly

Quickly checked out their OC. Interesting path.

Reporter: Coach, where are Abdul Adams and Jarveon Howard?
Dino: You'll have to ask them

Reporter: Can we have access to Abdul Adams and Jarveon Howard?
SU AD: No, this is a HIPAA issue.

I'm not sure about HIPPA, but I highly doubt they're getting in touch w/ them.

I don’t expect anymore . except for severe fear of covid a player would be a fool to opt out . It’s a free chance to show your stuff for the next level or earn a spot or just get better . If you opt out you are out of everything, meetings , training etc

If JJ is as good as I think he is, they could get Wally Pipped.

And I think Tucker is no joke too.

Markenzy, Jaguar, and Tucker in some combination is not a terrible Plan B.

Don't forget about Lutz. Truthfully, RB is the least of my worries.

I agree, still would have loved to see Lutz in the slot as we need talent to step up there. Instead, he is buried in the rb depth chart.

Thought it was a mistake bulking Jarveon up personally, his strength is quick decision making in the hole, and he was slow enough on highend speed as it was. Adams needs holes that Mack trucks can get through, that was fine at Oklahoma, but our line isn't going to do that consistently.
On the other hand; Jordan is electric, and Pierre is and has been the best physical specimen of the rbs, so don't think it will be a huge hit once they get some carries under their belts...

Hope to see Elmore only in limited packages in short yardage situations. Regular usage in the O and using one of 11 previous positions for him isn't favorable.

He was buried deeper on the slot WR depth chart.

Agree, but that was on paper. Not too impressed with the wr development and both slot positions seem wide open. Think he could have made an impact.

This will be true all over the conference.
To say it will equally impact every team in the conference the same isn't true. I'm going to think it will impact the weaker and shallow teams much more. We just won't know until all this goes public conference wide.

I'm not happy that Adams and Howard might not play this year but I'm kinda glad Markenzie will get a shot. I think he could surprise a lot of people.

Part of the reason why he is at RB is because he was buried on the slot depth chart.

Yup, understand that and he was never given a shot to play his natural position. Just am opinion but feel he had a shot to make an impact at wr given our poor development of wr talent the last 3-4 years.
