Dino Press Conference | Aug 31

Yup, understand that and he was never given a shot to play his natural position. Just am opinion but feel he had a shot to make an impact at wr given our poor development of wr talent the last 3-4 years.

Also - he was a RB his whole HS career.
RB *is* his ‘natural position’.

Interesting. What makes you feel like he wasn’t given a shot and that he doesn’t have more of a chance to contribute at RB?

Good point, I have no info other than instinct and heart and given our wr situation and struggles, guess I fell in love with the initial idea of slot wr. Along the same lines, loved the idea of benson at wr. For some crazy reason, people have considered him a 215# te from the start. Loved his speed and physicality at wr, but...the powers that be think he can add 30-40# and maintain his speed.

Benson is listed at 230-something now.
As a Soph.

He’s only like 5-10lbs less than Hackett, at the same height.

He doesn’t need to get to 250.
Hackett is solid for us in the high 230’s/low 240’s

I’d listen to the powers that be. ;)

Reporter: Coach, where are Abdul Adams and Jarveon Howard?
Dino: You'll have to ask them

Reporter: Can we have access to Abdul Adams and Jarveon Howard?
SU AD: No, this is a HIPAA issue.

The idea that they couldn't simply tell us what they player's current status was is ridiculous. This type of run-around is unprofessional.

Those are all good thoughts. We all have our favorites coming in and we root for them to get on the field and contribute in the ways we envisioned them when they committed. One thought on Benson. Maybe the staff figured we had too many 6’3 guys that were at similar speed of Benson. Then you add Barron and Alford that are 6’4 and 6’5. Just a thought.

Probably been addressed in another thread, but assuming Adams and Howard have opted out how is that handled by the team? Would they still have access to the facilities/training rooms, etc. consistent with a "normal" redshirt year? Reading into what Dino said it sounds like they are not being considered part of the team as of right now.

I agree, still would have loved to see Lutz in the slot as we need talent to step up there. Instead, he is buried in the rb depth chart.
My fellow streeler fan let me shine some light . We are very very deep in the slot .
Our WRs as a whole are talented and very deep . We don’t have A+ WRs right now but we have lots of B+ guys that as a whole can preform like A’s .

They don’t have access to anything if they opt out . Think about it if your opting out due to covid fears why would you feel safe being around the team or staff who is at risk

Love JJ. Kid has elite speed. He also weighs 165 pounds. Creative play calling gets him 20 to 25 touches with maybe 10 to 15 running? Another 5 to 7 screens. Maybe 2 or 3 on reverses/counters? 165 pounds can only take so many hits.

Dino is not going to disclose who is opted out. Why give your opponent an advantage.
Dino never give anything up. This is perfect situation for him. No media at all. It’s not like the local media ever does anything positive for the team.
concerning Adams and javon we will see in two weeks. Maybe their injured. Maybe they have opted out. Maybe their transferring and using this year as a sit out. Maybe they will be starting at nc. The one thing we know is nc will have to prepare for them either way.

Barring ball security issues I see no reason to think Tucker won’t receive touches. FR Moe did, FR Jarveon did, so did Markenzy.

He will be a factor, by talent or force.

Frosh Erv Phillips did too, in another world.

But yes - Dino will absolutely play a Frosh RB if the kid forces his hand, or circumstances otherwise allow.

And this year is a freebie for all, so don’t even hafta worry about 4 games.

I'll be very interested to see Tucker if he gets any snaps. Elite track speed and looks he's more of a one cut type RB vs dancing/shifting around.

Take this with a grain of salt, and it’s hard to say as a former RB, but I feel like the position is one of the most interchangeable on the field.

Assignment, alignment and technique... Get that square and you’ll find production from that position group.

Call me crazy, but I am never really worried about the RB position.

There's a reason they rarely go high in the NFL draft. Unless you're an absolute stud, there's very little difference between a lot of them.

If that's the lot of opt outs, I would consider us pretty lucky. Look at Wake Forest, for example.

20-25 is a lot. 12-15 carries is a solid number, 10-12 for RB2. Them you get 3-5 from the QB and RB3 apiece and that’s almost 40 rushes. Balanced attack at that # and we’re above our play count.

Play count high was 77 in a game last year, hit it twice. It was probably down a bit though from years prior.

The kids can waive HIPAA

This one surprises me. Maybe the kids have underlying health issues. Either way good for them if they take the year off as its their health and their decision. I would think that the O will become the Sean Tucker show by mid year.his film is impressive. Strength speed one cut back. Cant wait to see him.

This is meathead paranoid coach thinking.

I know Dino isn't immune to it but it's really stupid.

Eh, nobody hits you when you're sprinting into the end zone.

No it’s not the local Syracuse football media are negative to get clicks or attention.
The basketball media are afraid of JB and need access thus for the most part are a lot better.
If Dino didn’t hold any press conferences Outside of the weekly conference call it would be fine for me.
