Dino's Media Day Presser | 11 AM

I drove by yesterday to get my haircut at Nick & Joeys. Manley/Lally is under heavy construction with much of the old office building between The Melo Center and Manley being demolished. I assume that is what is driving the terrible audio conditions.
This is correct. Thanks for introducing some context into this sad thread.

i’m with Babers on the side it hurts depth until i’m proven wrong. Duce, Carter, Geer are tough losses for a “Developmental” program. Right now i don’t think any guy who transferred in has won their starting spot yet?9

Without checking the roster in detail, I’m guessing 1/4 to a 1/3 of the two deep are transfers. It hurts when quality guys go, and from a retention perspective SU is at a disadvantage with that set of guys, so Dino is right there, but overall the roster is better than it would be otherwise.

Considering the team lost four guys a year early to the league and four off the two deep to transfer, Shrader isn’t wrong that the team is still better overall than the last two seasons, two seasons where the team played at as high level as it has since the ‘90s until depth issues caught up.

I have no argument with GS’s assessment of the quality of this, or any team he’s played on. He’s a mature, measured leader of men.

The depth commentary he makes have run the course for me. I tune out when I hear them. It's his job after year 8 to get the depth. Either portal or JUCO .
I don't think Babers was complaining about the depth we have at all. He was asked a question about NIL / transfer rules and he said it affects team depth. Shrader stated we are much deeper than in the past which seems to be the case to me as well. I just think the starter talent at the top on D was hit a bit with the transfers of Chestnut, Carter, Geer and Linton. But depth should hopefully be a bit better on the OL because of the incoming transfers of Moore and Wouhlabaugh. We are in pretty good shape depth wise.

It is kind of interesting. I'm bullish on the defense still. If we still had Chestnut, Carter and Geer on top of what's currently on the 2 deep, that's pretty crazy.

We do need some of the transfers in to pan out.

Had those guys stayed, I truly believe Syracuse would be knocking on the top 25 door very very early into the season.

Still think it’s possible if we can complete an undefeated September

The biggest problem for SU has been not having a QB who could step in and run the Offense properly when the Starter goes down.

when guys stay you know what your depth is or think you know.. When you fill it in with other people you are hoping you filled your depth issues.

Its also an issue tons of teams are having, lets see who does the better job of filling the holes now..

That was literally the case from 95-99 with Mcnabb. He just had an unbelievable stroke of good luck avoiding injury. It also helps that he knew when to escape the pocket and avoid the cheap shots that GS has taken.

Yes, the most glaring issue has been at QB. But we have also been woefully thin in the OL, and last season our DL back-ups were young and undersized.

Now, the DL reserves have grown up, the OL brought in Reed, Wohlabaugh, and More, and the secondary brought in 3 transfers with good high school ratings and offers. Depth should be OK in those units.

Now about those QBs. Have to see live action.

He cuts a pretty good promo as well. Both he and Marlow have done very nice Romano chevy spots

There are like 6 people watching the pressers 20 times. I mean, if it was maybe 12 people I can see them actually giving a crap about perceptions running wild and actually doing something, but, like 6 people, I mean...c'mon man!

Neat site with lots of different types of videos. Watch it with the in-laws and you can all pick a topic that interests you to watch together. Pair it to the TV and turn the volume up.
Highlights of the 5 game losing streak.

I used to DJ weddings. Set up / take down is a PITA, even when you're efficient at it.

If they're doing construction in the room, that means there's a lot of dust, so any audio equipment that lives in that room has been removed - speakers, routing boxes, etc.

If they had the room for an hour before the presser, that means prioritizing set up for Dino's microphone and making sure the set up for routing sound off of the podium and into the feed camera works and also making sure the space is physically set up the way they want it.

Also, there's probably like 15 members of the media there, so it's not like there's 100 people that absorb sound and are talking quietly.

In short, it's not worth anyone's time to do extra work so 20 people on a message board don't have something to complain about for 15 seconds.

The press conference is broadcast live on the radio, used on sports reports on TV and put on Cuse.com and You-Tube, so it's not just about 20 people on a message board, or even the reporters present.

A visual producer, a documentarian, a news broadcast producer (who I actually TA'ed for), and a traditional journalist? No, how things look and sound on live TV has never been in any of their job descriptions.

You've really come to the crux of the issue. People on this board obsess over things making Syracuse "look bad", and they're things that NO ONE CARES ABOUT except for the people worried about it. Syracuse will look good if they win a lot and don't have a big scandal. End of story. How a press conference is executed will move the needle for no one.

Coaches are always saying: It's the little things that count. And public perception is not a little thing. If no one cares about something because it doesn't move the needle for them, that's when you get results like this.

Give me one example of someone who is not a Syracuse fan citing the lack of reporter microphones at a mid-week media availability as an example of Syracuse being a less than program.

They stream these pressers FOR Syracuse fans.

Don't they see the fans as customers?
The SID, whose job is it to interface with the media and who is responsible for the press conference? Probably not. He’s not marketing.

Also, stop equating what you want with what Syracuse SHOULD be doing. I’ve yet to see any evidence of how this makes Syracuse look “bad” beyond personal preference.

A lot of people would like to hear the questions. I don't think anyone has a 'personal preference' not to.

The point of the press conference is for the media to get questions answered and to get quotes/sound bites. Far more people are going to consume that on the local news or through Syracuse.com than are going to watch live or via YouTube (his Wednesday presser is up to 1,200 views).

Curious who "a lot" of people are. From a marketing standpoint, doing something to make 200 diehards 2% happier is not worth anyone's time, especially when there's no perceptible financial benefit from it. Better audio at a press conference is not going to convert a casual or actively dissuade anyone from not attending games.

This is just complaining for the sake of complaining because people have to always find something wrong.

If you are going to do something, do it right. Streaming the press conference is a service for the fans. The school obviously believes that the diehards are "worth their time". Regardless of how many 'hits' it gets on You-Tube, those watching deserve to know what the question was.
