Do we even realize what Coach K has on his bench?

What's your point? Re: Jackson I can't figure it out as I expressed. You do realize that Gillon (fortunately) was a last minute emergency add because we had like NO PG on the roster, right? Duke had beat us 3 out of 4 prior to the other night. I don't get your rant.

My point is a lot of the stuff that Boeheim is criticized for, Coach K could be criticized for(despite having way more talent) And we've beaten Duke two in a row. They haven't beaten us in a couple years...a season when like 2 current players were on our team.

I haven't seen a word about Coach K's failure to run an offense (50 points tonight and complete spazzing down the stretch against us) or failure to switch defense when getting crapped on(53 second half points on 70% shooting) or playing short benches.

I wish I took note of the names. But it's happened.

But "we play 7 every year." So does Duke though.

I just find it funny that they play a short bench(while having projected 1st rounders not even get in the game), choke down the stretch l, get lit up defensively while staying in the same defense, and lose whole scoring 50 points in back to back games...literally every criticism that people have been making of Boeheim. They have more talent though and aren't on probation, so good for them. And they're 5 time champs and just won it a couple years ago. But we did just beat them. For the second time in a row. And we've been to a final four more recently than them. Sometimes you'd think we'll never win another game again from reading here and they're the best team in the history of basketball, but a lot of the issues we complain about they have too.

Who knows. Some players like a Jeter are probably overhyped by recruitniks because they get a Duke offer or whatever. Jackson I thought would be like a Sulaimon at worst sooner than later but I don't know what's going on.

I think Boeheim has done a great job with the bench this year and last or at least maximizing what he has to work with lately. I'd rather not see Howard so I don't mind the even fewer bodies.

Personally, give me Arizona's players over Duke lately and Arizona has no F4 under Miller though they have come damn close and have been unlucky in certain instances. Arizona would CRUSH Duke like 7 or 8 out of 10 games, IMO.

As frustrating as this year has been at times I'd be much more so if I was a Duke fan.

Makes no sense. Studs go to Kentucky to play half the game at the most because he's promised 6 other studs the same thing. Studs go to Duke to not even play. Meanwhile Markelle Fultz is averaging 23 and 5 at Washington and is a top 2 pick. Hopefully so many of them stop all going to the same 2 schools.

Wonder if Q. Green was watching Gillon shine against Duke the other night? He could've ran the show here next year. Like 35 mpg, ball in his hands constantly run the show. At UK, he's another guy. And they'll have another guy coming in right behind him the following year.
Maybe he liked the Kentucky kids better

To be fair the Duke board thinks K has been awful this year.

I'm not making any excuses for K, but severe back pain, surgery, etc. is certainly no picnic. It obviously was an issue and affected him for weeks leading up to his surgery. Combined with a few key Duke players that have been injured early and throughout this season (now Allen as he didn't play yesterday due to an ankle issue) they just haven't had the benefit of their full roster playing together for an extended period of time. Clearly, it has had a significant effect. Just being objective and keeping it real.

edit: Oh yeah, and those 5 national championships.

The loss probably had nothing to do with playing in front of a huge, loud crowd on the road with a very young team, did it?
Talented or not, a freshman is still a freshman. Our guys have played a lot of games at this level and have been in a lot of tight games. Both coaches are great. We lose this game if it's in Cameron...

I think he has too. They stand far too much offensively and their defense always struggle to guard the perimeter. With that said, its bananaland to compare JB to Coach K. He's won 5 nattys and been to like 20 FFs. Not even close

I would imagine if you go to a Duke board you would probably see those criticisms. (Why you'd want to go to one is a different question)

For the short bench thing; Coach K is usually the first guy I bring up when people get on JB for it, so I'm with you on that one.

Well, Coach K certainly gets a lot better players. Not even close.

If Giles comes back next year he will be just like Grayson Allen. Against WF or ND I believe, Giles was sitting on the floor after a loose ball foul was called and play stopped and right in front of the ref. he drills the player in the back of the thigh with a get away me from elbow. The ref did not a thing and was looking right at him. It was a blatant elbow that should have gotten him a tech. at the very least.

Giles is coming off a major knee injury, no? Most people think he won't be fully ready until next season.

I'm surprised Jackson has not had that much of an impact. I saw some games of his in H.S. on ESPN against good competition (one against Battle) and he was outstanding. He's not a PG though.

Jeter was always overrated, IMO.

Fultz had a connection with Romar and his assistant from way back early on. He's an Under Armour kid, too. Francis and others know more about that recruitment.

They aren't all choosing Duke and UK. Arizona has a bunch of studs too. All those teams are reloading after losing some major players and are pretty much doing just fine. We're still crying about Tyler Ennis.
What about Bolden? I don't think he even played against us.

I think part of their problem on offense is they have no true PG.

We've got people who trash Boeheim for not playing his bench. And the recent guys he doesn't play enough? Everyone from Ron Patterson to freshman Tyler Roberson to Frank Howard, etc. going way back to Eric Williams and Ethan Cole. Do we see what Coach K has on this roster doing little and playing little???

Coach K has the #1 recruit Harry Giles coming off his bench averaging 4.9 points per game! He's got top 10 recruit Chase Jeter averaging 2.7 points and 2.6 rebounds per game! Top 40 recruit Javin DeLaurier averages 1.7 and 2.3. These are potential lottery picks this year(Giles) and in the next couple years(the other two). Yes, I know about the injuries. That hasn't mattered when some of you criticize Boeheim's short bench this year. So I don't care.

Frank Jackson was a borderline top 10 recruit and one of the best PG prospects not named Fultz, Ball, or Dennis Smith...and John Gillon is outplaying him(and half the board have spent the year trashing Gillon!)

We beat this team with multiple projected first round picks that don't even play! Coach K must really suck. Short bench and loses to a team with significantly less talent. The entire offense was passing the ball around the perimeter aimlessly and chucking 3's or letting the stud NBA player(Tatum) make a play. Horrible end of the game execution on the last possession as they pussyfooted with the ball on the perimeter, waited too long to go, and got a terrible shot. And the possession before, Allen jacked a deep three and bricked it. No defensive adjustments. The man to man defense gave up 53 points and 70% shooting in the second half and he just sits in that same man to man. He should retire now.
The game has passed K by.

Beat them last year as well.

Well, JB did say in his post game presser that he discussed with his buddy K pre-game how critical the game was and getting a W. I think that's why Duke missed so many early breakaway 3 on 1's in the first half they didn't convert on. It was K's way of doing a major favor for his bud and really nothing to do with the "basketball gods" as K eluded to in his post game presser. ;):)

What is the excuse for all of the other schools that can't recruit with Kentucky or Duke? You are trying too hard.
I dont even know what I am arguing here haha. I just saw a poster here trying to compare Coach K and JB. I dont think Coach K is an Xs and Os mastermind, but his emotional intelligence and his psychology with players is as good as ever. Boeheim isn't like that at all. Players like that and look up to that. As a result, that's how Coach K gets great players every year. Boeheim and Coach K's successes are not close. Coach K is far superior.
