I always enjoyed his posts and met him once at a CSNY concert at the Palace of Auburn Hills when I was still stuck in big eleven land.

He got frustrated by the way the board had changed. He didn't find it worthwhile to come here any more. He had no use for the sophomoric crxp that was becoming common place here (e.g., name-calling, threads full of nothing but half naked women and people trolling for tees).

That stinks...he was a good one

I agree with him on most of that.. No one likes sophomoric crxp, name calling or people trolling for likes.

I think he got tired of the nonsense and the no sense.

No one is required to click on every single thread, particularly when the vast majority of the types of threads referenced have almost always been kept to the off topic boards in the past. I have always valued Dick in Michigan's opinions but if that's truly his reason for no longer being here, it's pretty flimsy if you ask me. The ignore button exists for a reason. And beyond that, again, is the fact that you don't actually have to read threads that you don't think would interest you.

Personally, I only read the threads I want, and the posts and opinions of people I actually respect, for the most part. I'm not sure why that's so hard for others to do, frankly.

You can read what you want, and ignore what you want. To use that stuff as an excuse to leave is weak, to be honest. For the most part the discussions here during the season are worthwhile and relevant. Do people stray off topic now and then? Of course they do. Welcome to the internet. Hell, not just the internet, welcome to life. People go off on tangents all the time, and if a few people are engaging in a conversation that doesn't interest you, you know what? You don't have to listen.

Sorry, but not everyone is going to want to talk about the same things, and not everyone is going to have the same kind of humor, and not everyone is going to have the same uniform opinions. You come into a community like this and people are going to come from varying backgrounds and walks of life and different things will amuse them. You don't have to like it, but to use it as an excuse to leave seems kinda small and, frankly, elitist to me.

Stepping down off of my soap box now.

Preach it!!!

If only we had an off-topic forum on this board.
And that's why I mentioned that, for the most part, those sorts of threads have taken place on the off topic boards in the past. Yes some have strayed into the main boards, but again, I specifically mentioned the off topic boards in my post.

^^^^trolling for tees^^^^

I will just add that I think more than these things sour people on the board. Spend a day on the OT board and you can enjoy many insult driven threads that get far more personal than the sophomoric conjecture being referenced. I think that is just as fair game as anything. The delivery of a post can be just as off putting as the content of a post.

I hate to lose the insight of a quality poster in any case as getting different viewpoints.

I think you may find that if the omnipotence exhibited by some settled down that so would the sophomoric , light-hearted and call it juvenile stuff would too. Some of this immature fun pops up as a way out from the I am right because I am smarter than you and have posted longer than you stuff.

Also, I'd just like to throw out there...

Is it such a bad thing that posters like to have fun sometimes, rather than just being analytic all the damn time? God forbid people take a break from crunching numbers and discussing time and again zone versus man and how many players JB will go with in the rotation, and decide that some enjoyment is in order - which, judging by the number of people who participate and throw around "tees" - is an enjoyment shared by a whole lot of people.

Fun shouldn't be painted as a shameful thing.

Well said, thanks.

It's also really hard to discuss things when we've been winning so much the last few seasons. Every team forum I've been to is wayyy more active following losses. Why? Because people want to discuss why they lost and what they can do better. And a lot of people on this very forum run away from these discussions because they view it as trolling or being spoiled. But these are the best times to learn more about the team and the game.

If only we had a politics/current events board so the OT board could be random, sophomoric threads that I sometimes enjoy and other times ignore. I don't blame folks for steering clear of the OT board most days. Perhaps a smack talk board for things like "feel bad" threads, multiple posts other schools, etc as well? Would clean up a fair amount and leave those of us that enjoy them to our vices.

Agreed as long as politics go in the smacktalk forums as they are probably the worst of any :)

I agree. I mess around as much as anyone just to keep it light. Ignore button has come in handy for sure and noone is forcing people to read every thread.

He should come back.
