Does Hunt take another snap at QB?

So I guess all the Long fans are willing to ignore his terrible INT after the fumbled PR? This board would be killing Hunt for making the same play, so let's see a little bit more from Long before we declare Hunt's days over. I think Long should get the chance while Hunt is out, and he showed some good things, but let's all slowly step back.

Long is a true freshman in his first game ever. Hunt is not. Long played as well as Hunt has been, and has more passing touchdowns in one game.

he was trying to throw the ball away just didn't get it done

I'd like to see what Hunt can do with Lester calling the shots...oh wait we saw that against BC and Minnesota last year when everyone raved about Hunt's performance. I understand that everyone loves the backup QB and it's nice to be excited about Long's development, but to act as if he came in and locked down the job for the next 4 years is a bit crazy.

It's time to leave Hunt alone as the kid is on scheduled to graduate early in December and will begin to earn his second degree from Syracuse.

That is something to be proud of him of what he has accomplished here up at Syracuse.

Is is bad to say I hope he plays TE?

I don't think so. I hope he stays here and I hope he makes it to the NFL. But neither of those hopes are happening at QB for Hunt.

Hunt through 5 games has thrown 4 INT's and only one touchdown. Long has more TD's playing in 15 minutes than Hunt has in 4 games. That is reason enough to think he might be a better player.

Wilson has a cannon for an arm and made the same throw for an interception running to his left. Arm strength has nothing to do with it.

Most young players can't make that throw, that is due to not making that throw at D1 game speed...ever. With more experience, they will be able to make that throw.

I disagree. Wilson's throw had nothing to do with velocity - he just didn't see the safety. Arm strength had everything to do with AJ's - he couldn't reach the OB line! Even AJ said he couldn't get enough on it to get in OB. You can't coach arm strength.

I just love that all of you are now echoing my 'Hunt is a S or TE'.

Funny thing is, it wasn't his play that got you saying it, it was the play of his backups.

Again people please...leave the talent evaluating to the proven talent evaluators.

And when we speak...LISTEN to us and save us the time of useless, meaningless debate threads.
If you like Hunt as a safety you are certainly not a proven evaluator.

Funny thing about AJ's throw on that play was that he only had to throw it out of bounds about 8 yards, not 20. He was already way outside the tackle box.

THAT is coachable!

I think Hunt has a better chance of transferring to a FCS school and starting 1 year at qb then he does playing another position for us. No matter how unlikely all of these kids think they are going to the NFL. If he knows he isn't going to start next year he may take the year to show what he's got for NFL scouts (not saying he has a chance, but he does). But let's pull back just a bit. I am just as excited about AJ's performance as anyone. Let's just see how he does closing out this year once teams are able to make adjustments, and there is actually game pressure with defenses not playing as soft.

Tebow did switch to TE when he went to the Pats. It was an utter disaster
I am a diehard Pats fan he did not play TE or Hback he played QB and horribly in the preseason. His performance against Tampa in the preseason got him cut. I am sure BB would have had a package for him if he made the team but he was a bad QB.

He was trying to throw it out of bounds as he should have been. At least he made a good decision...poor execution. It was his first ever game so a comparison to Hunt who has played 1.5 years and how we would have responded is not exactly relevant.

Hunt wouldn't start for any another D1 program.

Lester and not MCD called the plays v BC & Minny???

Is that correct ?

That's why I was the 1st to put him at tight end.

Has been a board rumor that has never been substantiated.

I am highly skeptical.

Is that just the position for tall guys that play other positions?

Ron Thompson is a better TE now then Hunt could be after 4 years playing the position.

Big, tall, not fast guys, who can run with the ball after catching it.

I doubt he could block very well, but I'd imagine he could read at least the coverage in front of him to to find a lane and weak spot.

Also screen set up so the receiver was moving forward on the catch. To me, the offensive struggles were much more about coaching.

Coaching has nothing to do with screen set up so the WR was moving forward on the catch. QB accuracy does.

Offensive struggles had more to do with offensive execution at the QB position then coaching.

Coaching does not have as large an effect in 1 week as people seem to think. You can't just install a new system.

For me, jet sweep and the QB run off jet sweep is the only thing I hadn't seen previously this year.

And finally, for the last time (since i have seen this mentioned numerous times before) the playcalls were never for AAM to run east/west (on the zone reads). The reads were to hit the hole b/w the T and G. When that hole isn't there, the back bounces outside. Just because the RB runs somewhere doesn't mean that is where the play was called for.

Tosses are by definition outside.

On the screens with the running backs they took a different angle. They first angled back then ran slightly toward the LOS.

Players audible to what they have been coached to audible too.

I think the reads and system was pared down for the young qbs but would have been pared down regardless who was playing.

This was not a new system and was by no means perfect. But the execution was improved. Also can't argue with the fact that before yesterday PTG was averaging 10 touches per game.

i would like these posts 1000 times if I could. Pump the brakes a little. AJ could be the second coming of Mcnabb or the second coming of Cecil the diesel. He also made some mistakes. overall he did surprise me with his play but need to see more.

Did long ago, sport.

Took tons of heat for it.
I am not your sport. But that is your style. You say two things - one is really stupid and the other not. Bump the one that is not stupid and foret the stupid one. Only this time you bumped them both. Anyone that thinks any player is either a TE or a Safety must be talking about some other game.
Also, who knows if Hunt can catch or jump not to mention block!
Leave the evaluations to the coaches - they know what they are doing.
