Doris Burke

I just get tired of the "how to beat the zone" spiel she and the usual cast of color commentators that have handled SU games for years treat us to. It almost makes me long for the ACC announcers that can't pronounce our names but sure are impressed by the team, as well they should be.-VBOF

Gus is awesome!! Don't understand why people didn't like him you can't have bilas every game.

yeah he said some corny things but they fit the players who had swag, and he highled our brand of basketbal as exciting instead of just stats. He was nothing but good to us.

Doris is a card-carrying member of the "We're Going to Show You This Replay and I'm Going to Insist You're Not Seeing What the Video Shows" color commentators club, founded by Len Elmore.

So I don't like that aspect of her broadcasts.

I disagree, she knows the game very well.

Mike Patrick is SIGNIFICANTLY worse, and it isn't close.

Patrick is worse, yes. However, you are comparing apples with oranges. Patrick is a play by play guy. Doris is a "colorman" (analyst). In the interest of full disclosure, at our Cuse bar in NYC, I said to one of the boys, "Doris Burke is doing this game? In retrospect, I think it is because the assignments came well over a month ago (who would have thunk 2 Big East teams would be tied for first at 4-0). But just watched most of the game again on DVR (was hard to hear anything at our Cuse bar), and she was not only fine, but pretty solid (much better than some of the more famous people like Vitale).

Okay, this was the first post I responded to, but did anyone mention that the Pearl was watching with us at the same NYC bar (chatted with him a couple times---good times!!!).

Edit: (at 4:42 mark left in the gm)-- Doris just said that "Syracuse came in as one of the most dangerous offensive rebounding teams in the country". Say what????? (okay, never mind...)

Edit #2: (in post-game interview with JB)--- he actually just referenced the Pearl (while talking to Doris about Ennis). This is way too bizarre---do do do do--definitely Twilight Zone!

He's fine when you're pulling for the underdog. Otherwise not so much.
When St. John's scored 2 baskets in a row against us you would've thought the 4-0 "run" was the Bills vs Oilers in '92.

Ian Eagle -- most underrated play by play guy -- finally getting recognized for is work--- probably most versatile sportscaster in the business - does football , basketball, golf, tennis all at an extremely high level

He's great -- and by all accounts a good guy -- but Mr. Versatility (and good at what they do) is Tirico. McDonough is in the conversation.

Definitely Tirico. He's amazing. He does it all. If espn/ABC had the Olympics, he'd be doing downhill skiing and speed skating

I don't mind Burke but I remember she did a Cuse vs Lville game and she would not stop talking about Pitino. It was ridiculous. I think she has a crush.

I thought Doris was good today and enjoy her insight. I also think Beth Mowins does a good job as well even though Doris is a little better. Sometimes Doris tries too hard to be funny when its not needed but otherwise does well imho. 1000 times better than listening to patrick and ellis call out random names.

My problem with Burke is that she's squeezing cotton balls next to her bottom molars. Looks and sounds weird. What she says is fine

She knows her chit. Give her some credit

Never heard of chit before. I usually go with the little man in the boat

Her voice is the reason I can't stand listening to her.
I was thinking that yesterday, she sounds like Miss Jane from the Beverly Hillbillies. Really not being negative on her by that comparison, its that Brahmin, Vassar, Back Bay, came over on the Mayflower voice, (even though shes from LawnGuyland.)

agreed. It was almost like 95 percent of the telecast was about pitt and how perfectly suited they were to defeat us. they went out of their way to compliment us here and there, but the majority of focus was on pitt and what they were doing

Minor complaint, but I thought the telecast was pretty lopsided. .that has nothing to do with Doris and how knowledgeable she is, and everything to do with observation of the telecast.
Right on. I normally don't have a problem with Doris and these kinds of things don't bother me, but yesterday it was extremely apparent and quite annoying.
