I went to my first basketball game last night since 2022-23. Teenage kids will do that to you, but this year I haven't wanted to because of the product. But my son and his friend wanted to see Flagg, so I took the family tix and went. I was reminded why I love this program so much. The dome, fairly decent (and surprising) crowd, entertaining basketball. The team showed energy for about the first 12-15 minutes...then the push at the end of the half by Duke and you could see the players were deflated. Game over. It's sad to see. I had zero expectations of a win and honestly figured it would be around a 20 point loss. But the lack of any defensive discipline and missed wide open looks (both 3's and 2's) just show how far we have dropped. I am in the camp that we need to make a complete cultural change, but I am now starting to believe it wont happen. This school, administration has its head buried in the sand and doesn't have the stones to make a bold move...excuse me, they did with Fran and it worked...hmmmmm. I'd rather suffer a few more seasons like the last few years with a coach that actually teaches D and offensive flow. WHile the talent gap was huge last night, there is no reason why our team couldn't apply the same defensive principles and effort that Duke gave. Get the right coach in here and these boosters will come crawling back.
