Duke Postgame

Let me just point out that Eric Devendorf used to drive to the left and use his right hand to finish, too.

JJ is not an all-time great SU player, but who is playing well enough to take his minutes?
I'll wait.
Not to pile on but I agree with those that have refuted your take on Devendorf’s left hand. I’d guess that he had well over 100 left-handed finishes in his career. JJ, I would guess, has had only a handful.

Devo was an Absolute Magician (tm) at finishing at the rim w his left hand.
So much so, you'd think he was a lefty.

The next time JJ finishes with his left, with be the first time.
I literally don't think I have EVER seen him attempt a shot at the rim (or anywhere else) w his left.

Which has led to him getting swatted on multiple occasions;
where had he used his L, the defender wouldn't have been able to get to the ball, as it would be shielded by his body.

I know. I know he’s got me blocked because of our interactions on the other board, but I couldn’t let that nonsense stand.
Good on you for jumping on that comment as quickly as you did. In my opinion, Devo was one of the best off-hand finishers (if not the best) since I started watching 'Cuse hoops in 1985. To suggest that Devo often drove left but finished with his right is insane...

Lol… um Devendorf used to have one of the best lefty finishes of any player we’ve had. What a strange comparison.

I see others have already replied about this. Thankfully.

If he wasnt here we could’ve gotten someone better with his funds. We’re paying him like a starter when he’s a bench player.

I'd like to have a better shooting guard, and a bigger center, too. But this is who they bought.

This just isn’t true. He touches the ball before others can get involved. It happened multiple times the other night.

Look, George was in the game for 33 minutes against Duke. For most of that time, more than 3/4s of the game, George handled it first.

He fired up 3’s when Kingz was open. I specifically remember calling it out in the game thread.

They both shot 2-5 from three, and Starling had 4 assists in 26 minutes. How much was he gunning?

Maybe you just wanted him to make that pass, and maybe he should have, but maybe he thought he was open.

That's basketball. It's not nefarious.

He also came out at the start of the game firing early in the shot clock. Again, I blame Red. He’s been blinded by this the entire time he’s been here.

I saw went thru the play-by-play on ESPN

1st possession - JJ asst to Kyle for dunk after 18 seconds (w 30 sec. shot clock).

Next Poss: Duke shoots FT, Starling misses floater in the lane after 23 seconds of possession (i.e. 7 left on the shot clock).

Next Poss: Starling makes a 3 on initial pass from George. Poss was 11 seconds - early shot but made it.

Next Poss:: JJ missed jumper from 17 feet after 17 seconds of possession.

Next Poss: Kingz misses 3 pointer at the shot buzzer

Next Poss: George misses layup after 16 seconds.

Next Poss: Kyle blocked shot, Starling rebound, pass to Donnie on fast break, misses 3 pt shot after 7 seconds of possession.

(Fast shot missed, when he could have driven to the rim on the break and try to draw a foul).

Same poss: JJ gets offensive rebound, Freeman makes jumper after 20 seconds (i.e. at the buzzer on the reset)

Next possession - Kyle block, George rebound, pass to Kingz for fast break dunk - 6 second possession.

Next poss: JJ missed a 3 after 19 seconds of possession. That's the first six minutes of the game.

Your feeling about his play (i.e. early shots in the clock) doesn't stand up.

Maybe later, but when the game was still competitive, much of it was because of JJ and Kyle.

Surprised you criticize other posters after you were 100% wrong on Devo not being able to finish With his left hand

The game was not competitive because of JJ. When it was 29-24 Kingz had 8 and Kyle had 6 with multiple blocks. Look at the game thread here. If I didn't know any better I would think you're his uncle.

I wonder if Coach K would choose him as the one player to be in a fox hole with him?!
Nothing for nothing, they’re was multiple AC’s under K that left for other jobs throughout the years, Scheyer though? Nope. Dukie through and through. After playing for the blue devils he played some overseas ball for a few years then went right back to duke in 2014 as an assistant and here we are today, he was named the associate head coach before Covid I believe 2019 season. Something tells me that the school, K and Jon all knew he was THE GUY.

Both of our Michigan products could finish with either hand. DC was good at it also.
