Ed Orgeron thread...

He would be a fantastic choice. I really think that he would light up the Dome and the donors and fans would love him. Guy can flat out coach and recruit. He has reminds me of a southern Mac

Bud is such a tool i refuse to read anything that he writes. What bs came off his pen this time
 
I am skeptical on this one. He is a guy you would want to have a beer with, but he has made his career almost exclusively on recruiting from the DL spot. This guy doesn't scream program builder to me. I could see him overseeing a program that has been established, but I question if he has the toolbox to rebuild one. 30 years and never having been a coordinator is a screaming red flag IMHO.
 
SU would be making the same mistake all over again if they hire this guy. A defensive guy with no successful head coaching experience (don't even mention USC). He's not what the chancelor or Coyle is looking for. Personally, I want no part of this guy.

Why can't we mention his most recent (interim) HC gig?
He did a solid job there, and was apparently well-regarded by the players.
You cant pretend that didn't happen.

That's like saying, we won't consider hiring Bill Belichick, based on his Cleveland HC results (don't even mention the Patriots).
It appears that he learned something from his first go-round, and did a much better job in his next one.

His record as a HC speaks otherwise. I dont think we our in a position to be giving coaches second chances.

If he was so great, why didn't USC keep him? Why hasn't anyone else ever hired him? If he's so great, why hasn't he even been hired as a coordinator? He isn't the answer.

Agreed. If he was a candidate there would be no need to lobby for it. He is more than likely not even on the radar.

Had they beaten UCLA he might have had an outside shot, but I don't think so. Haden wanted Sark from day 1.
He is not my first choice, but I would not be unhappy if it is him.
 
I'm mostly ambivalent on him as a HC, but wildly enthusiastic as HC/DC. But if I'm not mistaken, wasn't his name always preceded by "Crazy"? Am I misremembering that?

SB Nation has us ranked 11th of the 13 jobs out there so far. We are likely to drop further very soon. I am preparing myself for missing on the hot names and looking at names that want the job. Not too many come to mind.

If nothing else it adds some buzz to the hiring process. Top story on both coaches search pages.

If the candidate pool is Orgeron, Frost, Sanford that should hold the current recruits attention.

They've all watched Blindside, they all know about Oregon and ND.
 
Beware of the shiny toy as well. We need to nail this and I have no problem w former players lobbying. They have a certain perspective others don't have.
 
After his experience at the Ole Miss, Orgeron decided to approach his second stint as a head coach differently. Instead of resuming the intense aggressiveness he had used as a defensive line and head coach, he used a different approach this time. Orgeron applied behavioral techniques he had used on his own teenage children, in an effort to approach his USC players "like my sons".[21]
