Ed Orgeron thread...

I would talk to him, see where he is at and what his current philosophy is. What would he plan to do on offense, etc. Talk in depth about his time at U$C.

He got his second chance at coaching here, under P, back in the 90's. Would be a fun coincidence if he got his second chance at HC here as well.

If nothing else, the signing-day recruiting dinners would be epic.

My take on Orgeron:

His candidacy is being pushed by the former Syracuse player militia.(with whom I'm frankly growing tired of).

Coyle will gives these types of suggestions their due attention before hiring his own guy.
While I agree with almost everything you say on this board, we did miss one player recommendation twice: Steve Addazzio.

A Rob Konrad recommendation.

I've heard of him be referred to as the best recruiter in the country. The fact that people don't want him on here because he is not an offensive mind or because he was bad at Ole Miss who was bad in the SEC for a while is pretty shortsighted in my opinion. I keep hearing people tour the freshman class that Shafer has as being great. Quite frankly I haven't been very impressed. Bottom line, if you can get a dynamite recruiter to come to a downtrodden ACC program like Syracuse you have to do it.

As bad as our offense was this year, we averaged 10+ more points this year and with even last year's defense we win a lot more games. Last year's defense allowed 25 pts per game. This year's offense has averaged 27.

Maybe a good recruiter can bring in some good complimentary offensive players and fix the defense.

100% for EO if we cant get babers, frost, fleck, every other D1 offensive coordinator, every other mid major offensive HC, any middling nfl offensive hack, etc

One thing Bebe has is a large network of possible assistants. He wanted to hire Lane Kiffen as OC at Ole Miss so at least he wanted to play a wide open modern offense.

While I prefer an offensive HC we could do an awful lot worse than Coach O.

In many ways he is a safer choice than a coordinator with no HC experience.

True hes had his first head coaching shot to learn from mistakes.

If nothing else it adds some buzz to the hiring process. Top story on both coaches search pages. If the candidate pool is Orgeron, Frost, Sanford that should hold the current recruits attention. They've all watched Blindside, they all know about Oregon and ND.

Yep. Exactly the kind of press this job needs.

No one thinks we're swimming in a Saban/Meyer pool, but we're also not looking for the best no name on the cheap.

i wonder if matt patricia thinks that troy nunes is helping his cause.

Everyone so fixed on offense while we gave up 500yds how many times this year? 40+pts how many times this year?
But this was the first year we've really struggled on defense overall, though, under Shafer. Just last year we had a top 25 or so defense. The only reason we struggled so much there was that we lost 8 starters. Defense was never really the issue with Shafer as DC or HC until this year. Offense, however, was a massive problem.

I think this is more realistic than people realize.
I don't think EO is a viable P5 head coach candidate this time around, but a good 1-2 year stint as a AHC/DC would probably change that

You're kidding right? Am I the only one that thinks it is weird that we are trying to find the AHC/DC before the HC is named? Unless this process is already in the advanced stages and Frost has agreed in principle, how can Coyle be vetting his potential running-mates?

While it would be amazing if it happened, the HC should pick his staff, not the AD.
