Fire Autry

Again this was the only way to get JB out without him going scorched earth on the way out. Red will be replaced in March barring an unexpected tourney bid.
Let him go scorched earth. What does that really mean? Seriously. Did he have blackmail photos? Genuinely curious what JB could do that was worth hiring an unqualified candidate and prolonging the misery and apathy of the dwindling fan base.

I’m not going to judge anyone’s parenting here. At the same time, a team doesn’t need to be a perennial final 4 contender to make it a family activity.

It’s a bummer that SU has been mediocre for a decade. It’s was avoidable, and tough decisions needed to be made in the wake of our second probation.

But if you needed the team to be great to use it as a bond, let me suggest that the kids were never going to be into it anyway.
Oh, we bond over the IDEA of it. They have a bunch of clothing and have been to men’s basketball, women’s basketball, and football games. There just isn’t much joy in the actual watching of the games. I also live five hours away so we’re not regularly going to games. It’s just sad to have bad season after bad season.

I can’t see a top 25 team let alone a championship contender.
The way we played against Houston, Kansas, ISU first half, and then Tennessee gave me a great deal of hope for the year. Barnes, the UT coach, praised our defense. The last 2 games have been so disappointing.

One small silver lining, potentially - there were so many high profile HC changes last year, and Hubert seems to have stabilized UNC so far this year. SU may be the preeminent opening come season end... hope to the big man the University does it right in March 26
The problem with waiting until the end of the season is Red is just digging a deeper hole for the program.
Anyone on the outside looking in has to feel looking at the last 11 years that this program has collapsed.
Any good coach has to feel that this is a losing situation as long as JB is around.
If JB was someplace like Florida, Arizona, or California it might be easier to get a good coach.

I don't think it helps to do it midseason. He is a good man. The administration doesn't want to create a circus around Autry. And any coach we would be looking to bring in would be currently coaching another program anyways. It's not like they would start in February. But word would certainly get around the coaching fraternity that the program is hunting for the right hire. Any coach with ambition will know there is a >50% chance this job is open come springtime. I am sure that word is already circulating, and back channel chats including inbound, are percolating.

I hear ya. It’s a shame. If SU made the tough but necessary decision to move on from JB after 2016 this may have been avoidable.
2019+ may have been better but I worry Hopkins didn’t have the flexibility to do any better than JB. Even at Washington he stuck with the 2-3 way too long and squandered talent. We might just need to recognize that JBs coaching tree isn’t all that good

I do wonder if the circus is already starting and it’s going to get more and more difficult for Autry having to answer questions about his future the longer this drags this year.

I’m usually furious after a loss, especially this type of loss. Right now I’m not. Almost feels like ripping the bandaid off.
This is the right take as compared to the other losers pushing their agendas here and just to say told you so to gloat.

Autry got his chances. He has put himself in win out mode. We’ll watch but we know better that no one can just flip the switch to make that happen. Even Freeman coming back as much of a nice to have that will be will not put us over the top in the ACC.

Over the top? We’re more likely to be contending with Pitt and FSU for the bottom I fear. I’ve defended Red til now but he’s gotta go.

i stand corrected. THIS is the dumbest thing ive ever heard. Name one reason why red shouldn’t have been hired over GMac. You laid out exactly why he was hired but threw in a bit of race baiting on top of it thinking it proves your point
1. Because Adrian Autry can’t coach and is living off of his playing days.

I was on the alumni board and saw this play out over 10-15 years.
Enough from the peanut gallery.

The associate HC was promoted to replace a fading legend and the decision was at least a year in the making. I got ripped for telling everyone Red was the hire in 2021. Sometimes it’s pointless posting what actually happened here because the loudest voices need to promote their agenda.
