Fire Autry

Josh Schertz
Tony Skinn

Bryan Hodgson (I think he will get interviewed 100%)
Chris Mack (We 100% should interview because P4 experience)
I think this is the list with maybe Murray added on. Schertz or Skinn should be made a priority because they have proven they can win as head coaches. Mack has as well, but was several years back and has some blemishes on his resume. Hodgson has won but not as consistently and impressively as Schertz and Skinn. He can recruit, but nowawadays money is doing the recruiting so not sure how much that matters. Murray seems like an offensive mastermind but can he lead a program? Don’t think we are in a spot where we can take a chance on someone who hasn’t proven that already. I’m all in on Schertz or Skinn at this point.

I agree that’s the list but I’d have Halloaway over Murray

This will come off badly probably but we Need to get whichever coach is most sought after by a competing top P5 program also on the hunt.

It’s going yo be pricey but gotta spend money to make money right.

No time to overthink this and get cute.

Someone has to explain the Hodgson obsession. I do not get it.
Small connection to SU as he used to coach at JB’s camps. From upstate NY (southern tier). Nate Oates coaching tree so some think he’ll be an adequate substitute for Oates as many wanted him to replace JB and we’re never getting Oates now.

Also, apparently has connections to Lally and other boosters.

However, I think there are better options out there this year, but you never know as he could be a viable candidate if he’s able to make USF a winner this year (albeit unlikely).

Correct lots of connections so I think he will get an interview. I don’t think he will be the best option but I imagine an interview will please all the connections he has.

They need to try and get the single best coach we can get that isn’t part of the Boeheim royal family tree. I’d make an exception for Dick Pitino but he’s not leaving Winged Foot.

Whole thing is sad. This isn’t football. I thank Boeheim for the expectations being top 10 level.

Everyone keeps acting like this was actually JW choice. JB went out kicking and screaming. Only way to keep him from blowing everything up was hiring an assistant. JB may have wanted Jerry over Red but he was not going to accept an out of program hire. Hopefully the BOT tells JB he has no say on the next coach.
Like they should have done the first time. There are some soft people on the hill calling the shots.

144% THIS.

And frankly, as respectable job as GMac is doing at Siena, he also would’ve been a TURRIBLE hire for Cuse.

There are only 3 reasons you ever do a continuity hire:

Your program is humming along, and you want to keep stability.
(See: Duke)

You need to get rid of a HOF HC who is clearly past his expiration date, and it’s the only way to make him go “quietly”.

Your program is notoriously cheap and lazy when it comes to HC hires.
(See: Scott Shafer)

We weren’t option 1 for over a decade, so we doubled down on 2 & 3.

Now it’s time to pay the piper.

Full national search.
Best possible HC candidate.
Pay at or above market rate.

We got a discount from JAB for decades, and Red better not have been paid big $.
Time to play and pay like the big boys were supposed to be in hoops.

When I hear the Clemson guards yelling ‘Iso’ on half the plays after Kyle hands the ball off to one of the guards that’s all we need to know about our ‘offense’.

Every game I tell my wife that the first play will be JJ running around the baseline and curl around the foul line and try one of his floaters. It’s kind of funny actually - they started the 2nd half with the same play.

As good as Donnie was down the stretch he also was partially responsible for getting us in a hole to begin with - took a bit to shake the rust off which is why he should have played a little in the last couple of games.

As far as coaching I’m not beating a dead horse here - they know they are toast. I’d keep Alex as GM as he found these guys and it’s a portal world we live in now and we have to find guys like Betsie and Kyle who were lost on the bench for their former teams but can play. Betsie is a head scratcher to me - he needs to play more - how he’s on the bench on the last possession when we need a three blew my mind.

JB being allowed to do what he did towards the end of his career was a total joke, especially allowing his other son to transfer into SU along with a few other things.
I agree 100%, but Autry is in his third yr. Is JB drawing up the plays for Red? These are his guys and his staff, and he has not been good enough.

I think you have to be a subscriber to read (but not positive) but pretty good piece from Brent

I tend to place little value on press conferences. But compare Brownell's comments to Red's and I think it's telling.

Maybe Red is a different guy in practice. Maybe he cogently explains his concepts to the players. But in his pressers he tends to be a rambling mess.

I wouldn't be surprised if he *knows* what he wants to accomplish but can't teach that well enough to his players. It sure would back up Jake 's observations he posted last night.

He’s not defending red, he’s just being nice. You don’t talk bad about other teams coaches. If you read between the lines you can tell he’s just making stuff up
Yeah, Red's a likable guy and I'm sure other coaches don't want to pile on when he's going through it.

Brownell just latched onto the "But Freeman's back!" narrative that some here are still pushing. Yes, we'll be better with Freeman. No, ultimately it won't matter.

Exhibit A: yesterday.
