You can disagree with what he did, but this being the first time he has EVER been thrown out of a game in nearly 40 years carries a lot of weight with me.
Did he overreact? Probably, yes. Do I understand why he did it? Absolutely.
And as has been said: We have a 5.5% chance to win the game after the charge call. A 50+% chance if the goal is counted. The T's didn't have as much to do with the loss as the call did.
