For those of you obsessed with attendance

Maybe cuse would charter this if it was PAID

But they are absolutely never going to do something free like that.

It’s absolutely insane to think anyone would do that.
Probably right. The precedent I worked off of involves Indian gaming casinos in Santa Barbara CA. They provide free transportation from Los Angeles area to their businesses. About 95 miles one way. I realize gambling is very different; but, for SU, that needs more of a fan base, maybe a fee could be worked into the purchase price to help cover some of the cost.

Absolutely, or SU will be asked to be indemnified as the minute there was an accident SU would be the first institution sued. Again there's a reason why no school does this.
just saying, Cornell runs a bus from nyc to ithaca almost every day of the year and never heard of liability issues being a reason to not do it..

Schools dont have to doing it themselves.

alabama game bus

I know, facts are difficult to face...as they say, the truth hurts.

But go ahead, carry on with your childish utterances along with your ensuing subjective opinions when it comes to what we were last year. Moreover, what we are and have been for some two decades now. Which, is the crux of this thread and, overwhelmingly, the most significant factor in why attendance is what it is.

‘there’s nothing subjective about it. I’ve posted in detail how the team was playing the first nine games.

and I was addressing a particular assertion.

i really don’t care about attendance. It’s down almost everywhere but the nfl And a handful of college programs.

So that's all it takes?
The OP to which I replied called people feckless if they didn't show up simply to see Sean Tucker. There are very few athletes who warrant that.

Have SU give a discount on tickets if the out of town fans are staying at the Casinos. Then work with the casinos to provide the buses, so SU doesn’t have to.
So ask for the casinos to drive people off their property for at least six hours versus having them stay and gamble…AND pay for the buses?

Agreed, but we as fans shouldn’t be spending all our effort doing it if the school isn't also going to put the effort forward
This is what separates us from the SEC - fans push hard, admin follows. It creates issues with coaching job retention, but they fill the stadium for FCS

Even if the transportation company didn’t ask SU to indemnify, the lawyers would still go after SU because of their deep pockets. It is after all SU who arranged for the transportation and contracted with the negligent company.
Yep- It’s not the indemnification - these bus companies make their money trekking drunk people all over the place. Bachelorette parties, wine tours etc. Its what they do, they understand the risk. If there’s a tragedy, everybody is getting sued anyway. It’s baked into the rate. Now if you’re letting the drunk people drive the bus….

The issue is basic dollars and sense. It’d cost the university about 3k per bus at least. These charter companies are booked solid with leaf peepers and weddings..etc. they won’t roll without a full day rate guaranteed. And the cost is the same if they take 1 person or 51 people.

And noooobody is going to go to a game because there’s a free bus trip..,,unless you’re from the visiting team and it’s a one off from a hotel or such.

50 random people are not hopping on a bus from Albany or Rochester to go to the dome.

If it’s a bar trip or an alumni organized trip where you have enough people…maybe…and those groups generally pony up for the cost.

I’m not sure what the original premise was? SU pays for a bus to leave Albany someplace to get you to the dome for the price of a ticket? Sign up here?

I think the number is much higher than you claim. And now we’re into value judgments, and what we each think is exceptional. As a fan of Syracuse, if you don’t think the all time single season leader - as long as this program has been around - is worth going to see, then I believe you have set the bar impossibly high. My $0.02.

Premise was promote the games in nearby areas like Rochester. It's asking too much of Syracuse proper's population to fill a sporting event with 50,000 people. Included in a ticket purchase is bus service to game, then return to origin. It's not going to cost $3000. I'm not talking about an as directed hourly rate for a motor coach or other chartered mini-bus. It's a point-to-point rate, in each direction. From Rochester(85miles) - couple/few hundred each way. SU would also likely would get a bulk discount for frequent usage. Fans would have to register for service prior to game, so that SU can gage need. Maybe it's different in CNY, not the level of companies available like a metro area, so vehicles and companies may be an issue, I don't know.

If it gets promoted right enough people from the Albany area might start going, both Wade Tours and Yankee Trails have similar plans for several different events in the Albany area; Yankees, Mets, Giants, Jets games etc. All of these do really well and the buses are normally packed.

It might not work until we start getting wins, but it’s just a suggestion. The infrastructure is already there through Wade and Yankee Trails, I don’t think it’s some massive legal liability for SU. The way it works is a fan buys a ticket with the bus ride from the vendor, so SU wouldn’t be directly involved.

Good point. Hmmm… slot machines on the buses!

Promotions will help but the bottom line is this town is dying for a winner. The fans will come if we can just do ok. Last years Rutgers game was a fan killer. I flew in for it and we had a huge group. Local and out of town fans really excited. And... we crap the bed.
Same with Maryland game blowing game day. Same with so many missed opportunities.
Syracuse needs to beat Ville. If we can somehow win the first 2 home games this town will pop.
Personally a feel like a
F...g cicada ready for some daylight.
Beating Ville will trump any billboard or bouncy ball re tread quad fun house that SU can provide.
Just win and the attendance issue will be fixed.

If they beat Lville, should be no worse than 1 loss going into NCSt. Assumes no key injuries.

if that was the case, that game would be huge.

I love the optimism. Purdue has an amazing QB. Virginia will be tough.

You think a bus company is going to sign off on transporting 40-50-60 people to an SU game 7 times a year without some sort of an agreement on accidents and litigation?

No offense but with all that SU is dealing with right now building a miniscule fanbase from the capital region via a chartered bus is so far down the list you'd need an act of congress to find it. Your looking for SU to spend tens of thousands for like 80 people to attend a game from the Albany area if that, it's nonsensical to be honest.
There are bus trips to Yankee games all the time in the North Country. Usually to Toronto or Yankee Stadium. Bills game too. They do it because the bus company makes money.

Correct but those have nothing to do with the sports teams themselves, those are all set up by the respective bus companies. The premiE mentioned before was Syracuse itself chartering the buses which is a whole different thing.

When is the last time we won an opener with such high stakes? Even when we had talent we always found a way to lose in some heartbreaking twist.

Well, if there was SU interest they would do the same thing. If there is no interest why would SU foot the bill?

Bus company transportation regardless of who set it up or what the transportation is for have insurance. If they didn't, they wouldn't be licensed to carry passengers, End of story.

SU is launching a partnership with a sports trip company out of Binghamton. Tom & Jerry’s runs awesome trips to Yankee games and many other events.

I think things started a bit too late to line up transportation but tj trips is reselling group sales tickets at ridiculously low prices. I am guessing this may be a trial balloon to judge interest. $10 for most games.

A Simon & Garfunkel venture?

Didn’t SU charter buses to Met Life a few years ago?
