FSU Postgame

Triche was a better player in every facet. If he would have got the leash JJ did he would have averaged 20/5/5. He also played elite defense. Not good, elite.
I'm not comparing Triche with JJ. I'm saying that our incoming frosh PG reminds me of Triche. That our incoming frosh is going to be much better than Carlos for a few reasons. Size and ability to get the rack and that fact that he is a better outside shooter.

Checked out

Yeah, during timeouts it looked like he wasn't even talking, just standing there.

Reminded me of Bobby Bowden toward the end when he was just a spectator at games.

Must be an FSU thing.

Survived and advanced. That's all that matters, ultimately.

No need to pick apart the performance, it's not like this team has aspirations to make a deep run and we need to fix things for that to happen.
FWIW, I think the vast majority would agree with this.

The responses seem to be in regards to the "What you have to say now, JJ haters" type comments. As if one game vs Florida State rectifies his play the whole season.

Run it back! We're just a center away. Petar gets better with the soph leap, Fennell is playing in a man's league and will be ready from the jump. Sadiq is a top-30 recruit! Kiyan can bring some great shooting. JJ will be a senior and will have a team that supports him and he won't have to be the go to guy.

If everything breaks positively, then we'll be unbeatable next season!

I agree.
I hope in future he brings Cuffe in for the closing minutes when we are likely to be fouled.
The dude is one of the better foul shooters on the team.
He was so cool and calm when he was trapped in the corner, waited to be fouled and then just sank those free throws.
He held the ball expecting (hoping) to be fouled. I wonder if that was his idea or the coach's tactic.

But he missed at least 4 or 5 shots right at the rim. And he wasn’t alone at that.
Most of the team was smothered at the rim by FSU's size.

Before his last 3 drives, JJ had succeeded with his mid-range game.

I believe the new PG will help make JJ better. He reminds me of Triche. Has size and most importantly can get to the rack and Ccan shoot. He won't be dribbling around the perimeter like Carlos. Hes a threat that will require attention.st

Carlos doesn't penetrate much because he doesn't have the athleticism to overcome his lack of size. He just gets swallowed up at the rim.

Are you setting us up for him to transfer… I just don’t see a world where him leaving is a good thing. You need an elite PG beside him that will alleviate some pressure. With portal talent significantly down this year, it’s not sustainable to get a PG,C, SF and now SG
If you want a group of guys to play TEAM defense, him leaving is a great thing. He is incapable of playing man-to-man which screws up every rotation and leaves guys open either in the paint or on the perimeter.

Basketball is not a game played solely on offense, which you'd think people would've realized the last few years.

I can't for the life of me figure out why Leonard Hamilton in the last few minutes of the game didn't double team Starling at the top of the key with like 10 seconds left on the shot clock to get the ball out of his hands, and make Carlos be the playmaker. If they do that, we probably lose the game.
It's pretty wild to me that Hamilton got to coach 1166 games

K, JB, Cliff Ellis, knight, Calhoun,Barnes, Huggins, larranaga, henson, Pitino, Altman, driesell, Williams

More than calipari Sutton Dean Smith

No one is saying JJ is not a good player or he won't be valuable back here is Sr year. We just need to be realistic that some team is going to look at how he gets to the hoop and scores alot when the matchup works for him, they may feel better about their defense and say we have great rim protectors. They may pay him 2-3X what we are paying because they need that skillset.

Tough decisions are going to need to be made if we should replace JJ with a more well rounded 2 way player or 2 guards that the sum of their parts are better than JJ is for the price... Our Defense is like 300+ ranked, we need to get better on that end.

That's all it is. It's business, not personal...
People are, indeed, saying just that.

In his defense, when he went to Miami in the early 90s they were absolutely horrible. They steadily improved throughout the 90s and were a Sweet 16 team by the end of the decade.

He had a lot of 20 win seasons at FSU and the best season of his career was 2019-20 which got cut short. They were on pace to be about a 2 seed in the tourney. Obviously I don't disagree that he tailed off at the end similar to JB.

Those are two schools where basketball is an afterthought.

He was also amazing in his role as Bunny Colvin on The Wire.

I just love it when FSU stinks to high heavens in football and basketball. I live in Florida.

He may have gotten the lonnnnng leash he did because he coached at schools where hoops was an afterthought.

7 seasons as a head coach at Miami before he made his first tourney. 6 seasons at FSU.

37 years as a head coach, 11 tourney appearances, and 8 seasons where his team finished ranked.

He had a couple of nice stretches at FSU, but his overall resume is... fine.

JJ isn't the reason we are losing games. Like last year's team that had to rely on Judah this year's team has nobody on the outside that get a score when we need one. Nobody. Not Carlos Cuffe not Bell nobody. When Taylor or Bell or one of them is on we don't need to rely on JJ as much but that isn't often. He is a great kid and plays his heart out. I wish he could make a foul shot but other than that he's the best we have on the outside. Question. If JJ didn't play this year, how do you think we would have done. Better or worse?
That's not entirely true, Q could and did on occasions, that probably would have been our best backcourt. Judah and Q with JJ as a third guard would have been a good lineup.

Yeah I'm definitely saying that and I'll stand by it. He's the perfect player for piling up stats on a bad team. He's a terrible player for winning games and making the tournament.
He leads the team in 3pa shooting 26%

How does someone take over five a game?

He's average, he's treated like a star, and he is such a great athlete and is so fast that it's disappointing to see that's all it is
