future grad transfers

I'd say it's more of an indictment of the coaches and team building than what you outline. Nobody else of our stature seems to have the problems we have when people go pro because they actually are able to recruit at a high level. The fact we probably have to go this route again next year is not exactly confidence inspiring.
When you recruit 1 and done's you can anticipate them leaving. I can't speak for the staff, but I don't believe that they aniticpated Mali, Ennis or McCullough leaving after 1 year.

And yes, plenty of teams do. The problem is we look at everything in a vacuum. We've had 2 FF's since 2013. There are less than 5 teams that can say that. Arizona would kill to be us the last decade. Most of us fail to look at the whole college basketball landscape and realize how successful we've been lately.

So Frank was better than Gillon today?

Please link me to the box scores that Frank did well that was against top 100 teams this and last year.

I'll hang up and listen.
Interesting, I personally like Howard more than Gillon down the road for us. I thought most people thought the same, but clearly not. Maybe that's just my way of thinking because Howard, a sophomore is more likely to improve Gillon, a senior. What leads you to think Gillon is a better choice?

Ok. So there are people here who think we'd be better off with our only players being Howard, Battle, Lydon, Roberson, Coleman, Chukwu and Thompson? That's how you think we'd be a better team?
we're a bad team anyway. what I would rather have is the scholarships used on players that can be developed and if not help now maybe help when Hopkins takes over. instead boeheim seems to be all in on winning now, at the expense of the development of the program. to be fair, it would seem that very few recognize how bad the sanctions have hurt recruiting and depth, and we wouldn't be in this predicament if it weren't for that. I'm just worried that boeheims stubbornness to win now and show them up is tanking the program. right now it looks like the ncaa will get what it wants, and send JB out like a punk.

Struggling to see how Lydon can be "the guy" either. Not at SF he can't.

He's our most talented offensive player, as scary as that may be. So let's try to get him the ball in situations that are best for his skill set.

There is no "guy" on this years' team. Plenty of capable guys to score double digits, tho. You score by running good offense. We create zero good looks for our players. We maybe had a few decent looks. All came early in the shot clock. RARELY do we get a clean look in the half court

Let me rant!!!!

You're right though.

However, I do fear that we are at the cusp of needing a major philosophical change. JB's approach to recruiting and coaching offense/defense is becoming a concern.

Less TOs, Steals and assists even out. Yeah, I'd rather have Frank, especially on defense. And driving.
Gillon 10 points, 4 assists, 2 TO's
Howard 7 points (3 in garbage time), 2 assists, 1 TO

Howard still looks like he lacks confidence and/or doesn't enjoy playing and/or the game is too fast for him. Kind of has Roberson disease. And I'm afraid there's no cure for that.

"The guy" might just emerge in conference play. Often nobody looks like "the guy" in a double digit loss.

I don't debate that Howard won't be good for us down the road.

Last year he was awful, I think his skills were very overrated.

They hype built up over the summer.

He comes in, does average or slightly above against bad teams.

Two games against solid teams (these are not GREAT teams we played) and he doesn't show up and looks bad at every aspect of the game.

He's just not at the point where 90% of this board thinks he is and it's shown the past two games.

I can't help but think you'd be the same person complaining if we used these 2 schollys on 3 star recruits and making posts about "we should have gotten 5th year grad transfers instead!"

the grass is always greener

I am also a fan of having DC rim run and looking into him early in transition in the post. Force the defense to collapse and have 4 other shooters spaced in both slots and the corner. Roberson is the odd man out. Play AW3 at the 3. He is AWFUL at the top of the zone

What's crazy is that their bigs were beating us up, and Coleman couldn't be stopped inside, yet we didn't just keep pounding the ball inside every time down the floor. Why? Getting their bigs to sit down with fouls is the clear winner in defending them.

Because Gillon is a better basketball player.

Who was "the guy" when we pummeled every team we faced in 11-12?

You and I watch different games.

Gillon was one of our best players tonight and White carried us in the first half. No idea what you're talking about.
look, I would be thrilled to be proven wrong, but gillon is just plain bad. he takes bad shots, makes bad passes and is lost on defense. early shot clock threes, lydon was wide open on a three and he makes a terrible pass and lydon misses it. like I said, its hard to train the losing out of people.

This has to be the worst post I've read in quite some time. Across the board terrible.

Because Coleman couldn't get position every time down the court or we would have fed him the ball more.

I agree. I love DC's chance to produce an open look or draw a foul with 4 shooters spread out around him. He has a nice touch and uses his body well. Teams will have to collapse on him. He is good enough to make a pass to the perimeter

No, he could. We just have impatient guards who aren't taught to look inside.
