Georgetown Post Game

It probably doesn't matter at this point, but do we have any idea if and when Starling will be back?

A bad team losing it's top scorer is just impossible to overcome.

I would say about mid-January. Probably Louisville or Notre Dame at home. That would be 6 or 7 games from now.

Doesn't seem like kids are taught how to play tough D in HS or AAU

I don’t have any experience with AAU, but friends of mine who do say it’s largely roll-the-ball-out, little-to-no practice, controlled chaos.

I suspect kids who are good defenders have that skill because they’re self motivated. Maybe some pick it up if they have an exceptional HS coach.

He’s on the Westry plan I’m sure. We’ll see him for 3 minutes in the season closer.

That loss was on Red. Not subbing until under the last 2 minutes is unacceptable and it looks like he absolutely has no feel for in game coaching along with the lack of hustle and fundamentals shown by this team. Luckily the ACC stinks this year or it would be a 20 loss season.

Yeah, we're a tough watch. I watched Illinois/Tenn and then Gonzaga/UConn, and the level of effort doesn't even seem close. Other teams seem to be able sustain that little 2 minutes stretch of intense D we had in the second half for LONG stretches of time.

Every team has moments when they lag a bit - but for us, the outlier seems to be the high intensity moments.

You need to emphasize these kinds of kids during recruiting, if you want an effective man to man D.

I doubt Mark Few takes this AAU roll out the ball & no coaching type kids.

Not just the defense either. Watching what UConn runs on offense then watching us is such a stark contrast it’s sad to see. It’s almost a different sport

It’s different program by program but there are many club teams that don’t practice together. Just play tourneys

They weren't that good offensively until Hurley brought in that offensive guru a couple years ago. Their back cuts, screens and motion are beautiful to watch.

I’m pretty sure one of the announcers in yesterday’s game said “January 1.” Which seems early, but What do I know. Considering he‘s going to have to be able to fall on it….

Not gonna happen that fast.

Please. Mookie was very entertaining.
But he wasn’t brought to SU to be an adorable quasi walk-on. He was brought in to start and produce.

So, against my better judgment I did a speed watch of the game, and it's bonkers we didn't score a single point for 4 minutes between Carlos hitting a three and a couple of free throws.

As is becoming a terrible theme, it wasn't clear exactly what we wanted to do on offense during that drought.

Watching Red for the last 10 minutes not subbing was like watching Quint rock back and fourth in the Orca dragging a shark while smoke was coming out of the engine and hoping he'll make it to shore.

Ha. Farewell and adieu

They are up 21 against Creighton at home right now with about 10 minutes to go. I guess we helped them turn the corner ;).

I saw something the other day online, think it was Evan Miya, that IIRC Georgetown is a top-15 team analytics-wise with Sorber on the floor and outside the top-200 without him. But they did not need him against Creighton.
