Georgetown Post Game

Obviously we didn’t lose because of one play, but the play that continues to stick out in my mind is that garbage one handed pass from Carlos when we were up 6 and had all the momentum. He played an otherwise solid game but that seemed to be the turning point where everything went to hell.
Get tired of hearing announcers keep saying how no Syracuse players hustle back on loose balls on turnovers.
That is a coaching problem, and shows Red either is incompetent or not in charge.

So just listened to Red presser.

He said he brought in Bell and Freeman because we were going to press….and they could make shots…but mostly press.

We were down 3 with 2 mins left. What the hell is he talking about? Why would we have to press at that point?

JB wins this game w these players & 20 last year also.

Geez, is the coaching that much worse than last year?
I don't think the whole difference was Judah.

He seems to have regressed this year, like he kind of lost his idea of what he wanted to do.

You are absolutely correct and all that can be traced back to an incompetent coach way over his head that has no idea what he is doing once the game starts. Deer and headlight syndrome. He don't got it
I'm not even worried about "once the game starts." Our players just don't know how to play basketball the right way, and that starts way before gametime.

And yet, it was still there to be won, Poor execution in the last couple minutes, or else we could have won this game.
It was tge Bad defense & tired legs giving up easy drives to the lane, as much as it was the wrong people taking shots or the untimely turnovers leading to overall poor offensive possessions.

I just finished watching the game. Turning point in the game in my opinion -- Syracuse up 6 with the ball and Taylor shoots a 3 with plenty of time left on the clock. Misses badly and Georgetown goes on a run leading to another loss. Taylor shooting 7.7% from the 3-point line. Obviously plenty of blame to go around. Bell and Moore terrible on both ends of the court. Didn't Moore have to play defense in HS?

His defense is so bad. Goodness. Guys go right past him to the rack. We've had too many of these kinds of players. Go off offensively once or twice, but are otherwise just incomplete players bc of their D.

Should recruit more well rounded players.

We were giving up easy drives to the lane all game long, fresh legs or tired legs. Our defense sucks very badly.
We had some stops in other parts of the game bc of some players energy & GT was giving the game to us.

.
Freeman could barely run! The whole dome could see it.

Freeman is not much better on D than Moore, just more athletic. I have to assume these great HS players depend on their athleticism in HS and are fundamentally unsound in many areas. Hopefully both will be here next year and work hard on their defense.

Was thinking the exact same thing! It’s like he’s clueless or in over his head and the game is moving to fast for his decision making.

Doesn't seem like kids are taught how to play tough D in HS or AAU

This was definitely the turning point. We were up 64-58 from 8:32 left to 6:38 left with a TV timeout at 7:59. Taylor should have been taken out at that point so we could put in someone who could score. Taylor took that ridiculous shot, Fielder dunked, then we had another turnover and all of a sudden it was 64-62.

We had a 2 or 3 minute sequence when we went up 6 where we really played solid defense.
We badly needed a substitution during that stretch because we should have extended the lead at least three times.

I agree with almost everything being said that’s critical of coaches and players. The fanbase rightfully so is not going to forget the stink of this game with Autry and Bell.

Despite this nightmare If we just make free throws at a 85-90% clip we would have won against Texas, ND, and today and be sitting at 8-2. 63 free points not counting front ends left behind this year.
I don't think there are any college teams who make 85% of their free throws.

That loss was on Red. Not subbing until under the last 2 minutes is unacceptable and it looks like he absolutely has no feel for in game coaching along with the lack of hustle and fundamentals shown by this team. Luckily the ACC stinks this year or it would be a 20 loss season.
