Georgia Tech Postgame

In one thread a poster suggested that for SU to win it would be good to play against a team haveing an off shooting night.

Eddie plays hard. He's an average player who does his best.
I have no idea what the staff saw in him that made him such a high priority.
The staff saw the heavy kid at NC State who was a good passer lead the team to a miracle F4 run and thought we were getting a similar player? Eddie is a huge waste of money at 800K. McCord only got $1 mil and he was a superstar.

I still cant believe GT has wins. That was by far the worst team we have played this year and it is not even close. They were awful. They must have had at least 10 air-balls. They had a 2 on 1 fast break and threw a pass off the front of the rim. I would be embarrassed if I was a GT player/coach and contemplate retirement after that.

If Red is still the head coach next year he better beg JJ to come back for his senior year. We’re gonna be another hot mess if he doesn’t. It’s hard to rely on freshman. But a senior year JJ, sophomores Freeman, Moore and Petar M, and a couple of really high level portal players (a PG and an athletic center) would be huge. Add in Kiyan, who will no doubt be getting big minutes, along with Fennell and White, and maybe we can be a tourney team. The big question is Red up to the job of coaching. I think he has to hire an experienced older former HC for the bench.

Red did a good job tonight. He used times outs at the right time. As soon as they went zone he could tell the guys were tentative and called time out. Ran some good sets at important times to get big buckets. This team is slow locating Bell. It seems they’re always looking to the opposite side of the court. Petar knows how to play. Just needs to nit bring his hands down when he fouls. Great pass to Eddie. Taylor, despite a couple of bad turnovers keeps getting better. Happy for the guys and I’m glad the long drive was easy with really good roads.

agree with all of this. Not sure it makes me feel much differently about red in general, but thought he was fine relatively speaking tonight. And that's not just because we won, so much as I thought we at least deployed some strategy (played under on the GT PG, made an effort to pound down low to lampkin in the second half, etc.) Not sure they were great strategies but it was strategy and we got a win so I won't knock it.

Particularly agree on Bell, who continues to be a bit out of sorts for the most part. But we are terrible at finding him when he's got some space.

Overall, two bad teams. Is what it is.

Edit: one negative note -- not hitting threes and never getting to the line is a terrible combo.

I don’t believe that. The people around me were estimating 10 to 12,000.
On TV they said a couple times 14k and it looked slightly less than that from the few camera angles so I would say 12k passes the look test.

Come on guys. They won and in fact really played well down the stretch offensively . It was a bucket or a foul pretty much every time down the court the last few minutes. This tech team isn’t worse than the other ACC teams we lost to. a little less glass half empty might be in order for a few hours .

GT beat Notre Dame by 11 and Boston College by 21. Syracuse has been slow starting and coming together in several games. There is some talent on the team and if they played more together, they can win games.

That said, the shooting percentages for both team were pretty bad most of the game. The saying “Score at will” really did not apply to this game. I’m glad that Syracuse won but it was a pretty sloppy game. Hopefully, the next game which is against BC will show improvement over this game. Glad that JJ a had a good shooting night and Chris Bell shot well. If we could just cut down on the turnovers caused by the big men fumbling the ball, we would be better.

If we could have just snuck out that ND game attitudes would be much cooler. I mean we'd still stink and want a change but we would be hanging in the belief that we aren't the worst. Sad time.

It’s obvious this would have been a much better season if JJ had started and been able to play the one all year. He is not a perfect fit but the best one for this team. Starling Taylor Bell Davis and Lampkin with Donnie getting 25-30 off the bench would have given you a better chance to win.
