Gerry McNamara needs to be the next coach

What about Doty's skill set makes you think he could handle FAR more athletic defenders in the ACC?
The kids quickness is absolutely off the charts to be able to create, by either going to the hole, making short jumpers or rather distributing when guys come to him, also athletic enough to make off-balance shots as well all on top of a sweet stroke from deep at an almost 35% clip from deep. Add in 7 rebs a game and 2+ assists, 85+% FT shooter and you have a Kid can who can do it all.

Most of that translates well to any level as he’s athletic as anyone at any level I’ve seen play this year. Tall enough too. Kids a gamer.

You can teach kids to rebound, you can even teach kids to shoot better, but you cannot teach that athleticism that he possesses, that ability to create, and THAT is what translates to basketball in general at any level. Maybe not the same exact level of/stellar stat line he has now at Siena but a serious contributor nonetheless.

Siena will be hard pressed to keep him, AW will need to pony up to help Gerry again.

Not to mention the championship game was Q4, like 20 more of Siena’s wins. He was 2-7 in Q1,2, and 3 games.
Before we worry about consistency we need to worry about the immediate future. Hiring a guy with a 2-7 record in anything other than Q4 doesn’t scream immediate success.
You keep saying this, but it is only a reason Siena wouldn’t make the tournament as an at large bid.
It is NOT the reason that Syracuse shouldn’t hire GMAC.
The reason GMAC shouldn’t be hired is he has only been a head coach for two years and he does not have a long enough track record.
After at least 5 years of mediocrity and the failed Autry experiment, Syracuse needs to choose the candidate with the most proven and consistent success along with the experience to match. They can’t afford to gamble on an up and comer with only 2 years head coaching experience with this pick.

Since you keep focusing on his Quadrant won loss record let’s look at it.

Q1 0-1, loss to Indiana at Indiana, expected and not really a mark against him.
Q2 no games
Q3 2-6, with all 6 losses coming on the road, one win an away game, and one win at a neutral site.

Not the greatest, but also not really the ringing indictment you make it out to be.

The home/away/neutral site record does show an ability to win away from home, which I would think is at least as important or maybe more important to whoever may be looking to hire GMac.

Home Record 9-4
Away Record 9-7
Neutral site 5-0

If GMac is still at Siena next year and they make the tournament again, no one looking to hire will be focusing on his Quadrant won loss record even if it is the same as this year.

SIX GENERATIONS AGO! FFS dasher, please stop bringing up ancient history.
Hey! It’s hard to move on from such perfidious behavior. He had just finished liking Ike, processing Teapot Dome, and realizing we couldn’t reunite Korea. THEN HE HAD TO DEAL WITH THE TET OFFENSIVE AND DANFORTH LEAVING FOR TULANE!

Despite the data/stats cited in support of Hodgson, IMO he's no slam-dunk Savior.
This forum will be very interesting if Hodgson is hired, and SU has another Dance-missing disappointment next season.
So much will go into retooling the entire program and spending NIL $$$$$$$-
Next season will arguably be the most important in SU hoops history, when considering implications.

Here's a fact.

Other programs hire new coaches and retool and then make the tournament.

It happens every year now in the NIL era.

It's very possible we can do the same and it's not some pipe dream ... And yes, as with most things in life, there are no guarantees. Some programs make the wrong hire and whiff and/or don't have enough NIL to fund the coach adequately, etc.

Would be a complete disaster to have assistant coaches worse than this year's group.

Gavin Doty would average 5 ppg at a high major program.
Agree on coaches. I think Doty would positively impact winning more than a lot of guys who played this year.

Nothing there screams great coach to me. Yeah, he made the NCAAT, but he also finished 3rd in the regular season in a low major league. People are putting a lot on one 3 game hot sreak.

There is NO slam dunk savior. The question is who do you think has the best chance. Me, I go with Hodgson.

I don’t want Gmac and I don’t want Doty, but he had 25 and 8 against the Bonnies and had 16 and 6 against Indiana. He wouldn’t be a star, but the 5pg a game you stated isn’t accurate either.
St Bonaventure is not a high major or anything close to one.

I'm sure the kid got up for Indiana, it's the biggest game he's played in his career. The key phrase I used was "average 5ppg".

If there was no Gerry/Upstate NY connection, and Doty was linked to SU as a portal transfer people in here would be losing their minds.

I don’t agree. Hodgson brought two players from Arkansas St to the American and they still produced. One may come here next year(Enis).

The difference in the Sunbelt to the ACC is the about the same difference as MAAC and I repeat he would average more than 5ppg

Caleb Wilson went 4-12 against the Bonnies in what was mostly a close game. Again I posted that I don’t want Doty or Gmac so nice reading comprehension there.

I'm not saying that guys can't translate to the next level. I just don't think Doty specifically would translate.

I also read the part about you not wanting either. But there are others in this thread that do.

G-mac is our best choice. Cuse is no longer a final destination. If a new coach is successful he will be poached. Our history was based on coaching consistency. G-Mac is our only option to return to coaching consistency.
People wishing for a magical new coach are ignoring the reality of our situation.
I don’t know if that’s true. Remember I started that post on January 1. On a dare.

Baloney. Magic was not full of himself. My wife was matre dee at The Honey Pot. He was very humble. Never expected special treatment. Second hand character assassination must be great fun.
Not sure where you got that I was inferring Magic was full of himself. My post was in response to remembering someone for what they did on the court as opposed to what they did with a clipboard. Magic was one of the greatest players ever (and my favorite player of all time). Conversely he was an awful coach for a short stint with the Lakers. Hence remember what he did as a player not as a coach.
