Not to mention the championship game was Q4, like 20 more of Siena’s wins. He was 2-7 in Q1,2, and 3 games.
Before we worry about consistency we need to worry about the immediate future. Hiring a guy with a 2-7 record in anything other than Q4 doesn’t scream immediate success.
You keep saying this, but it is only a reason Siena wouldn’t make the tournament as an at large bid.
It is NOT the reason that Syracuse shouldn’t hire GMAC.
The reason GMAC shouldn’t be hired is he has only been a head coach for two years and he does not have a long enough track record.
After at least 5 years of mediocrity and the failed Autry experiment, Syracuse needs to choose the candidate with the most proven and consistent success along with the experience to match. They can’t afford to gamble on an up and comer with only 2 years head coaching experience with this pick.
Since you keep focusing on his Quadrant won loss record let’s look at it.
Q1 0-1, loss to Indiana at Indiana, expected and not really a mark against him.
Q2 no games
Q3 2-6, with all 6 losses coming on the road, one win an away game, and one win at a neutral site.
Not the greatest, but also not really the ringing indictment you make it out to be.
The home/away/neutral site record does show an ability to win away from home, which I would think is at least as important or maybe more important to whoever may be looking to hire GMac.
Home Record 9-4
Away Record 9-7
Neutral site 5-0
If GMac is still at Siena next year and they make the tournament again, no one looking to hire will be focusing on his Quadrant won loss record even if it is the same as this year.
