While true, if the lower level employees don't buy in, the culture won't take root. The most successful managers have an ability to get the buy-in and transform.
This is also a bit simplistic, because it also depends on the type of organization and the incentives/disincentives at management's disposal. For example, the military is different from private corporations.

Not always. You also need buy-in, good followers, and a whole bunch of other factors to work in management’s favor. A few bad seeds in the lower ranks can be disruptive. To be clear, I’m not saying any of this applies to the basketball program.

Fran McCaffery won 3 regular season titles in MAAC, 3 conference tournament championships, and 2 NCAA tournament games before he was given a power conference job after coaching at Siena.

Came to Siena from UNC-Greensboro which I think is in the Southern Conference now and I assume better than the MAAC.

No. It actually makes more sense for him to not want the SU job right now. The current situation at SU is a potential minefield for a coach just getting started and experiencing success as a HC for the first time. He's got a good start at Siena and with another season or two of success, he can have a choice of good jobs in a couple years.
If he comes to SU, he will have to navigate a new Chancellor and a new AD, who will both likely be cutting their own teeth.
To add to that, if he has some early struggles, the stink of the last 7 years will be front and center with the fanbase who will once again be screaming that we should have hired outside the JB tree.

Well considering Dion did very little his freshman year and virtually exploded his sophomore year, I think GMAC had some impact on his success.
Dion himself said he did - crap I assume his relationship with GMAC is probably why he went to watch Siena at the MAAC tournament. Unless he is a lover of Siena basketball.

Unless we have a winning P4 coach tee’d up, I don’t see significantly different risk profiles.

We either hire a midmajor coach who has turned losers to winners or a midmajor coach who has turned losers to winners. You don’t make these kinds of decisions with an eventual firing in mind, in the same way you don’t marry somebody with an eventual divorce in mind (or shouldn’t lol; who knows with this crowd).

Do you see the ridiculousness of changing your opinion on a coach after 1 game right? We're already an unserious hoops program that botched a national search 3 years ago and now the same fools just want to hire a coach on vibes without a national search again.

Why not hire Speedy at Hofstra or any midmajor coach that punches a ticket winning their conference tourney?

Don’t worry, I’ll selectively forget about the tremendous seasons we had between 2009-2023, the final fours, and all guards sent to the NBA that GMAC helped develop.

I would love to hear you explain how he deserves credit for the good years/players/moments in those years and does not deserve blame for the bad years/players/moments in those years, which began to massively outweigh the good after 2016.

Multiple things can be true at the same time:

-GMac looks to be a better head coach than Red
-If "we had to" stay in house 3 years ago, GMac should have been picked
-GMac shouldn't get the Syracuse job at this point in time, he has a lot more to prove, and should work his way up like normal coaches from the MAAC or have a decade-long success in that conference

Why? He's been a head coach for only a year longer than Gerry. Same amount of time as assistant coaches with various titles. The Sun Belt and the American conference aren't anything special. Gerry's team is dancing after a significant two year turnaround, first time in the tourney in sixteen years. I don't see how this Hodgson guy is the hands-on favorite over McNamara. Because he recruited for Nate Oats at Alabama? So what?

Because as an assistant, he was a lot more successful than Gerry was as an assistant.

I hate that this is making some of us talk so negative about an all time cuse legend who could be at the start of a successful head coaching career, especially after what should be nothing but a great moment last night, but it has to be said to shut down the people who legitimately want to hire him for next year. Nothing but love for GMac, but if people want to hire him for next year they need this dose of reality.

Interested in what people think about Siena having the highest NIL in the MAAC? Obviously GMac can coach but he also had more talent on his team than the rest of the MAAC. I believe Doty was the highest paid player in their league but someone can correct. 3rd place in the league was prob underperforming but they got it done in the tourney which is all that matters for them.

Granted BH also has one of the highest NIL's in the AAC behind Memphis and around what Tulane is.

Right now if you go by NIL they are both doing what they are expected to do but are they really overperforming if you just look at the dollars they're spending.

I've been following Will Wade and NCSt closely because they were supposed to the hot new team for ACC rebuilds. I think most would say Will Wade was the best incoming coach in the ACC with boatloads of HC experience and they gave him a bank with 4th in ACC NIL spend. Not sure anyone has been paying attention, they are tourney locks but here they sit at 19-12, likely one of the last teams in. On paper I would say NCSt and Wade heavily underperformed.

When BH or Gmac get to the ACC they are going to have to do alot more with alot less. They aren't going to have the most money or talent in the league by a longshot.

I don’t understand why so many of you want to disassociate the basketball program from Jim Boeheim. Many programs hire legacy coaches and are quite successful doing it. One of the greatest coaches in college basketball history but his last few years here have made too many people salty. Gerry is a winner, a Syracuse legend, and now, a pretty good conference champion coach. But, no, let’s hire an unproven guy they call Baby Shark that has zero connection to Syracuse. Baby Shark. It’s absurd. Make it make sense outside of holding petty grudges. As a fanbase, the entitled behavior is ridiculous.

Because his apathy toward doing his job is why the team when down the drain.
He reeked of entitlement his last 10 years, honestly.
