Have you ever worked at a job anywhere? This is ludicrous.
At what job do you decide how long you keep the job??
Unless you own it, literally no one does that.
And this sounds awfully naive. Kent had an agreement to let him leave and save face, and HE REFUSED TO GO.
Years later, after many bad seasons, Boeheim bitched in the press, "I DECIDE when I go, nobody else."
Did you forget that?
He was wiling to ruin his reputation and burn down the program so he could coach his sons, and that's exactly what he did,
Kent was afraid of the negative publicity of firing Boeheim. Kent is a little girl not a leader,
He has been for a very long time.Who thinks BH is even interested in coming to SU?
Watch USF play, watch tape of his team at Ark state. Listen to the interviews and look back to the teams Oats had with BH at his side. Hes been on an upward trajectory without setbacks for a while both in recruiting and results for a longer period of time.
Then look at the metrics multiple folks have shared in this thread. There is a very solid case behind him as a coach and recruiter. Also he’s been part of multiple teams that he helped build up to meet new heights consistently going from an assistant to now a HC.
You can’t look at all that and not come away with a number of reasons he’s a great option unless you are firmly biased against someone who isn’t from the SU family or someone who has been a P4 head coach for a decade already like a Chris Mack for example. Add onto the fact that pulling in a guy like the Iowa state coach would be very expensive and even someone like Mack has some flaws even with his resume.
Unless you've suddenly become VERY stupid, you should see that Boeheim is trying to influence the decision using his position in the press.
If nothing else, it's a conflict of interest. As you said, he's not SUPPOSED to have any part in the selection process.
BUT HE'S TRYING TO. You do understand that, right?
To the second point, it sounds like your beef should be with Kent, no? JB didn’t hold the program hostage.
Bryan Hodgson for startersWho thinks BH is even interested in coming to SU?
Sure, no problem!

He is so obviously the choice lol
Ok, then let him try to influence it. Who gives a crap? It’s not his decision and decision makers probably won’t be listening to him. To put the onus on him to not talk about whatever he wants is weird.
This statement is insane.
You realize why Mike left, right?
Luckily I’m a nerd and love to deep dive into this stuff when I have the free timeOK, that's more impressive than the raw WL record.
Seems a bit like Fran Brown, then..
Does everybody have a job on TV to try to sway public opinion?
Does everyone have his standing in relation to the program?
If you want his input, make him part of the process.
They DIDN'T, and so he should shut the hell up.
I'll simplify.Sell me on Hodgson. I don't get it. At all.
If the ex ceo of Xbox was still employed by Microsoft, and during an interview said that xbox just doesn't have the resources to put out a product that would compete with Playstation, I'd expect that person to be fired. That’s not how that would work and you know it.
JB isn’t sharing insider information. He’s the equivalent of the mailroom clerk saying, “Idk, I think Brad would be a cool CEO.”
He’s not in a position of power and not part of the selection process.
You’re an attorney. You know it’s not a conflict of interest. It would only be a conflict if JB financially benefited from it, which I don’t think is the case.Unless you've suddenly become VERY stupid, you should see that Boeheim is trying to influence the decision using his position in the press.
If nothing else, it's a conflict of interest. As you said, he's not SUPPOSED to have any part in the selection process.
BUT HE'S TRYING TO. You do understand that, right?
Exactly, This crazy talk about how we have to get him now after one game. Cuz he won a MaaC tourney and punched a ticket. Also sidenote while having the largest NIL in the conference and the best player.I bet if Hodgson is really good , he leaves in 3-4 years and Gerry would be a top candidate.
how so? top four teams in the AAC this season ranked by SRS (simple basic efficiency metric based on offense and defense relative to the season):
This seasonUSF - 12.9 (regular season champ)Tulane - 11.9Wichita - 8.7Memphis - 4.6Last Season:Memphis - 12.1North Texas - 7.7 (had Ross Hodge who jumped to WV this season)UAB - 4.7 (had Yaxel Lendeborg and still were meh)FAU - 3.7 (had Matas Vokietaitis who starts at Texas)MAAC this season (yes those are negatives)Marist - -3.4Merrimack - -4 (regular season champ)Siena - -4.1 (won tourney)Quinni - -5.3MAAC last season (yes those are negatives)Merrimack - -4.6Quinni - -5.9 (regular season champ)Siena - -7.5Manhattan - -7.7St. Mary's - -7.9 (won tourney)Not that I expect this to change any minds and I'm just yelling into the void, but it certainly looks like the AAC is tougher this year and the MAAC is a bunch of not good teams with this season being slightly better. And to reiterate, this is the best team by the metrics in USF's history and Hodgson could set the record for most wins this season with 2 more. Gerry has Siena's 9th best season by wins and it's their 32nd best season by SRS.
Not sure why you think Boeheim should have no opinion on Gerry getting bigger offers.Don’t care what was asked, don’t need to listen to form my opinion. Because even if the question was a sledgehammer “Do you think Gerry will get bigger offers this offseason”? - the correct answer would be “I don’t know, I was never in the business of hiring coach because I was too busy being one. But Gerry’s a great coach, I expect he’ll have continued success and will get bigger opportunities - if not this year then soon”.
I realize there is absolutely no way JB would ever take that approach. But that’s why I would be thrilled if he would just stop giving interviews.
I don't follow, Frost was a Nebraska alum who went home and flamed out to everyone's surprise. Change the name Hodgson with McNamara and then now you've got it.Change the names and this could be the Scott Frost thread with hodgson being Frost
Out on the whole Hurley family. If Dan wins 10 championships and decides Syracuse is the only place for him and he’ll coach for $10 a year… out.
That’s one way to look at it, but if Syracuse is really good again. They’ll be making A LOT of money. Probably very few if any jobs can outpace when that happens. See UConn with Dan Hurley.I bet if Hodgson is really good , he leaves in 3-4 years and Gerry would be a top candidate.
If the ex ceo of Xbox was still employed by Microsoft, and during an interview said that xbox just doesn't have the resources to put out a product that would compete with Playstation, I'd expect that person to be fired.
If we hire BH, I refuse to refer to him as The Shark.
Seems so childish.
Good ole Otto the Orange is enough character names for me.
If he's doing something that hurts the program, then you need to cut him loose. Especially if he's not even doing anything in his honorary made up position. So ‘fire’ him from his honorary made up position with no job requirements then.
What are we even talking about here?
