I love his intensity. The player we has everyone else hated.I loved that he played for ‘Cuse because had he played anywhere else i would have HATED him.. That being said I don’t think he fits into Gerry’s personality category.. Just don’t think it would mix.. I would be all for it though!!
As the kids say... this. Can we PLEASE not put together a staff comprised totally of former SU players? Is one from outside too much to ask?
Actually Gerry was bringing in 4 new recruits, best in the conference per the rankings.29-year old first time head coach, with a depleted roster once Gerry takes Doty, Folefac and Moesch. That sounds like a recipe for disaster.
Sense they went the cheap option at Coach, they better use that for the assistant pool. But I don’t have much hope.As the kids say... this.
Importantly, I hope SU is as committed to paying market rate for assistants as they have been for football under Fran.
We've heard all about the promises from donors for NIL, but do we know if SU plans to step up financially for staff?
A disaster waiting to happen if there’s not a whole lot more than thatAO
Blackwell
Devo
Not sure who else.
Pfft, we aren’t bargain basement shopping anymore with stiffs like them.Greg McDermott and Bill Self
Schmidt would be great as the wise older coach to bring onA disaster waiting to happen if there’s not a whole lot more than that
3 assistants with minimal or no recruiting experience and limited overall college coaching experience at a low level
A HC in his 3rd year
This isn’t charity. Gmac can’t fool around and only bring in former Cuse players with little coaching experience. He’s needs an established old head and some guys with recruiting experience and connections.
AO has some of that experience so I’m ok with him on the staff.
Just about to post this. Gerry has obviously crossed paths with him over the years, with both Cuse and Siena playing The Bonnies.Schmidt would be great as the wise older coach to bring on
It is not coincidence that our recruiting crashed when we left the BE. It had nothing to do with JB. JB always has the fire. Cuse does not exist in a vacuum. We had a reputation as a BE power, home to gritty playground players, competing against serious foes with serious implications.JB in 2008 and 2012 was not the JB at the end of his tenure. He got lazy, stubborn and old; like most old men who don't know when to call it quits.
In one post you're saying how great he was, even at the end, and in the next you're kind of recognizing how God awful his scouting and game coaching was at the end.
If he retired even as late as 2021 he'd have a much better reputation. I hope GMac works because the good he did far outweighs the bad, but he's the primary reason we're in the mess. He got us on probation twice because he was disinterested. He was a lazy recruiter after we got sanctioned and needed him fully engaged. He instituted the most boring brand of basketball because he recruited for the zone and didn't really care about developing big men or getting a real point guard. And he's still meddling in the program.
You continue to be in denial about JB still having that fire in his 70s. Maybe on game day, but not for the entire job. People get old - you're one of the few on the board who is in denial and can't acknowledge that.It is not coincidence that our recruiting crashed when we left the BE. It had nothing to do with JB. JB always has the fire. Cuse does not exist in a vacuum. We had a reputation as a BE power, home to gritty playground players, competing against serious foes with serious implications.
Recruiting is about sales. Sales are based on what you are selling. A northeast school in the deep south is not a very attractive product. The evidence is in plain sight.
One really didn’t have his backBut they weren't all allowed to travel.![]()

“The whole if he's an SU guy he can't be any good is such a CNY attitude.”Gerry wasn't my first choice. But if we weren't hiring a coach with 10+ years successful experience its a crap shoot. Bryan Hogdson has won just as many NCAA tournament games as Gerry. The best candidate were Schertz and Calhoun. Schertz re-upped and was never available and Calhoun's team is still playing. The whole if he's an SU guy he can't be any good is such a CNY attitude. Honestly those of you that can't handle an SU guy getting the job are embarrassing yourselves. I could care less where Gerry's staff comes from as long as they are his choice.
Paul PasqualoniPut this another thread but this makes more sense.
Pat Massaroni.
Yes, along with making the trains run on time, re travel logistics, ect.Pete does scheduling mostly correct? I can see where that makes sense operationally and doesn’t really have any negative impact.
