Gerry Staff Predictions…

If it's as simple as being in the Big East? How is that currently working out for Georgetown? Why has Villanova fallen off post Wright? Why was St. Johns irrelevant for 20 years before Pitino?

Don't confuse correlation and causation. We fell off shortly after joining the ACC. What else happened then?

1). We had sanctions, largely due to JB's hands off approach to running the program.

2) JB stopped putting in the recruiting effort he had for years prior (this is something recruiting insiders were clear about for years).

3) The approach of recruiting athletes and developing them over the course of 4 years that had been a hallmark of the program became ineffective as guys jumped to the pros after a year or two, just as they were ready to become stars.

None of this had anything to do with joining the ACC.
Georgetown has made bad head coaching hires like Patrick Ewing. I was never enamored with Ed Colley and he hasn't done much with plenty of resources.

Villanova hired a bad coach, Neptune, but they had a good first year under Willard and made the NCAAs.

If you have the resources and you don't win, look at the coach. Didn't we learn that at Syracuse?

What gives some optimism about GMac is that he turned around Siena, made an NCAA tournament, and gave Duke all they could handle. He is a competitor, but we need to be patient as he is still learning how to be a head coach.

Why are people even speculating about Griff? Was GMac quoted sharing his name or did someone close to him mention Griff? If not it seems strange to me that GMac would bring someone in from the previously failed staff and program. He is trying to turn the program around, not continue the subpar recent history.
People are generally uninformed and think to only coaches they know, so they default to Griff. I don’t see him ever coaching at Syracuse again. Informed fans would be furious.
