Grant needs this

About 5 years ago my life came to a screeching halt when I had muscle knots and spasms that were so painful I could hardly function. I had to lie on a couch and my clients had to sit in a chair next to me! (Yes, even at the time it was funny.)

I had a lot of trouble with diagnoses and one doctor tried to tell me I had MS. After six months, my step-brother-in-law, a chiropractor, came from the Hudson Valley and spent two solid weekends in our home. He felt for every muscle knot and then stuck a needle into it. This made the muscle scream in agony - oh wait! that was my throat - but then the muscle would go relax and get smooth. All in all, he probably poked about 400 needles into me. He told me I had muscle knots on top of muscle knots. I feel he saved my life. (By the way, I still went to almost every basketball game, but had to take the handicapped bus because I couldn't walk well.)

This technique is called "dry needling." Now, Grant is a fit young man in the prime of his life and I am thinking that his muscle spasm/strain whatever it is might be able to be helped by something unconventional like that. And it might not take 400 pokes!

I don't even know why I wrote this post. It'll never happen.

Agreed but SU doesn't think so.

I had friends that went to chiropractors for years. I worked for the DOJ in Corrections. An inmate punched me in the jaw. I was alright, but I couldn't bite down on my right side. I had my jaw x rayed and was told there was no fracture and in time, it should be alright. After about 4 weeks, I was referred to an oral surgeon. He looked at it and found nothing wrong. He stated if it wasn't back to normal in another 4-6 weeks, I would just have to live with it. I got used to chewing food on the left side of my mouth.
I had some issues with my hip and had some discomfort while running. A friend convinced me to see a chiropractor about my hip. When I went in, I completely forgot about my jaw. As the chiropractor was doing his routine, he had me touch my jaw while he moved my leg and hip. He then asked me if I had problems with my jaw. I was shocked. I told him I certainly did have issues. He determined that my jaw was slightly dislocated. He actually put it back into place and fixed what the oral surgeon could not identify. He also fixed my hip issue.

That is why I am a true believer.

I think this whole laser treatment is garbage. I have a friend who does abc treatment and it's highly effective I can vouch. Treatments with the activator, lasers, and even pt do not work in certain situations.

I just hope that JG, his family, JB and the trainers are all open to any/all modes of treatment - and if necessary they're consulting with various specialists

The other thing I believe in is massage. Once my muscle spasms and knots improved, I have had weekly deep tissue massages. I am lucky to be able to afford them! I am pretty sure the SU physicians believe in the value of massage, but most doctors don't.

Anyway, jvbj, your experience sounds rather dreadful but glad you found some help! I have many doctors in my family and am married to one, and not a single one had a good opinion of chiropractors. My bro-in-law treated me with great trepidation because of the family, but he helped me and they all saw it! Now I will always have his back, because he once had mine.

Amazing how many posters have medical degrees. I'm sure that Grant has been looked at by more than one person with the ability to diagnose what his problem is.
As for doctors, there are those who graduated with A's and those who graduated with C's. Second opinions are a must for any medical issue that does not improve.
