Guys it’s only year 4, Dino just

I like you but you aren’t either realizing their are Shafer people still and then you got a DB in the game thread who literally gets off being negative then I don’t know what to say.
We have a portion of our fanbase that loves the negativity and drama.
That chit is annoying and doesn’t deserve patience and deserves to be called out.

Criticism is fair. It’s the drama of Shafer people and the negative people who just want to be miserable.
If it bothers you so much then maybe you shouldn’t read the board. Im being serious, it really seems to upset you. Life is too short man, walk away if it gets to you.

Needs time to get his guys in. shafer never recruited acc

Yeah OK but Marrone followed GROB, who was a trainwreck of biblical proportions with a 5-37 record and Doug won 4,8,5,and 8 with two bowls over the next four seasons. And unlike Dino, he turned things around remarkably without an indoor practice facility or Dome improvements to sell to recruits. Dino’s ten win season rightfully buys him a fair amount of get out of jail cards. Still, this season is trending toward a bad, maybe very bad record. He has had four years and that should include obvious improvement at this point. 4 wins, 4 wins, 10 wins, 4 (or 3) likely wins doesn't exactly equal a great trend.

Under no circumstances should anyone even consider the idea of letting Dino go this year. Not going to happen, nor should it. Again, 10 wins was 10 wins and at SU that should count for a lot. But let's face facts; football at SU (along with basketball) isn't really about the academic mission of the University and has not been for a long time. Rather, is the focus of SU's Entertainment Division to use an analogy. As such, Dino is a highly paid person in a job where results count and are expected. As the old saying goes: "the world doesn't want to hear about the labor pains, it just wants to see the baby."

Unless the season ends differently than it is trending, Wildhack needs to have a talk about what changes might be made during the off-season and what metrics Dino needs to hit next year. That is simply Executive 101. Maybe Wildhack is comfortable with the ROI they have made in football, maybe he's not. That's not for us to say. I like Dino a lot but truthfully there are a lot more holes in his program than I would have expected in Year 4. I am always hopeful but at this point I don't see a real turnaround this year. If it does happen, that is great. Otherwise, I really hope he is up to the task of fixing things in Year 5.

Thanks for the advice.

I cant speak to that...but I DO believe there are posters who get off on being the, theoretical, "non-hysterical" ones who recognize that this team and program "is what it is" and syracuse fans should not get emotional in expecting better (the Crouthamel defense). They tote around their "apologist" cards like a badge of honor.
I’ve noticed this as well. Maybe that works if we got left out of the conference realignment merry go round, but we didn’t... we’re a P5 school, investing significant money into a program in a very winnable conference, sans-Clemson. I think we should be able to expect Year 4 of Dino to not make getting a first down seem like a Herculean effort.

I’ll give him a (reluctant) pass for this year. I say reluctant because I do feel like he deserves some heat. We have one good year under him with a Senior QB his predecessor recruited.

Year 4, which is the year I’m sure many of us were pointing to as a benchmark year, with his recruits, the day we hired him, has been GRob level bad and i don’t see how anyone can think that’s a dramatic statement anymore.

Silver lining is that unless he takes a lateral move and decides to be a guy lacking integrity/character, which I don’t think he does, he’s probably been removed from the factory programs short lists and we’ll find out over the next 12 months whether he’s the real deal or not.

Honestly tho, Dino is never had this type of adversity in his head coaching career with a team losing.

it’ll be interesting to see how he handles it...so far this year it hasn’t been great, however the jury is still out...for now

This is a good post. There really is no excuse for being THIS bad in year 4.

But we have no other choice than to suck it up and hope year 5 is better.

well said.

Agree. His year 3 buys him time. But not infinite time. At the end of the day he is a coach with (likely) 3 sub .500 seasons in 4 years. If year 5 is sub .500 again the hot seat becomes more than theoretical.

Unfortunately, I think we’re in for more of the same next year. I just don’t see a vast improvement in the offense. Maybe the line improves, but the skill positions will essentially remain the same. And for those who say, well, maybe some of the skill players improve, I don’t see a big leap there. The question them is: will the fans and the administration accept another losing season?

This is definitely a factor, and he himself has admitted that staying consistently good year to year is harder than rebuilding a team.

That's what I'm wondering - if next season isn't significantly better than this season, does the seat even get warm?

I think we’d accept it. I really think that if Dino can’t get it done here, then maybe it just can’t be gotten done here. Might as well let it ride with him. But I’m not as pessimistic as you, I think we can have a decent year next season.

He needs someone who can challenge Tommy at QB. Hoping he can find a JuCo arm. This needs to be a contest. The worst thing that happened to this offense as a whole and to some individual players on it was having things handed to them this season.

People have no patience and this is a pretty serious bump in the road. Exoecrarions Gordon away from people and it seems maybe the players. I like Dino’s approach and I’m sure he will hold the staff accountable. I will continue to watch and keep my perspective as always, its disappointing but it is football and there are greater concerns out there. These are just young men after all.

what is the message to recruits now? the year one pitch was probably something like... come here and play right away and be a part of something special...and all the believe without evidence stuff. Year two it was we have upset a top 25 team this is a glimpse of what we can accomplish If you sign ..year 3 we upset Clemson in our place...come here and you will get us over the top. What is the story now? Back to you can play right away, belief with some evidence? I have no clue what the story is now

A look at the recruiting page will provide the answer.
