Guys it’s only year 4, Dino just

He needs someone who can challenge Tommy at QB. Hoping he can find a JuCo arm. This needs to be a contest. The worst thing that happened to this offense as a whole and to some individual players on it was having things handed to them this season.
Call me crazy, but I still think TD can be a good P5 QB. The tools are there. I agree that we need more QB depth but I’d think that even if he was lighting it up right now. Our depth is... subpar.

Whats the definition of jumping off the bandwagon?

Here's where I am. I now believe that last year was more about the players and less about the coaching. I also think this year is more about the players than the coaching. But I think both have been worse this year. I like Dino, and am hopeful he figures this out, but he needs a new OC and the rest of his coaching staff needs to figure out a way to get a JuCo in here that can challenge TD if not take the job. I cannot watch another year of this godawful offense. If we enter 2019 with out changes to at least 2 of OC, QB, and offensive gameplan, I WILL start to seriously doubt whether Dino can get it done.
I can see why people think it was the players, but I have a hard time with that when it gets recognized that none of those guys that aren't still around ended up in the NFL.

I worry that it's more that something else is missing and it might be difficult to get whatever that thing is back.

I think we’d accept it. I really think that if Dino can’t get it done here, then maybe it just can’t be gotten done here. Might as well let it ride with him. But I’m not as pessimistic as you, I think we can have a decent year next season.

I’d like to know why you think they’ll be a bowl-type team next year, and that’s not with any sarcasm. It’ll be essentially the same offensive lineup, with a few new starters on the offensive line. The defensive line and linebackers will need to be remade, and we’ll lose a few starters in the secondary. I sense a 5-7 season.

By the way, the OP here is such a strawman it's outlawed in the great state of California.

Nobody is saying the reason why we're struggling is because Dino needs time to get his own players.

He may be. Im not giving up on him, but I'd like someone to push in the spring at the very least.

I like this Idea but wonder if anyone will truly
Be given a fair shot at being QB1. Dino seems loyal to a fault and TD is DBs poster boy.

Regardless any and all positions need challenged (and depth).

It’s too late to do a position by position break down, but my superficial take is that our QB and OL will have this monstrous learning experience under their belt. And we have some good athletes coming back at RB and WR. We also play in a mediocre conference and our OOC schedule is pedestrian. Winning 6-7 games is not a Herculean task (granted, saying that doesn’t make this disaster of a season seem better!). College football is a random game, who was thinking we’d have won 10 last year?

I’ve already chalked up the assumption we lose out and start over next year. It’s a lot easier to deal with this dumpster fire when you accept that.

Let’s see if Dino can make the necessary changes and rebound over the offseason.

That being said, the whole “tHiS bOaRd iS wHy wE dEsErVe tO sUcK” nonsense anytime someone complains is so annoying. I guess every fanbase some of you want us to be deserve to suck for eternity because they are about 100x more critical than this paddy-cake fanbase that tolerates losing seasons way better than most.

The praise here is worse.

The talk about our D after LIberty was emvrrassing. It’s worse in basketball Jalen CArey was a lottery pick after a couple games and I’m sure Guerrier will be after UVA as well.

Schedule isn’t too tough next year I can see 10 wins.

I can also see us still making a bowl. BC will be tough though because the team that’s packed it in and is having a bad year rarely wins that matchup.

Plenty of guys with D1 experience are gonna be transferring no need for a Juco. Many will have graduated these kids get their credits quick in case they don’t win jobs.

i dont know that anyone D1 will transfer here without a job guarantee and that is something i KNOW Dino isnt offering. a JuCo will take the schollie for a shot.

The guys with guarantees are few and far between Martell didn’t even get one.

This year maybe goes differently if Devito has to compete for his job. He did save our bacon twice last year not second guessing him being the starter but competition is good. If we don’t win 6 games the jobs up for grabs.

Why wouldn’t Trent Greens kid transfer here from NW for example?

I’ll always wonder how Chance Amie might have changed the landscape.

It's funny.

People are mad that DeVito holds the ball too long and take that to mean he can't get better and become the QB we need.

Meanwhile we've been getting a lot of reminiscing about Amie. A dude that couldn't handle the requirements of being in a D1 program.

It's fascinating what we'll forgive and what we won't.

Accuracy and attitude issues don’t really inspire confidence.

These struggles have come without Tommy being that bad.

There’s really no bright spots. Even Trish who was having a great year has been terrible last 2 games.

Collectively we improved today vs FSU on offense as the game went on. I can’t see us sucking at home vs BC. Maybe we see a different team down the stretch.

Last year of Shaffer first 2 of Dino did we win any games the last 4 of the year? I want to say we were 0-12. Maybe this year is like those seasons but the good play comes late.

You don’t turn things around in Tallahassee just isn’t gonna happen.

Needs time to get his guys in. shafer never recruited acc athletes
Without Eric D @ QB (Schaffer guy), this whole thread would be a lot uglier towards DB. Major influx of talent needed and so far.....it doesn't look like it is happening. QB is 1000000% his guy! Let's hope this turns around.

I’m talking about a Chance Amie with his act together. That obviously never happened..But if it did, we wound have probably had a real competition at QB.

To think, Ed Orgeron petitioned for this job. I think if the Babers experiment doesn’t work out end of next year this will become a reclamation situation for coaches who need a second or third chance.

I personally think we forget that SU is a northeast program that needs to dominate the north east for recruits. P was a CT guy, Mac was a New England guy. They built the trenches in the new engksndprep schools and layered them w fast Florida talent.

I hope Dino figures it out but I’m not gonna determine his fate bc he is charismatic or runs a mouse Davis offense.

We improved in the second half of the game only because Florida state put their back ups out there and started playing soft zone coverage. Basically just playing it not to lose and not to get hurt.

That's not crazy at all. He still throws a great ball and has solid athleticism. His weaknesses are his instincts and bad habits (e.g. holding the ball too long, tunnel vision on one receiver, always rolling right, always fading backwards when pressured, etc.) By the time Tommy is a senior I think he will be a much, much better player.

He has so far to go. I rather have a slightly physically limited QB with good FB IQ and instincts than a physical specimen with severely limited FB IQ and instincts. I think DeVito can improve but never to the point we all expected.
