Was thinking recently, has Red ever been given a technical foul as our head coach?

Obviously, they are not a good thing to frequently receive, but there’s usually a time or two each season where, strategically, a coach will get a T to express his frustration with the refs to get their attention or fire his team up, as examples.

It seems crazy to me if he doesn’t have at least 1 each year.

I've been hard on Red because of what we're seeing, but I'll hand it to him -- he had a good tech his first year that changed the momentum and I thought helped the team dig out of a hole and maybe even take the lead before half time. Can't remember which game.

Considering a bunch of the "tech" leaders are coaches with various levels of success, it appears that's what may be Autry's main issue relative to his coaching prowess, or lack thereof. Get some frigging more T's baby! ;)

I wonder what Boeheim is all time
He actually didn’t have that many for the decades he coached. He rarely ever lost control on the court- more outbursts were in press conferences than during games that might affect the outcome. In fact, he was ejected only once his long entire career - assessed 2 techs in the duke game in 2014. (The famous flying coat game when CJ was called for a charge) What’s funny the only other time he was ejected by, I believe local ref, Mike Kitts, done in a preseason exhibition game that doesn’t count officially.

Eh, I think Red does an appropriate job of working the refs. He's not making a Dan Hurley style fool of himself but he gets to them and makes a case, and we've for sure gotten make up calls this season.

Haha our fans also make the case. Me and the guy behind me were trying to get a basket interference call one game this season and the ref actually turned and non-verbally acknowledged us. Basically, "c'mon guys that was pretty weak" lolol

Speaking of T's - is it me or are there an exceptionally high number of T's being called in the NCAA tourney?

In the games I’ve tuned in to, the play seems to be pretty physical overall with the refs letting a lot of stuff go. More physical play = more complaining = more T’s? I haven’t noticed the techs.

I do think there has been a lot more reviews for flagrants in the NCAA and conference tourneys than usual. A lot of stoppages in play.

Be interesting to see what it looked like pre- and post-Iowa.

That was a devastating technical.

They should rename them Hurley fouls and the 3 refs should make a new symbol when they call one.

Back in 1980? He’d only been a coach for 3 and a half years. looking at the box score though I can see why he got a tech. Both Bouie and Eddie Moss fouled out, Rosie in only 19 minutes with 18 points, Santifer and Hal Cohen had 4, Cohen got his 4 fouls in just 13 minutes. Reading a recap, we were leading by 2 with 7 minutes left when he got the technical over what was reported as a “foul by Tony Bruin which replays showed it didn’t occur” and ended up in a 5 point possession for Iowa and the lead. The game ended with Iowa making 14 straight free throws in a 11 point loss by SU. Sounds like a total foul fest. Iowa had 30 free throws vs 19 for SU.

I was there. Beside myself.

danny has 2 nattys, he can pretty much act however he wants with that kind of success

I wonder what Mrs. Hurley's Sophie's choice would be.

Bobby won back to back nattys as a player.

Danny won back to back nattys as a coach.

Yeah, it's probably the daughter.

That is the one...flipped the game. A win would have given us round 3 with the Hoyas.

Meant to reply to Cherie asking if it was the 1980 game...not sure how I replied to myself...

I really hate that logic. Win = you can be an @$$. That's not right.
Its a sports league, not a social club. When you're talking about 10s of millions of dollars of value success trumps all. I would take an a-hole winner over a nice guy loser 6 days a week and twice on Sundays. (we kind of had a a-hole winner with JB if we are being honest)

There's varying degrees, though. I can live with some stuff, but Hurley is a classless lunatic.
