Help Me Here

Not only did you quote yourself...you actually complimented yourself on your previous quote!!! Well played sir.

I’m good enough, I’m smart enough, and doggone it, people like me.

Yeah because when Dino had Jimmy G at Eastern Illinois and talent at Bowling Green he didn’t win.
Dino won conference titles.
Addaizo was 13-11 at Temple after Golden rebuilt it.

Dino can win with talent and isn’t a meathead.

Addazio is rebuilding BC though after Spazziani blow torched what Jags/Obrien built. I get the point and hope you are right. I think we'll know by end of this year if we're there or not. I really hope FSU falls off a cliff and Dabo goes to Bama in next 2-3 years. That will help the climb big time.

False.
I was going to correct it, and add, in our case we require tempo to balance talent. If that's your false, then ok.

If not that, what do you think it requires besides talent? For me, schemes can be countered with good def coaching, and talent.

If Syracuse and Boston College have equal talent Babers will beat Addazio every time.
That is the difference between BC and SU.
Syracuse hasn’t had more talent than any P5 team they have played since probably 2005 UConn.

Our biggest problem has been talent. Dino is building a roster of 3 stars and depth while sprinkling in some 4 stars.
BC always gets a couple of those 4 stars and because of its location does okay in recruiting.

Give Dino equal talent I think the guy is amazing. Addazio on the other hand is a meathead who will do it his way.

You're flat out wrong.

i mean that's pretty impressive. BC is cleaning up in the northeast corridor with guys like AJ Dillon. He was a prep school monster who i think was going to Michigan until he got hurt.

We are recruiting nationally and spoke to this in another thread but have seemed to retreat from the Boston area where we were very well received during Pasqualoni era. Those recruits will always be lesser ranked than the southern guys but it doesn't mean they suck.

The "low ceiling" has them predicted to be top 25, or top 20. An improvement of up to 48 spots above their recruitment ranking... That would only put us in the top 10.

I'm 100% convinced that "meathead" = running team. Every attribute, mentality, is symbiotic to a running team. We call em meathead when they are not good at it. I understand you are sick of it being poorly coached/executed. That's just a bad team.

Only 4 teams in the top 25, threw it more than they ran. 8 in the top 20 were ranked in the bottom 30 in pass attempts. Alabama #111, Georgia #123.

Adazzio is following the model that most successful teams follow. I have no problem, that we are one of the 1/3 of teams that pass more than run. Obviously, there are folks sick of seeing us lose that way.

You 100% nailed meathead. Limit the other teams chances at scoring by favoring your D and slowing play. You’re right that there’s nothing inherently bad about a defensive mindset. But you’ve then got to be perfect on O and maximize your chances. Less drives, less points, less chances to win.

So many old school NE guys love Addazzio and his style of play around here. It’s in the water. I’m just glad we’re not trying to out BC, BC.
You don’t have to have a perfect offense w/ a more traditional approach. You just need to be better than the other guys on a given day (just like any other system). Track meets give you more opportunities to win, but they also give you more opportunities to lose. It’s all relative. The only difference is that luck decides more rock fights than it does track meets, and luck doesn’t care about talent.

The "understanding math and maximizing chances to win" thing pretty much falls apart for equipo meathead unidad when you punt from the opponent's 40.
I’m not sure what you’re trying to say. If you’re trying to make some over-arching claim about when to punt, then A) I find that bizarre, and B) think it depends on circumstances.

But to clarify my point, you’re more likely to get all heads if you flip a count 4x vs. 50x. Small sample sizes (i.e. longer, and this fewer drives) favor the underdog, as they make extreme results (i.e. upsets) more likely. That’s very close to universally true, as it’s math, nothing more, and nothing less.

And failing to look at almost any substantial problem from multiple angles is a bad idea.

There is no perfect system, and there is no perfectly bad widely used system. More than anything, a system’s efficacy is a product of its circumstances.

We have zero evidence yet of that. Dino is a shiny toy with zero results so far. You are talking in absolutes that honestly i hope come true. If Dino goes 4-8 again this year and BC meatheads their way to 8-4 are you still gonna believe this? At some point the coach has to coach up the talent. Addazio has basically taken 7-6 talent and gotten them to 7-6. If he gets himself 8 or 9 win talent he will win 8 or 9 games based on prior results.

I need to see Dino do this in 2018. This is a big year for our program. We have become an excuse machine. Need to see the results in action this year. I think Dino is gonna make me a bigtime believer but i gotta see it this year in the result of a bowl.
I hope Babers wins, and I hope that he wins a lot at Syracuse. But there isn’t much evidence that Barbers > Addazio so far.

Still, I’d give Dino this year as a freeby. Next year, however, is sink or swim. It will be his team, with his players, with his training by then.

But I’m genuinely optimistic.

According to the twofour7even roster talent rankings, BC and SU have had nearly identical talent on their roster
since they began tracking roster talent in 2015. How are you determining talent? Serious question. No snark.

The talent disparity, which those rankings skew, is better seen in the Shafer recruits (like KJ Williams 4*) who never made it to campus or left prior to Dino’s arrival (Colton Moskal).

Too many of Shafer’s higher rated talent (probably due to McFlockit) never made it to the Hill.

I understand the wait and see approach with Dino but the biggest factor to contribute to BC having more talent is that Addazzio’s recruits qualified and developed during his 3 year head start to build his roster.

BC is a good team and Addazio has always been a good recruiter. He also had a better coaching staff than the one SU had from 2013-2015 to develop that talent.

The point I made is that meathead mentality is selectively strategic about playing the odds.

I guess I don’t follow.

Refuting a mathematical truth (flip coins yourself if you don’t believe me) w/ a statement that’s void of readily apparent context doesn’t exactly scream making a point in my eyes. Maybe I’m missing something.

14 NFL draft picks for BC.

Anybody who thinks we have had equal talent to BC just loves Shafer.
Shafer had one non-punter drafted and I am happy for Zaire. We haven’t had NFL draft talent.

Or, based on where they were projected leaving highschool, and where they ended up, one may say that BC has developed equal talent, into superior talent...great job Addazio!

You just went off the rails.

1. Clemson lost two games last year and one was to Alabama and the other one was to Dino Babers, lol. Addazzio doesn’t have a win of that caliber, nor does Shafer or Marone, Robinson, P. Shiny toy!

2. Addazzio has never taken a team to 8 wins as a HC. Dino did. EDIT: forgot about Temple. He hasn’t taken BC to 8.

3. BC hasn’t scheduled like us OOC. You could make the case that Dino would have taken us bowling with their schedule.

You’re right that this is a big year, but you cannot say he hasn’t shown you anything. Sheesh.

Last 4 years 14 NFL draft picks with a 24-27 record.
Great job Addaizo.

Give Dino talent I know he is doing better than that.
Dino inherited a team devoid of NFL draft pick talent.
His best offensive player year 1 he brought in as a grad transfer.
His system made Erv Philips and Steve Ishmael into all conference players.
The guy is increasing our talent.
Ravian Pierce is likely to become our first skill position draft pick since Delone Carter SEVEN years ago.
He is a Dino recruit.

Don't confuse coaching with talent. Adazzio is very good at teaching fundamentals. Some call it meathead, others call it learning how to play fundamentally sound football at a high level. That's the NFL's opinion.

Notice Marrone's bump? Shafer wasn't good. I'm confident Adazzio could have made something out of Shafers teams.. Talent is wasted without a good teacher. I believe what you are accurately pointing out, is a manifestation of that - not the incoming talent.

Going forward... Dino could struggle with draft picks, even if we routinely bowl. Receivers can put up big #'s, but they'll have to run great routes, and routinely outplay defenders that AREN'T lost in the tempo. That'll hold true for all offensive positions. It'll be viewed as trying to gain an advantage, by catching you off guard. Because that's what it is. You have to be able to beat them when they are fully prepared.

On the line, the spread has 2 Tackles without their hand in the dirt. This is a big NFL no, no. Meathead wins again. NFL considers, even top 3 rounds, projects, if they played like this, in college. Pro set, you put your hand in the dirt, and you beat someone. Again. The line will have to prove they can win in a slower tempo team, against a fully prepared defender, with their hand in the dirt, to succeed at the next level. Should be fun in college, though.

You’re right that this is a big year, but you cannot say he hasn’t shown you anything. Sheesh.

I don’t care about the Clemson win when we can’t win enough for bowl eligibility. It’s great for the brand but we didn’t do enough down the stretch. To be fair to Steve, he did beat USC OOC in his first year. Not Clemson but a big time win.

I’m not trying to make the case that BC is the new Clemson. I’m just trying to illustrate they are better than us right now and Addazio has coached up some of their talent at a higher clip than us. Not sure we go bowling last year w their schedule. Our depth as everyone has told me fell apart in November. We lost to CMU and played a very mediocre, at the time, LSU who was there to be beaten.

Not sure why everyone hates him. He actually respects Syracuse and would have coached us if the timing worked out. I’m a Boston guy and still root for BC to be competitive every game except the Syracuse one.

Thanks, Alsacs.

Oh, geez. "Hand in the Dirt" is straight out of the meathead manifesto.
