Hey if it was up to me

Figured that would be the majority of responses but not for the right reasons.

Paul Johnson, in a hotbed of recruiting, went to 9 bowl games in 11 years running that offense in the ACC. I would sign up for that kind of success for Syracuse right now.

prefer a system coach. Uncle Dougie did a good job prepping and clearly can coach on game days. But our best shot is a system coach that maximizes offense and plays per game. We just need some depth and better talent to actually run it.

In a year or constant surprises, Go proposing that if it was up to him he'd bring Marrone back... is not one of them.

It was completely tongue in cheek. That's not to say three former NFL head coaches wouldn't make a splash.

Hell, Patricia could bring Steve Gregory back.

This won't be popular but honestly my first call would be to Jeff Monken at Army. The option is boring - I get it but would certainly even the playing field with regards to recruiting and be a pain in the ass for the ACC week in and week out.
Army may be the toughest to recruit at. Makes sense they run the option. You can coach up the big uglies to be very good- more than any other position group, imo.

I don't mind the option, or Adazzio's system. We have more recruiting advantages than Army, and CAN get some talent, so not necessary, but the meathead in me sure likes a focus on the trenches.

Johnson beat Notre Dame with it, for the 1st time in 43 years, at NAVY - recruits ND wouldn't give the time of day.

I'm pretty stuck on the idea that since we're the only major team that plays in a Dome, and Domes provide an ideal environment for passing offense, that the best path for our program to differentiate itself and be its most competitive is to excel by passing.

And so I flatly reject proposals to be ground game based, especially to the extent where that's all we do. I don't care about Paul Johnson or whatever degree of success he had.

We have a single advantage in all of college football, that's entirely unique to us. And we constantly piss it away.

I'm not off the Dino train yet, but if I ever do get off, it's going to be because the passing game continues to fail.

I feel for Marrone in the sense that he has ascended to roles that I think ultimately are completely mismatched to what would make him happy.

I'd take him a heartbeat as an OC or OLine coach, and at Syracuse in those roles, he'd be exceptional. There's just no way you see him step back to that.

That’s the biggest thing to me is game day coaching. Dino has to be the worst we have had as far as adjustments and in game coaching. Seems like if they don’t strike early and often it almost always results in a loss. I love the guy tho but just hoping they get it together

I am troubled that since the ten win season we seem to come out really flat.

Like, it shouldn't be a surprise to start a game with a decent drive.

Rescue Joe Moorhead from Mississippi State - give him the chance to come back to the northeast at a similar salary and not be in Starkville, MS.

I agree. When I look at an option team - that has success with lesser recruits? I'm scratching my head. Its like we're trying to run before we've learned how to walk. :-/

Total agree with the " simplicity of the O ". Seems like 90% of the plays are the same 15 with different formations. Unfortunately, Dino or most head coaches will ever change their scheme. At least with Sean Lewis the play calling was so much better. He seemed to know where to call certain plays based on what the D has been playing after the first few series. What ever happened to the short 5-10 yard "pop" pass in the middle of the field? The only short passes are directly to the sideline for a gain of 1-2 yards. That play is fine if you have big WR that can block however, we know SU does not have that.

Such a good point, we miss SL immensely.

I'd rather lose the way we are than bring in mongan. Great guy and solid, but watching that offense would set fb back years.

Why as an oc given the last 2 years? Ultimately, this is his offense, he is still running the o, right?

Good line play often results in winning. I respect the guys that build great lines with lesser recruits, that's all. Addazio did, others running the option, etc... I respect that, that's all. I really don't care how we win after that.

I get it, OL play is the foundation. That's why it's hard to understand just how we got here. 5 years of recruiting and DB wasn't left a bad OL. I know it's hard to win, but not fielding a competitive team in the trenches is hard to fathom. Add in the skill positions and lack of qb competition, it's just a head scratcher. We should have a bit of excitement this week seeing a talented young qb start for the first time. I love culpepper but we know what he is and we don't have 1 or 2 youngins competing.

I think he's at Oregon now as OC.

New sheriff in town in Starkvegas.

Where have you been lol... He's the OC at oregon mike leach is the HC at miss st, I'd take moorhead, how about todd graham, DB more than likely gets next year, if graham has success at hawaii I'd take him, he's only making 760k at hawaii so might not be to expensive. Graham is a good recruiter, good coach we'd be solid make bowls, let him hire someone from the air raid to coordinate the offense.

Maybe Lewis was the guy who made the system run. He is getting it done at lowly Kent State as the head coach.

Cant help but to entertain that. I have thought it for a few years now. He was dynamic, the kids were electric playing for him, and he was a champ calling plays and motivating kids.

I’ve always liked the option because it fits the northeast.

For better or worse, we need an offensive system that fits the best players that we can recruit. I’m not sure the option is that offense, but I’m not sold that our current system is, either. I think our current system fits our facilities (Dome), but I don’t think we can out perform B12 schools with an offense designed to work in Texas with Texas high school talent.

The guy who can find the offense that fits our facilities and our recruiting constraints will end up being a Syracuse great.

I'm not following your post at all. What do you mean?
