Board consensus is that Spruill is going to be a star (agreed) and there is are fair amount of folks that are excited about Lynch (agreed) as well but Davis doesn't seem to get as much hype here.

After watching his youtube highlights last night a couple of things really jump out. 1) he has a nose for the ball 2) he closes fast on opposing players, faster than I had recalled 3) he likes to hit 4) he needs to get bigger but has the frame to handle it.

IMHO he could be one of the big playmakers this year for an improved defense. He'll be in his second year at the position and after an offseason in the weight room I think he could be primed for a breakout season. If he adds a few lbs and lowers his pads just a bit to tackle through the ball carrier more consistantly he could be a beast next year and beyond.

Anyone else have the same type of expectations for him?

I agree with you, as long as he added a few pounds in the offseason he is poised to have a great year. He has the speed and vision but really lacks when it comes to power.

Sky's the limit. Best in the world as long as we play no zone and the refs and league don't cheat him. Oops, wrong board.

Isn't Davis the guy who was switched to FB? Or was that just speculation earlier in the offseason?

Different Davis. I believe you are thinking of Myles, not Dyshawn.

Yes, I agree with you.

I think it was pretty clear last year that DD's lack of experience hurt a lot.

So, with a year under his belt and with some added bulk he should be a much more effective player this fall.

I hope so. His freshman year I was very impressed. Not so much last year. Was out of position a lot it seemed.

I thought D. Davis was a frosh last year.

Are you referring to Spruill?

Huh? Last year was Davis's freshman year.

Did you mean Spruill? Somewhat understandable, considering he (1) played as a true frosh and didn't redshirt, and (2) was playing a new position in year 2.

kid has balls, likes to hit hard. With another 20 pounds of muscle he'll give local hospitals' trauma wards more business

Yea. Was thinking Spruill when I realized people were talking Davis. Spruill had much more responsibility last year though so maybe he has learned the middle more. As to Davis, aggressive but he too was out I'd position a lot.

If he doesn't screw himself by making some dumb decisions in his life the sky is the limit for avis. He has everything talent wise going for him. Now he just needs to put all together on the field. I predict AA status andAllBE and ACC when we get there. Then its on to draft day.

Might be the reason Dan is no longer coaching the position?

He was out of position a lot but I have pretty high hopes for him. When you consider he was, at least as far as most here thought, recruited as a wide out and then started at LB from Day 1 while playing with a frame that desperately needed weight, I though he acquitted himself extremely well. A classic example of why we need to be able to redshirt recruits like him.

What's he going to weigh in at this year, these guys are fast and athletic, but at 216 pounds, not sure they can be "great" every down LB's

Agree 100%.

We're getting to that point with a lot of positional units.

The sky is the limit. After a year of experience I believe he can only excel. He obviously has the athletic ability and determination. I was amazed by his hit in the Rutgers game. I know it was only one play but that is not something you can teach. I also hope he has put on some weight through S&C becuse he could turn out to be a great player that was transitioned to a different position for which he was originally recruited. I see nothing but good things from this young man in the future.

If he starts using his arms to tackle players instead of his shoulders to knock them over, he will be much improved.

Red-shirting should benefit both the athlete and the program. If the kid can help the team,he should play imediately. He is enjoying the benefit of a free ride in a very expensive private university. If he needs development with S&C sit him out and get him ready with and coaching.:p

arm tackling or wrapping up you mean...big difference here

He's not bad for a safety masquerading as a linebacker. Personally, I think he is being played out of position, but he wouldnt have bumped the Thomas', and I am not sure he is fast enough to play fs.

No question -- if the kid is ready, put him in there. I just feel like the vast majority of these kids benefit from a year to adjust. Whether it's socially, academically, physically or in terms of technique, I would say the percentages of kids truly ready to compete and get a decent amount of time on a pretty decent BCS team is pretty small.

Lynch-Spruill-Davis. IMO this should be our LB corp for the next two years. Crazy athletic and physical. Undersized, but extremely fast and all have a nose for the football. Next year, I think they could be better than the 2010 LBs.
